41  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][NET] - The Browser Based Blockchain - Main net December - Liqui on: August 15, 2017, 01:41:29 PM
So, it is a miner in a browser?   not the browser in the blockchain like FAI?

It is a Browser based Blockchain and an entire Browser based Ecosystem of applications. Browser mining is just an small part of it.

It is a Blockchain designed to run natively in a Browser

So should I just stop mining these coins since I won't be able to do anything with them when the mainnet launches?

If you want to. Is meant for testing  Smiley

Very interesting indeed. Watching this

What will be this project's biggest challenge? Security, efficiency, or...?

Our biggest challenge is to hide the complexity of Cryptocurrencies achieving simple and easy to use applications for every day transactions that anyone can use regardless of their technical knowledge. This of course includes security, UI/UX design, instant transactions, security, etc.

Dash already has all that...how will you guys compete with Dash, I just feel like they are way ahead of the game compared to all other coins. If in fact NET accomplishes these features, what will set it apart from Dash?

Nimiq's design is entirely focused in mass adoption, every feature of our Blockchain and Ecosystem seeks to hide the complexity of Cryptocurrencies to the everyday user. Nimiq aims to do with the whole Cryptocurrency space what GoogleDocs is doing to Microsoft Office and other Office Suites. Nimiq is disruptive, we think out of the box so it is difficult to compare us with any existing project

Our approach is quite different from Dash, we aim for simplicity and mass adoption by using the following features:

- Nimiq is written in Javscript which enables it to be fully Browser based. You can run a full node in your Browser.
- You don't need to install any software or application to start using Nimiq. Just visit a Webpage
- All transactions in the Nimiq Network are truly instant and low-fee. Not just using Masternodes (which arguably brings centralization to a decentralized network). We use an approach based in Lightning Network to achieve this features.
- Nimiq's Blockchain is the smallest more compact (which makes it more secure) Blockchain, this enables browsers to download sync information and achieve true consensus in seconds.
- Nimiq Blockchain is the easiest Cryptocurrency to develop with. Proof of that  are the community applications already built using Nimiq. Like: Nimiq Chrome Extension, Nimiq Faucet, Nimiq Blockchain Explorer, among others. Its as easy as this.

Just started testnet mining this is huge..
Can i run on different browser in single PC?

Yes you can. Each browser will have a different wallet though. You can use the same wallets in several devices by exporting your private key and then importing it in other devices. Check our FAQ for more information.

I look forward to mine that coin! I'll be mining some NET, but they are not worth anything! But expectation for this project is the best! When will the true mining begin? Or will the testing phases end?

We are aiming for December.

Just to be clear, you can buy NET tokens right now and convert them later to the official Nimiq coin. I bought a few last week, I believe in this one. Like to have many more

That's exactly right, thank you for your support  Smiley
So when exactly will we be able to convert it and why you created the 2 coins>

You will be able to convert it before the Mainnet release (which we plan to launch in December). We will announce when we release the tool to do so. Right now our focus is in adding new features to the Nimiq Blockchain.

We created NET as an ERC20 token to raise funds to help us deliver the killer product we envision while selling the Total Circulating Supply of NIM of Nimiq Blockchain's Launch. After Launch Total Circulating Supply will increase due to mining rewards (similar to Bitcoin)

Just to be clear. Right now you can mine BetaNIM from our Betanet but these are for testing purposes only. The first NIM will come from the NET Tokens sold in the Token Sale. When we launch the final version of our Blockchain you will be able to mine real NIM and not BetaNIM. We plan to launch the Mainnet   December 2017.

When NIM gets launched on December, what will happen to NET? which is currently trading at exchanges

Will it get auto convert like ANS ---> NEO

It can't get auto converted. NET Token is an ERC-20 Token which means it exists in the Ethereum Blockchain. NIM exists in the Nimiq Blockchain (which we are still developing, you can try the Beta version but the NIM are for testing purposes only). So in order to redeem NIM using NET, NET holders will use a web tool to receive a private key for a wallet in Nimiq Blockchain. This wallet will be hardcoded in the Genesis Block of the Nimiq Blockchain with the according NIM Balance (10 NET = 1 NIM)

Can someone tell me what this project does uniquely that other coins dont already do? Are the developers behind this project this best to work on this project?

Is the only [Suspicious link removed]pletely designed Browser-based to achieve real simplicity in Blockchain Technology. Our Browser-based approach aims to lower barriers of entry for users, developers and merchants.

