For reference here is the first email I received from these scammers. Attention: To Whom It May Concern
Greetings from Bithumb!
In the following message, the details of the listing process have been tendered. By highlighting the three methods by which tokens may be listed on Bithumb, we hope to provide all stakeholders in the listing process a clear way to understand why and how certain tokens are listed. In addition, we are working on ways to provide even more data on token projects and their backers, so purchasers can do ample research and make proper assessments. We firmly believe that a long term approach to working with quality token teams is the key to successfully fostering a healthy ecosystem and providing our community with a variety of sustainable, interesting, and useful tokens to trade. While we want to support token teams with high promise and demand, we are also wary of all the risks out there. From regulatory and legal risks, to cases of incompetence and outright fraud, we have a duty to our community to do our best in minimizing their exposure to "bad" tokens. At the same time, we try to select and list tokens that our users would like to purchase and utilize. This process of due diligence and selection, coupled with a guess as to how a token will be received by the community, is more art than science. And ultimately had left our community, token backers, and token project teams feeling disconnected. We want to change that. Bithumb is moving to broaden asset support and further augment trading volumes. Along these lines, we've been engaging in a lot of project appraisal in order select projects that'd resonate with our community.
To encourage the liveliness of the community, we aim to partner with project teams which are able to bring more active users. At our discretion, we may choose to consider listing some assets on the basis of our own evaluation, even in the absence of an application. In other cases, we will attempt to give quick, specific reasons for the approval or rejection of particular assets. Some projects can be floated into consideration for direct listing by Bithumb Prime Investors, in line with our 'Collaboration method' of listing; the second of the brand's three methods of project listing.
A listing officer will be assigned to your team in order to lend assistance where and when necessary. The designated official will give you a step-by-step walkthrough.
Please note:
* Ensure the details of your token/coin are valid and all protocols licit
* If you have previously filled out the application form, please refrain from reapplying. Any submissions with duplicative information will be denied.
* Disclosure of listing information is forbidden until the company officially issues its listing announcements.
* Unauthorized use of the company's logo in relative marketing material is prohibited.
Additional questions (if any) will be asked by our listing team.
We thank you for your support.

Never heard of an exchange asking for a refundable security deposit in coin listing but if that's a big exchange like you mentioned, I don't see any problem with that as no way they will put their name on becoming sh*t as it will ruin their reputation.
But anyways, can you disclose in public the name of the exchange? We can get a better response from the community if the name of the exchange will be mentioned. And are you sure you are dealing with their legit representative?
I have actually dumped the people I was talking too, because of suspicion of scam. The exchange was Bithumb. I also doubt that big exchanges would charge a security deposit of 4 BTC (lot of money) and refund it later. I guess that once you have sent the 4 BTC, you will never heard about these people. I do not have 4 BTC anyway, so the discussion was over. But I am still doubtful, I haven't seen articles or reports about these kind of practices, so if it is a sophisticated scam, it is good to report it here and let people know, to avoid some people losing all to these scammers. This is more than suspicious. I doubt you will find anyone on this forum who had to provide a security deposit. What was the reason they mentioned? Just to get started trading over there at Bithumb? Usually they aren't scammers, maybe you didn't even talk to people from Bithumb and fell victim for phishing? I was contacted via Discord. Then they asked me to fill a very simple listing form at @bithumbcorp.com website. Their emails were listing@bithumbcorp.com and everything sounded legit. They said that they passed the project review (took a week). Then they created a Telegram account to ask some questions (3 people were there)... the conversation ended up talking about a deposit of 4 BTC for legal reason in case the coin has some litigation issues. This is when I felt the scam and stopped everything. It is not the first time that I am contacted by people claiming this kind of security deposit, so I immediately catched up the scam. I have since investigated the emails I received and they were forged, using "Received: from wgh24.whogohost.com (wgh24.whogohost.com [23.94.191.186])" You need to read the headers of the email to find the forgery, so it is quite a sophisticated scam, that involves several people and running for weeks. I am 100% certain now that it is a scam, I am web dev for +20 years and these are very well crafted scam, not your regular Nigerian guy. I would advise all coin developers to NEVER send BTC for listing your coin. Use USDT instead and be sure that they do an invoice from inside the exchange, that you can pay from money transfered to the exchange first. Every transaction outside the exchange is suspicious. Every transaction in BTC cannot be blocked. USDT has a way to block a transaction and restore the funds, not BTC. That's my conclusion about this event. I also was scammed by people using a kucoin domain that was using a different type of i (using ì instead in the domain name. They had re-created almost all the visual for the exchange using kucoìn.com domain. On my 4K monitor I cannot see the difference with the original domain. So guys be careful, these scams are very sophisticated even for web veterans.

