41  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Who is Satoshi Nakamoto? on: May 18, 2013, 08:22:57 PM
But that just gives control of the spigot over to the operator instead of the contract owner that employs the operator. The station would be more secure with any petroleum dispensing equip. The convenience is beneficial when people can eventually use bona fide credit addresses and be verified to pump in a second, and refunded the remainder into the credit address before you leave the driveway.  Your PDA would let you know this was all network-processed and you feel secure you have the money back in your wallet.

With improvements in POS network reliability and redundancy, I could easily feel safer with cc in BTCs or whatever than VISA or MasterCard.  So that's more like a cash wallet, and less like a bank issue, which we would also still hold because that's how we access our market books, etc. But as a service, the insured banks and lenders might be looking forward to offering services they can make a profit on in the realm of cryptocurrency, which is not even in the spell-check yet, so we will see how far it has yet to go still.
42  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Satoshi, please start moving your coins on: May 18, 2013, 08:05:16 PM
... but in fact they trust Satoshi who probably can debase Bitcoins anytime.

Im going to go anal:

-bitcoin/bitcoins: is the currency and, as any other currency, you dont capitalize the first letter.

-Bitcoin: is the name for the network, the protocol and even the software, therefore you capitalize the first letter.

Note that you can not write "Bitcoins", you can only write "bitcoins" because only the currency can be plural and you never capitalize it.
(thats what she said)

They might decide to come up with a logarithmic valuation based on the difficulty of the generations, let some out that way, and keep the rest as a backup hash table for some as-of-yet undesigned or purposed algorithm, even a novel fork.  It all depends on how good the salsa is that night.
43  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Best GPU for price? on: May 18, 2013, 02:36:39 AM
So what do you guys think the best GPU for money is? I am looking to get 1 and then expand my rig as time passes. What would be best to start with?
I saw some nice FPGA units that hash six times more than a GPU at only twice the price.

you did? where? are they actually delivering?

Ebay.

I could be totally off on my stats, but I was just trying to make the point that there are other things to mine with besides GPUs... and he was specifically talking about "for the money".

For the money, I would take a look at the gpu mining bitcoin wiki, and decide where you stand.

So, I was just thinking maybe you're dog might appreciate if you protected his nose from getting chopped off too.  Dogs like the taste of air, he might even lick the fan.

Hi  Grin

48  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Google bought a D-wave quantum computer on: May 18, 2013, 01:59:58 AM
the press release said today 20,000 times faster than current supercomputers.

For certain values of 'computer'
Yeah, from what I understand they have a computer running on it in a classical emulation mode, and the main goal is to study the quantum effects, which D-wave stood to prove the device actually exhibited in the first place, and optimize hence. It's not even for sure than any quantum computing can actually be done on this chip, but once people get a feel for how to ride the wave, so to speak....uh....
Basically, assembly language will become vastly more dimensional than it is now on classical devices. It's RISC and CISC at the same time, a veritable paradox. No surprise it's installed in the SF Bay Area.

Plus. It looks like a TARDIS.

50  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Mt. Gox is just the beginning. on: May 18, 2013, 01:51:26 AM
You know that pretending to be a authority agent is a crime right ?

I would say those private individuals who are actually registered as transfer agents, professionals who keep the books according to commission standards, especially as a collective, would be financially motivated after research and interested in the potential market bitcoin would offer.

To me, it looks like a list of problems that cc could potentially solve, if you are creative enough. And market economists are plenty creative. We hand them Nobel Prizes nowadays.

If theres the slightest chance that bitcoin or some cc could become the next NASDAQ, expect to see something about bitcoin on this page. Otherwise, it was just a flash in the pan./
51  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Mt. Gox is just the beginning. on: May 18, 2013, 01:35:14 AM
Mt.Gox will get shut down.  They have attracted the attention of government organizations across the world, and their failure to comply with international law will stand no longer.  They were given multiple warnings and chances to operate inside of the law, but they refused.  Clients who do not remove their funds from MtGox risk seizure and forfeiture.

Mt.Gox's closing will serve as a warning to all the unlicensed illegal currency exchanges; Comply or you are next.  If you are a customer of one of the other illegal exchanges, know that you are also risking seizure and forfeiture of your funds. You have been forewarned.

Was the government interested in providing us residents with a list?
52  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Time to adjust difficulty on: May 18, 2013, 01:33:09 AM
I think difficulty of Bitcoin goes very high. Mining is not profitable now. Without miners coin will be dead.

Do you think it's the time to adjust difficulty?

