Though Ireland lost the Test match against Bangladesh, they gained a good reputation. Because many of the Irish team player made their Test debut in that match. But they could not succeed against Sri Lanka. It is not their failure. Because they don't have the experience needed to play against a good team. But there is no doubt that they will improve in Test cricket after a certain period of time. Sri Lanka is on the verge of a good win against Ireland after their tour of New Zealand.

Their performance against Bangladesh was OK, because in the second innings some of their younger players (especially Lorcan Tucker and Harry Tector) made good contributions with the bat. And also, Andy McBrine made a valuable 72 down the order. But against Sri Lanka, there were hardly any positives. The Lankans amassed a massive score in their first innings, and the Irish bowling was mediocre. And by the end of second day's play, Ireland is at 117/7, trailing the Lankans by a massive 474 runs. They are going to lose this match by an innings and 300+ runs.

Tried to watch the Sri Lanka vs Ireland match in SONY LIV. But found it too boring. Bowlers are hardly getting any assistance from the pitch and the Irish bowlers also don't have any sting. So far only one wicket has fallen and Sri Lanka looks set for a big score in the range of 500-600 runs by the end of second day's play. The second wicket partnership between Dimuth Karunaratne and Kusal Mendis is now worth 89 runs. The only wicket to fall so far (Nishan Madushka) went to medium pacer Curtis Campher.
3983  Economy / Economics / Re: Is there a place in the world you could live like a king via sig campaigns? on: April 16, 2023, 07:43:41 AM
How much can you earn from the sig campaigns per month? As per my rough estimates, the maximum you can earn is around $400 to $600. Forget about living like a "King", you can't even have a decent standard of living with this much money. Inflation is in double digits and you need at least $2,000 per month after taxes to have a comfortable lifestyle. And I am talking about living comfortably, and not about living like a "King". On the other hand, if you are OK with a very basic hand-to-mouth existence, the I guess $400-600 per month should be enough.

Lol. I don't know why so many people hate Rahul so much, but I did feel glad to see Punjab win thanks to Sharukh Khan and Raza. They struggled to chase such a small target which goes to show how bad their batting department is.

Lucknow's luck ran out in this match even though Rahul played really well. The battle for the playoffs is heating up.

When Harpreet Brar got out, Punjab Kings still needed 7 runs from 7 balls, with just 2 wickets remaining. Fortunately for them, Kagiso Rabada survived the last ball of the 19th over and then Shahrukh Khan scored the necessary runs in the next over, which was bowled by Ravi Bishnoi. BTW, the Kings need to rethink about their top order. Prabhsimran Singh failed once again, while Atharva Taide got out for a duck. It maybe a good idea to promote Matthew Short to open the batting along with Shikhar Dhawan (if he is free from injury).

That advertising is to his detriment, though. It's why he lost the 2020 election despite his opponent campaigning from his basement.

The core Biden campaign strategy was to let Trump enjoy his media fame because it would cost him with suburban white women voters. There's a voting shift in the U.S., seemingly, where the "wine moms" can't help but vote democrat which is giving them the margin of victory in contested races.

Trump will win the Republican primary and will probably do so in a landslide. Ron DeSantis would perform better in a general election and for that reason, the Biden administration would much rather have Trump to face.

Even against someone as unlikeable as Hillary Clinton, Trump won by <100k votes scattered among some swing states. He doesn't perform well in the general even though Trump himself thinks he's good at marketing.

A very important reason why Trump lost the 2020 POTUS election was the SCOTUS ruling on abortions. It energized the suburban educated women (including white women) and they voted for Biden in droves. And the ideological situation hasn't changed much since then. GOP has not managed to win back this section of the voters and it will never happen if Trump remains as the face of the Republican party. Ron DeSantis is a moderate face who is capable of doing this, but at this point he simply doesn't have enough support from within the GOP.

Yes we can consider Afghanistan as a poor country. But this is a good thing that in this situation (means you know the condition of Afghanistan and its economic crisis) this country team is playing. This is a good thing. And this is good thing and we are looking that this team is growing slowly but growing. And hope it will grow more.

The case with Afghanistan is a bit tricky. After the Taliban took over administration, the ICC refused to release any payments to the Afghanistan Cricket Board. They are receiving some minor funding from the Asian Cricket Council, but apart from that the ACB has been running low on money for some time now. ECB and CA are adamant that the funding should be released only after ACB could guarantee women's participation in cricket. The future looks uncertain for now, and most of the national team players have moved out to countries such as the United Arab Emirates.

Indonesia was removed by FIFA as the host of the U20 World Cup due to the rejection of several government figures who did not want Israel to come to Indonesia to participate in the U20 World Cup event and had become quite a heated debate because this issue, in terms of the U20 World Cup, was football sports event and it should not be associated with the political problems that are currently happening between Indonesia, Palestine and Israel.
I actually have an opinion that with this mistake that was made by Indonesia until FIFA decided to revoke Indonesia's name it would have a big loss impact on Indonesia.
It's funny to see a government that prioritizes politics but forgets the achievements of their own nation's sons.