Hi
I am not sure if I am dealing with scammers, but I am dealing with a big exchange right now, and they are asking me to deposit cash as a security deposit, that is refundable the next months.
It sounds like a scam to me (are they going to run with this money and never list my coin)?
Is it a current practice?

Someone contacted me from CMC, the form is complex and there are many tabs at the bottom that I haven't filled out. So I think it is going in the good way now, I am waiting for an answer for them. The problem is lack of answer from the support previously.

If your project is already listed on Coinmarketcap and get delisted after weeks, for sure there are some requirements that your projects didn't achieve during the testing.. You should contact them again and figure it out the whole reason why suddenly the project was removed.. Maybe they will give you another chance if you can provide an acceptable reason. And perhaps you pay for it so you have rights anyways..
You do not understand, our project has been swapped. KYF has become FRANC However, KYF is still listed at CMC while it is not traded, and they do not list the new project FRANC. This doesn't make sense. We are the same investors, authors, and basically all KYF owner received 1:1 FRANC. I do not understand what is the missing requirement, for swapping 2 coins. Plus their swapping form does not include any fields to explain the new project? I have tried to list FRANC and keep Kryptofranc, they refused. I have tried using the swap form to tell them that we swapped, the old coin is still listed, but the new one is nowhere to find weeks after asking. You should be in contact with the cmc team to update the new swap project information into their data base to reflect, contacting them separately from the swapping form will be more effective since they didn't make provisions to such process in the form, if this isn't done, only the old coin will appear and not the recently swapped one, Although I don't understand why will they refuse to list the new swapped coin? Lots of project do that often, maybe contact them through twitter and see if they will reply and assist you. They have a form for swapped coin, I have sent about 3 applications, including their Google document with the info about the holders, and always the same thing happen, one guy send me a email saying that they will take care of the request. The first request I received an official rejection with no motive entered. The other ones never received a rejection, neither any update. I have written in their Telegram, and their Twitter. I got the same guy sending me an email saying basically that there is no scam and that I can verify that he is really working at CMC. That said, I think that he is reading this thread, but still nothing is happening. Someone at CMC is not doing his or her job about us. It is Frustrating, but I have to contact Blockfolio and others application directly to get us listed. But I am not the only one in that situation apparently. There is something not normal in this company at the moment.

While people keep contacting us to be listed in CMC for a fee, it is tempting to pay.
To be honest I wanted to say something about this method a few days ago privately. But it seems you don't really trust people in telegram. ~snip~ ...and at the same time we are contacted in private by people asking for money to be listed!?? And why their support AND the scammers at Telegram are all starting their message with "Good Day"... Like if they are the same people or at least not from an English speaking country?!?
In what ways do you consider someone to be trustworthy when he charges you a fee, that you might accept his offer to solve your problem? So many scams when you own a coin. Hundred of people with fake accounts. I trust no one.