Share your opinion.......

Difficulty is a function of how interesting BTC is to mine. The more miners the harder it becomes. If there were less miners, difficulty would be lower.

Actually its a function of relative luck in a sliding window. If we keep getting lucky, and blocks are found faster or slower than a certain rate, the difficulty changes.  If we get lucky, we could see a change, if we start getting unlucky, we could see a change the other way.

Miners who can figure out how to get more lucky (like by increasing hashrate with various designer chips) gets more of the future block rewards. And later on, someone will be fragging aliens in doom with all the GPU miners in electronics recycling heaven.

We have Moore's Law on our side (as miners).
54  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: PSA: Bitcoin's survival and long term prospects depend on MtGox getting killed. on: May 17, 2013, 11:39:22 PM
Please do your part killing this offensive piece of shit scamsite. Never trade on MtGox. Not now, not ever. Every dollar you pay in taxes goes to feed some bureaucrat swine, pay for hospitals, education and bombers. Every dollar you pay in MtGox fees goes to feed swine exclusively.

Find a different exchange, trade there, never MtGox again.

Dwolla basically proved to the world that Gox lied to someone on paper.  I would prefer to trust Dwolla, since I got it from Apple's App Store; and that's just because I believe that Apple takes more care with the apps as far as malware goes. The chain of trust lopped Gox off the trunk, so I'll never send another Satoshi thru it again!

If you do, doesn't it mean you are looking past the alleged deceptions.
55  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The First Political Zone to Officially Recognize Cryptocoins on: May 17, 2013, 11:34:15 PM
A political zone that accepts bitcoin?  SO WERE BEING TAXED ALREADY??

Hi, I am Edan Yago. I have been invited to speak at Bitcoin 2013 about a new autonomous region that is going to come into existence by the end of this year. It is the result of many years of dedicated work coming to fruition.

The region’s laws are specifically being designed to have low regulatory barriers and provide residents with the world’s highest degree of freedoms. Freedom, and the experimentation it allows, create prosperity – and our mandate is to create a zone for such prosperity. We have decided to introduce this zone at Bitcoin 2013 because we think it will be of particular interest to you: It will be the first political zone in the world to officially recognize cryptocurrencies.

I am traveling down to the conference today, so I may not be able to be responsive here. But I am interested to hear what questions you have so that I can try and answer them during the talk.

I am excited to finally be able to talk about this and am looking forward to seeing you all.

56  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Google bought a D-wave quantum computer on: May 17, 2013, 11:32:07 PM
Cheesy Quantum computing sounds exciting... the press release said today 20,000 times faster than current supercomputers. That's fast, and nice to know more than one or two customers are able to purchase, install, and begin programming them THIS YEAR.

The implications for the future of cryptocurrency are clear-- quantum computers are legendary for cryptology computations.

Whether or not BTC is going to be the future of payment itself is, to me, less clear, but still more interesting now that alternative information processing devices are considered a logical investment to some very logical customers.

At first, programmers need to figure out how to utilize the physics to accelerate computation. It's a different paradigm, and the gamble is how talented will we be at riding the quantum wave.
57  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Cool stuff to do in San Jose for Bitcoin Attendees on: May 15, 2013, 09:54:47 PM
Santana Row is like San Jose's "Rodeo Drive". It's also right across the street from Westfield's Valley Fair Mall. You can spend an entire day at these two locations.
I wouldn't mind chillin' with Carlos.
I don't care what people say... I do not believe this man burnt down his own strip mall for the insurance cash.

Other Bay Area fun facts:

This happened. Dude corners rice market and prints his own money. Everyone already loved him, so people started using it. Emperor Norton I of San Francisco.

I shit you not.

And yes it's the same one from the fabulously-sprinkled chocolates. Supposedly it matched all his outfits...
59  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Cool stuff to do in San Jose for Bitcoin Attendees on: May 15, 2013, 09:40:33 PM
San Jose is a fairly lively city with lots of stuff to explore, or so I am told...

What's cool around town? All I know of is the Winchester Mystery House.  Probably stuff within one hour on public transit, and San Jose is so big, I guess that kind of limits my range.

Cool
60  Economy / Economics / Re: Is it true that the FED is privately owned on: May 15, 2013, 09:01:17 AM
No.

Its not a Jewish conspiracy either just in case that's your follow up.

Same answer for New World Order, Trilateral Commission, Communist Party, Bilderbergs and umpteen other people who do not own the Fed.
I know. Everyone knows the Illuminati owns the Fed, and guess who's just made chairman of the board.