A few months back, more than a hundred people died during a stampede in Kanjuruhan Stadium in East Java (during a match between Arema Football Club and Persatuan Sepakbola Surabaya). An enquiry by FIFA found that Football Association of Indonesia was partly to be blamed, as they failed in crowd control measures. Indonesia was removed as the hosts for U-20 world cup a few months later. But there is no doubt that government intervention in sports bodies is a big issue all over Asia. Even here in India, there have been several controversies as a result of this.

Would you guys mind sharing you vision on the following:
-Do you personally take part in lotteries by online casinos?
-Do you track the progress and results of such campaigns?
-If so, are there any changes you would offer to make lotteries more exciting?
~~~~
Here in India, private lotteries are banned and only those run by the central and state governments are allowed. And personally I don't take part in these lotteries (although I have tried my luck a few times in the past), because only a small fraction of the total revenues (~10% or even lower) is given out in the form of prize money. And also, all lottery winnings in India are subjected to 39% income tax, and there is an additional 10% cut known as "agent's commission". There is no logic in wasting your hard earned money in such games.
Yes, I'm aware of the recent announcement.
BCCI have confirmed that no Indian player currently playing in the national team will be allowed to participate in any other cricket league apart from the Indian Premier League. BCCI wants to maintain the IPL supremacy, also, Indian players are bound to follow the contract they have signed with the IPL. If a player wishes to play in another league, for instance, in Saudi Arabia, they would have to retire from both the Indian team and the IPL. So, there's no point they want to promote their competitor.
Without the Indian players, I am not sure how this league will take off. From what we have seen form the recent ICC media rights auctions, 90% of the cricket revenues originate from India. If Indian players are not there, then the interest, and thereby revenue potential from India will be on the lower side. And they have very high ambitions. They want to overtake the IPL and become the "richest" cricket league in the world. In the end they may become the "richest" league, but by no means they will be able to become the most "popular" league in the world.
I quite enjoyed Qatar 2022, I think it was an entertaining world cup, and pretty much all the teams, except Qatar, played really well.
I guess what makes it exceptional is that many people had lower expectations because of all the controversies, but it seems that it didn't matter too much.
Well.. for those who watched the matches live on TV, Qatar 2022 was a spectacular experience. But for those fans who actually traveled to Qatar, it was not a very nice episode. Certain sections, especially unmarried couples and LGBT people faced a lot of discrimination. And all the fans had to spend extra money out of their pocket, as services were priced at a premium. And the less talked about the migrant workers who built those stadiums, that better. They never received any recognition for their efforts, and throughout the tournament the Qataris refused to mention about them even once.
3991  Economy / Economics / Re: Elon Musk and the fall of Twitter on: April 16, 2023, 04:23:45 AM
I don't know why there is so much hype about Twitter failing. From what I can see, Twitter looks as good as it was before the takeover. Elon reportedly fired close to 90% of the former employees, but as of now it looks as if the platform works without any issues. I haven't noticed any significant downtime or data breaches despite the layoffs. And this means that most of these employees were not being productive earlier and Twitter was overstaffed. One thing that may trouble Elon is the boycotting campaign from some of the advertisers. I am sure that he will get around it.
Anyone has heard about the proposal from Saudi Arabian Cricket Federation to establish the "richest T20 league in the world"?
https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2023/apr/14/saudi-arabia-set-to-launch-lucrative-twenty20-tournament-reports-say-cricket
The BCCI has already issued a statement clarifying that Indian cricketers will not be allowed to participate. Chairman of the Saudi Arabian Cricket Federation, Prince Saud bin Mishal al-Saud recently announced that they want to make Saudi Arabia a global destination for cricket. It is a part of the push from Saudi Arabia to make the country a hotspot for international sport. They are already bidding to host the 2030 FIFA World Cup, and at this point they want their fair share with cricket as well. The ICC is already having a partnership with Saudi Aramco, which was signed last year.
As usual DC made a mess of yesterday's match. Their batting is in shambles, niether the captain nor the team management has a clue as to what needs to be done. RCB bowlers were very effective and their fielding was spot on. I was expecting a close game as the target was not that big. I guess DC men need a word of advice from DC women team on how to play in a highly competitive tournament.
Strange that you are blaming the captain. Warner did what he could do. If the batsmen are not scoring any runs, then what he can do about it? As such, I didn't found any fault with his tactics. Only he is scoring runs for the Delhi Capitals, and while bowling they are heavily dependent on Anrich Nortje. Mustafizur Rahman's poor form has been a dampener. One bright spot is that in yesterday's match Kuldeep Yadav and Mitchell Marsh had decent spells. But the main issue remains. As of now, there is no support for Nortje from any of the other pace bowlers.
3994  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Indian Premier League #IPL on: April 16, 2023, 02:55:07 AM
