41  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: How did you make the jump to the next level? on: March 16, 2018, 09:50:27 PM
I was working while mining - and reinvested every penny I could spare after bills into more mining gear.
The job I worked was seasonal - I'd have good income from about the end of January to late June - and 2 years ago I realized that if I just saved the last couple months worth of work income it would give me enough to move to the "land of low cost electric" and that my mining income was enough to live on with some left over for more expansion, while DROPPING my overall cost or living some.

Technically though, I didn't have "20 miners" at the time, more like 12 - but I also don't live fancy which keeps my cost of living down.

"20" is a relative number. Not finite or exact.

Appreciate the feedback.

42  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / How did you make the jump to the next level? on: March 16, 2018, 03:04:02 AM
How did you progress your mining to a sizable level? 20+ miners

Going from one to two to three miners at home is a fairly simple process. The next step seems to be the hardest part though. Balancing overhead of rent, electric, isp, and misc costs at a level that allows you to continue growth (amount of miners) seems quite difficult.

Talked about this at length today with someone in a similar space. We’re not both idiots, so how did you guys do it?

At the moment quite maths leads me to believe you must possess somewhere around 10+ miners to make it worth it to not host somewhere else. That’s not an insignicant investment!

Any tips on making the next leap would be masssively appreciated.

Cheers.

They didn't do it for free.

Dragonmint stole it. That is why they were so quiet.

It appears that the DM is very much real; though no one knows quality levels at this point. It also should be said that it is not really much better than the S9, consuming roughly 10% more power. There are quite a few questions that are still unknown. If asciboost software becomes readily available en-masse, then the DM is just another drop in the bucket.

If I were a betting man, I'd bet on AB becoming readily available for S9's at some point.

I've been wondering this for quite a while. Was there or is there a connection between CKPOOL and Kano pool.  Was Kano involved in both at one time? Just curious?
I, for one, would love to hear the back-story...

Same, when and why did the bromance go bad?!

Figured that was it. I don't know why they don't recognize " . "! Oh well, a simple reset isn't so bad.

Cheers.

If anyone can explain to me how to set up worker monitoring I'd very much appreciate it. Currently all miners are set on one worker. Could be sleep deprivation, but i cannot seem to figure out how to set this up. Cheers.

Have you named your miners correctly? userID: userName.workerName

https://slushpool.com/help/get-started/getting_started

Currently have them: username.anitminer.1 and username.antminer.2

I believe the issue is that they don’t recognize the “ . “

Both are recognizing as one and I cannot seem to separate them

Someone gets it. Something is changing in the next few weeks/month at bitmain. No one unloads stock like this for no reason; or better yet to reward their customers. ha!

stop spamming with the coupons.

NO ONE WANTS THEM.

They're clearly dumping s9 stock for a reason people...

If anyone can point me in the right direction for hosting facilities that handle s9's please let me know. So far it's been like throwing a dart at a map for figuring out who does what at x pricing.

Not interesting in hosting privately; looking for large professional(secure and accountable) facilities that are up for s9 hosting as well.

If this is the wrong place to ask, I apologize. Thanks

I personally think this was an advertising method and if you look at the thread  it has lots of info and post and interest.

What in the what? No, just no.

In no sense of the matter does it make any sense to be unreachable, and provide zero information, zero product for review, zero viable photos/video for the public. It is just careless and foolish to be so shit at marketing, no matter the product.

The Chinese aren't "innovative" in any fashion, they just steal from everyone else since intellectual property doesn't exist there.

Rifleman seems to have noobs squarely in his sights. All he does on here all day is troll the forums and bash down potential new miners. Maybe he doesn't want to share the pie?

It was directed to rifleman who seems adamant that this isn’t the right pool for me and I should mine elsewhere...that tone towards potential miners is certainly detrimental to the growth of this pool.

I understand what you are saying and it may be true for some and may be not, but you don't really know that because you haven't been able to measure it. Would it be possible for you to just realize that is his personality and you know....brush it off?

I'm a noob and he seems harmless to me. I'm also a grown man.

Also, as new miners join the forums, they ask the same questions over and over. I realized my questions were not new as well. There are some questions that even veteran miners may not understand fully but have just been going with the flow of things, in which case it's good to bring them up.

The same ones over and over and the arguing that comes with it is what gets frustrating, so it's easy to be short and grumpy and point people to where they can find the answers.

However, what is increasingly annoying are those who DON'T mine here and continue their attempts to stear miners away from the pool (*cough cough* DPoS2).

Ive said it before and I'll say it again; THERE IS A REASON QUESTIONS ARE REPEATED.

It's because when you're asking people to give up an entire diff adjustment without a full reward(if a block is mined) then you better have clear instuctions on how shit works. The reason this thread is so "active" isn't because the community is that awesome, it's because new miners are told kanos pool rocks, but the website is near impossible to understand from a noob perspective. Combine that with people wanting to pay bills and you have a recipe for disaster. It is quite an easily remedied issue as well.

Add a ramp line to graph, make payout terms in plain speak, not math-nerd jargon, make the site nicer to look at. It should take a couple hours at most.

Cue rifleman saying mine at antpoo. Eat a dick man, youre so fucking rude.

You guys come across as major assholes sometimes...

Everyones in this to make money. Stop being mean to new people. Stop circle-jerking each other and maybe you'd get some new people. This is the exact opposite of what I thought this pool was about; I thought it was active because people helped one another, instead its new miners getting shit on by those that have been here a bit.

Block   Block UTC   Miner Reward   N Diff   N Range   Pool N Avg   Your %   Your N Diff   Your N Avg   Your BTC
508425   9/Feb 20:11   12.44363511   14.378T   366hr 33m 46s   46.80PHs   0.03%   4.242G   13.80THs   0.00367090

According to this, my s9 is fully ramped up right?

I find the reward small for such time... used to make 0.0021xxx BTC on slush daily before I left for kano 16 days ago

Or i may be completely wrong? Huh

I hope we crack like 10 in a row in the next days  Roll Eyes

how many blocks were in that day at BTC?  You can't look at payout vs. payout, you have to look at block payout vs block payout.  And take the ugly with the good.

e.g. I just looked at all my slush blocks and at the same hashrate, I was easily 20% better here, and that was only at 89% ramp.

assuming over time, we'll average too 100% difficulty, to compare a single block at 500%, vs multiple blocks in a payout just isn't fair.

You actually have to look at time period, and not block to block. If kanos pool finds one block a month, and pool-x finds 100, which is more porfitable over the time period is all that matters. Huge variance is a tough pill to swallow when you're only cracking ~5 a month

59  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: KryptMiner - 20th/s @ 800w (a new magical miner / scam?) on: February 06, 2018, 12:03:03 PM
Technically they refunded you, therefore NOT a scam.

Whether its real? Well, thats a different question, but a scam it is not.
60  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: I'm a little surprised the Network Hash Rate isn't Lower on: February 06, 2018, 11:59:30 AM
There are a handful of theories floating around that the diff adj is being "attacked" ie: forced to keep rising to price out a lot of people from mining. Some of these theories have a little credibility, probably worth poking around some.