Users: Browser-based means that it runs completely in your Browser without any installation required (check Betanet). The first time you open a Nimiq Wallet with your browser, it will create and store a wallet securely in your Browser. Yyou can export/import your keys. The only way of erasing them is by removing the offline data of your Browser. It also make possible features like Cashlinks: Transfer Nimiq within a simple URL that you can send in WhatsApp, Telegram, SMS, etc. The users who opens the link will be redirected to his very Browser Wallet and NIM will be added to his Balance.

Developers: The code for the Nimiq Blockchain is public and completely written in Javascript. This way most developers are empowered to build applications using Nimiq. Nimiq will validate the security of community applications but we encourage community memmbers to contribute. Some examples of community applications: Nimiq Faucet, Nimiq Block Explorer, Nimiq Chrome Extension.

Merchants: We plan to create an entire Ecosystem of applications that will make it easy for any Merchant to accept Nimiq. One of the core applications of the Nimiq Ecosystem is the Peer-To-Peer Exchange which aims to serve as a frictionless platform to easily get in and out of Nimiq. Check our Blog for more.

How secure is Nimiq since it runs on a browser? Online wallets are already known for being un-secure so how will handle security?

Very secure. There is no comparison whatsoever between an online wallet and Nimiq's Browser Wallet. An online wallet like MyEtherWallet lets you connect to an Ethereum node through their webpage. With Browser Wallet you are running a Nimiq Node in your Browser so you are not connecting to any third-party application to join the network, you are joining the network right in from your Browser:).

super super super pumped on this project. great idea. would love to have gotten in on ICO

You dodged a bullet with this ICO , no one is happy right now who participated in the initial ICO ( myself included) .

The price of net/nim is more than three times less than the ICO price and it could go even lower .

they made over 15 million dollars and net is still only on the shity liqui exchange after 4 weeks.

I wouldn't say no one is happy. Maybe you're biased because you were expecting to sell quickly at a higher price. If you check our Telegram and Slack groups you'll see how most of the community believe in the team and our vision so most of them are actually using this opportunity to get more NET at a cheaper price.

There are also a lot of FUD spreaders that want to drive the price further down to buy and hodl even more NET... maybe you're one of them   Shocked

thanks for accusing me of being a " FUD spreader " , apparently you canīt tell the truth here without being labeled  Roll Eyes

in order for you and your friends to get more cheap tokens someone has to sell at a loss ,all the initial ico investors canīt get even 30% of their money back,

enjoy your cheap net , I know it was stupid from me to buy it at the ico .

Didn't mean to accuse you. I was just trying to make a joke  Smiley. Sorry if it felt like an attack it was not my intention.

I don't think it's stupid to be an early contributor to the project. Thanks to you the project can be developed and I think it has great potential. Yes, the current price is lower than the price during the Token Sale, but it is not true that everybody is unhappy.

How do you know about the price? Is it on exchanges already? If not, how do you know it's value has been decreased. Really interested.

You can check the price here. Right now NET is being traded in Liqui and Etherdelta.

Notice that NET (Nimiq Exchange Token) are interim tokens that you'll be able to change for NIM in the Nimiq Blockchain once it's ready. Before we launch the Mainnet, NET holders will be provided with a web tool to create a wallet in the Nimiq Blockchain and redeem NIM using NET. The first NIM will be then hardcoded in the Genesis Block.

We plan to launch the Mainnet in December. All NIM in the Blockchain come from NET sold in the Token Sale. After launch, the supply will increase using mining rewards similar to Bitcoin.

i'm running betanet on my office computer, and the computer can access with other people, how to secure my wallet and my mining on that browser?

You can probably use Betanet with your personal user and lock the computer when you're not around  Wink. Same as you do with your BT, you can't leave your Browser open or someone from the office might post in your behalf.

Can I use my smartphone to mine NIM?

You can mine but you are not likely to find a block in maybe years. And don't forget the fast battery drain.
My desktop browser (core i7) showed on testnet, which has low hashrate, 2.6 days to find a block.

The current PoW for the Betanet is SHA256. We plan to use a Memory-bound PoW Algorithm in the MainNet which will make Hashrate for Desktops and Mobiles similar because Hashrate in a Memory-bound PoW Algorithm is defined by Memory Latency instead of CPU Clockspeed

Isn't it quite possible that a lot of miners with GPUs will begin mining? You wouldn't be able to compete with a browser in that case. A pool for browser mining could help a little Smiley

Yes, we expect users to use specialized hardware. But since we plan to use a Memory bound PoW, browsers will always stand a chance since the memory latency in browser's RAM is not low compared to GPU.

Mining pools will probably be available soon. Some Community members are already experiment with our code.
