I think the whole concept of "Coins Invested - Coins Mined = ROI or Loss" that the other posters were trying to allude to, went over the OP's head. Anytime you mention the fiat price or dollar value of Bitcoin, either investing, trading, or mining, you're doing it all wrong. Fact of the matter is, for the $10k investment a couple months ago you could've had 17 Bitcoins already. Using http://retrocalc.net/ and let's say conservatively 5TH/s(converting the Scrypt to equivalent power) shows you'd probably mined 9-10 BTC or so not figuring in variance. Break even shows never based on https://bitcoinwisdom.com/bitcoin/calculator. Basically, for someone that has 20 years + experience in the risk/trading field, it doesn't look like you did the necessary legwork calculating the risks with Bitcoin mining. Doesn't look like you factored in the high difficulty we're now, considered variance, use the right Bitcoin calculators, possibly invested in the wrong inefficient asics etc. Only hope to recoup some of your losses, is to sell your equipment on eBay or here in the Hardware / Computer Hardware subforum for BTC's. Good luck, either way. OK buddy, you keep doing it your way and we do it ours (as we trade another 1000+ futures contracts today...). Some miners think they have it figured all out... good luck with that too. PS And you really think that RetroCalc tell you what one 'actually' makes/made...hahaha. You just disqualified yourself totally. That's like guys who approach us on a daily basis with their trading systems which have only been paper traded, not with an actual account. We do not even look at those. Must've touched a nerve with you, if you're getting so defensive. Guess the truth hurts sometimes. ... Absofrigginlutely worst time to start mining.
Basically if Bitcoin's fiat price is low, just buy the coins.
If Bitcoin's fiat price is high in value($700-$800 let's say), then mine.
Pretty simple.

If you're a home miner, don't buy anything until mid to late Fall or early Winter. That way the electrical and cooling costs that's eating away at any chance at ROI during the warm months will be replaced with heating from the miners. So, not only does it heat up your house during the cold months you get BTC's out of it!  |

Learned that my wife is pregnant yesterday. This will be our first child. So how do I incorporate bitcoin into the process? I have bitcoins to spend.
Anyone got any clever ideas? This has potential.
 Congrats man! My wife too, has a bun in the oven, and is our first child also.  As for clever ideas, I like the idea of a physical Bitcoin with private key to commemorate your firstborn. He/she can exercise or use it when they're much older. Maybe put 1BTC on it. Good luck to us both!  |

Somehow copying from your quote failed to show proper formatting, so I went and copy/pasted from Brewins post a page back and that seemed to work. Not sure why yours would be different, but oh well. I got a full refund from minersource about a week ago. No problems at all.
I have had nothing problems from minersource. I have requested a refund for my two X1's (Order 701) but was refused. I also asked what order number they have delivered to and they won't tell me. When did you request and receive your refund? It's a fucking circle jerk all together. Black Arrow can't deliver the promised product and Minersource.net is covering for them as the approved vendor. If you have something small like 2 X1's just get MS store credit, buy new miners or sell them on eBay or here in the Computer/Goods sub-forum for BTC. Ask for Dan Murtha. He's the co-owner of Minersource and is usually very responsive. Thomas Salvatore also answers support emails as well. |

Updated my sig to also reflect the changes, and the upcoming PD3. Can't wait until I make senior member, then I'll be raking in Sig campaign money. You should become a senior member before payday, which means you'll get paid 0.001 for all your posts of this month! Lucky you. I think I have to wait 2 activity jumps before Senior, since Senior member is 240 I believe. I'm currently at 224, so 1 jump is 238, so I have another jump to wait until Senior, so not this pay period, but next. You must read again the answers made to you. You need to wait only one jump. Every 14 days, you win 14 activity points. What date is the next jump again? I lost track of when the activity update period is. I know Senior level is 240 activity, so I'm more than 1 jump away from attaining that. The 19th of august, your activity will be 250 and you will be senior. Full Stop. So the 19th of August is the next jump from today? But won't it increase only 14 to 238, not 250 from now? Excuse the dumb questions, just trying to understand. Edit: I see my activity finally kicked in. It was 224, now just updated to 238 a couple minutes ago. |