I watched the first innings completely, seeing the batting performance of RCB, it was clearly visible that DC will win the match. Moreover the stadium was Chinaswami, which is a batting pitch and have smaller boundaries. So chasing 180 or less would have been like eating a pie. This was my estimations till the second innings started. We have to admit that in this match, DC’s batters completely failed. They have some great players indeed, but currently if we leave Warner then all are out of form. I am still thinking why they are backing Shaw so much? Let’s see when Delhi will get their first victory.
LOL.. they purchased Prithvi Shaw for a huge price of ₹80,000,000 ($975,000) during the auctions. He was the third most expensive buy for them, after Rishabh Pant and Axar Patel. So it explains the hesitance form the management to drop him. And also, other batsmen are also not scoring any runs, and it's just not Shaw. Warner has scored 228 runs so far, while Axar has 129 to his name. Apart from these two, none of the other batsmen are in to three digits. At third position they have Manish Pandey at 76, and then others haven't even made 50.
Latest opinion polls just confirm the trend. Trump is having the advantage, both for the Republican nomination, and for the 2024 POTUS election. The poll from Economist/YouGov puts him ahead of Biden by 1% (44% vs 43%). Now this may look like a narrow lead, but remember that Trump actually trailed popular vote by 3% in the 2016 POTUS election which he won. So a 1% lead would translate to a landslide win at the electoral college. And Ron DeSants continues to lose support. None of the polls in any of the states have him ahead (or even close to) of Donald Trump.
Bit confusing reply but it sums up with the bold part.
Please don't get offended but it's one of the stupid takes IMO, in case ICC gets the authority on bilateral cricket.
Every cricketing board is free to choose 6 bilateral series, in a hypothetical scenario let this idea come alive and at the same time let's see if BCCI hands out favor to anyone which they do regularly.
In covid times BCCI literally paid CA's salary just because they didn't cancel the BGT trophy and CA got a breather, same with the SA etc.
If this idea becomes reality then I would be very disappointed but i won't mind if BCCI stops playing all lucrative/competitive series and instead opts for Zim/Afg/Ire and other associate nations, just to make a dent in this idea. If ICC is willing to burn it down then let them do it.
I am not even thinking about a scenario where the ICC dictates terms and conditions on bilateral series. I was talking about a possibility where they get a small share of revenue from these series (maybe 5% or 10%). I don't have a problem with that, as most of that money will end up with BCCI, as they stand to gain 33% to 40% of all the ICC revenues. But any suggestion that ICC would decide whom India would play against is outright ridiculous. That will never happen. But then, the BCCI are no saints. They have also organized useless bilaterals in the past, against teams such as Zimbabwe and West Indies.
3997  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽ UEFA Euro 2024 in Germany ⚽ - Qualifiers on: April 16, 2023, 02:25:24 AM
even though iceland won 7-0 over liechtenstein but they also lost 3-0 to bosnia, so far i see iceland's performance is quite stable in the euro preliminary round this time
in group J, portugal and slovakia are tough opponents, so iceland's chances of qualifying are also very small, let's see what the iceland squad can do next
I would love to see Iceland in Euro 2024. But it needs to be seen whether they are able to qualify. They have 3 points from 2 matches and they haven't yet played against the two strongest teams (Portugal and Slovakia). The qualifier has just started and there is plenty of time to make up for their initial loss against Bosnia and Herzegovina. But as things stand, in order to qualify they need an upset win (or at least a draw) against Portugal. Looks very difficult for me. Anyway, their next match is scheduled on 17th June, and it will be against Slovakia.
Afghanistan didn't had much of opportunity or support. The country players progressed well amidst the financial and hard time on their country. Atleast the small nations were able to play within their country. For Afghanistan they were depending the neighbouring countries for their matches. This is how they slowly grew up, and they had got consideration at times which isn't deniable.
Cricket in Afghanistan grew during the late 1990s and early 2000s. Back then, Jagmohan Dalmiya was the President of International Cricket Council, and he was a big supporter of cricket in associate nations. And then they received good support from both the BCCI and PCB (for reasons other than cricket). But things changed once Dalmiya was replaced by the pig-4 mafia. Sharad Pawar - N Srinivasan gang took over, and this was when cricket in associate nations started to die off. Some of the teams (like Kenya) got completely destroyed, while others like Nepal and Malaysia were severely weakened.
It was another splendid performance from the Pakistan team. Many of the players are fresh from the Pakistan Super League and the impact was quite visible in their performances. Yesterday the partnership between Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan added close to 100 runs on board for Pakistan, and then Iftikhar Ahmed performed some fireworks towards the end. The inexperienced Kiwi bowlers (Henry Shipley, Ben Lister, Rachin Ravindra and Cole McConchie) struggled against the Pakistani batsmen. And apart from Mark Chapman, none of the other New Zealand players contributed with the bat.
We must accept the fact that they did really well. People are always criticising them for no reason
I don't understand this logic. Leave all the controversies related to alcohol and LGBT behind. What makes you think that Qatar 2022 was better than Russia 2018 or Brazil 2014? Personally I believe that the 2014 and 2018 editions were organized in a much better way compared to the one in 2022. And then the horror behind staging the world cup in Qatar. They splashed close to $300 billion in an effort to showcase their wealth, at a time when the children of the 6,000 plus dead laborers were going empty stomach in Nepal and Bangladesh.