I have tried using the swap form to tell them that we swapped, the old coin is still listed, but the new one is nowhere to find weeks after asking. The only options are to make an announcement in the community or social media where the links are posted in the old coins, create another email again and invite them to see this thread, it's not good for the community they refused to list the swapped token when they should because it's the same coin, or changed the information from an old one to a new one. This is one of the reasons why I stopped using Coinmarketcap and shifted to Coingecko, you can see new tokens listed right away. Coingeko are doing their job at being the Google of Crypto. The problem with CMC and Binance in general is that it seems that these people are using their power to influence the crypto. Since when the crypto is a Wall Street bi*tch? Since when some snobs can decide wherever a coin is good enough or not? Imagine if Google was doing the same, let's only accept big websites? It is a huge problem to have a reference in the crypto that is not reliable. Coingecko is doing great. But a lot of portfolio applications are using Coinmarketcap API to list and track the coins. Take Blockfolio, I still can follow the Kryptofranc and it is not traded anymore. But my investors stop seeing FRANC because CMC refuses to update the datas? The consequence are ripples after ripples that are affecting the well being of our project, and annoying our investors. While people keep contacting us to be listed in CMC for a fee, it is tempting to pay.

Our Kryptofranc was listed and is still listed even after it was swapped.
So, when was your coin listed? Since CMC has been acquired by Binance, the listing requirements and procedures may be somewhat different than before, so to make changes to listed coin details (such as swap coins) you have to repeat the process from scratch to complete any new requirements that you haven't fulfilled yet. Kryptofranc was listed at CMC about 2 years ago. Franc swap happened last month? Maybe it is too early? What is upsetting is that many investors do not understand. We are small, but the crypto is not only about who is powerful and have a lot of money. Otherwise that mean that it has become like the fiat banking system.

Any update now OP? hows your coins going now? does it reflected already In Coinmarket cap?
Sorry But I hope that this is not another strategy of Advertisement and your company is truly facing issues here.
No it is not, we are still not listed at Coinmarketcap. Our ex-coin Kryptofranc was listed without a problem. And it is still listed even if it was delisted from CREX24 and now it is not even mined. The new coin FRANC is not listed, after I submitted twice (1 time as a new coin and 1 time as a swap process) In their form for a swap they are asking stupid questions (list of the 20 people who own the most for example) but they do not ask about the new website or the new project. At this time. We are not listed, but traded. This website is so unprofessional. This coin is not traded anymore: https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/kryptofranc/How do they get the numbers. And why they totally ignore us, our requests, and at the same time we are contacted in private by people asking for money to be listed!?? And why their support AND the scammers at Telegram are all starting their message with "Good Day"... Like if they are the same people or at least not from an English speaking country?!?

I sent 2 forms with the google list of address. Our Kryptofranc was listed and is still listed even after it was swapped. The new coin is not listed as swapped.
FRANC is traded and we are still not listed at Coinmarketcap after 2 submission. The same guy named Akil seems to throw our requests to the trash.
Worse, at the same time we have people contacting us to help listing us to coinmarketcap in exchange of a fee.
Everything is looking very suspicious, like if the team who decide to list at Coinmarketcap is asking money to list new coin and if you do not pay, they throw your request in the trash.
Anyone knows someone or a way to contact someone trustful in this opaque company?
And their support staff is starting their email with "Good Day", common...that sounds like a big scam.

Did you filled their google document list of addresses? Maybe that's what is missing. I didn't.

No, we had a blockchain named Kryptofranc and we have swapped to Franc. Kryptofranc is listed at Coinmarketcap Franc was refused. it is the same project with a different name.

What is happening with Coinmarketcap.
Our coin was swapped, we are listed already at Coinmarketcap and here is the news: these snobs are not listing the swapped coin? What is happening at this place? Anyone has the same problem?
"Good Day,
We have reviewed your application, and regret to inform you that it does not meet our listing requirements. Please understand that due to the volume of daily requests that we receive, our content team must adhere to a strict set of criteria when deciding on which new projects will be added.
(1) Cryptoassets For a cryptoasset to be considered for a tracked listing, it should possess the following qualities: Leverage cryptography, consensus algorithms or distributed ledgers, peer-to-peer technology and/or smart contracts to function as a store of value, medium of exchange, unit of account, or decentralized application. Must have a functional website and block explorer. Must be traded publicly, and actively traded on at least one (1) exchange (with material volume) that has tracked listing status on CoinMarketCap. Provide a representative from the project with whom we can establish open lines of communication for any clarifications. "

Thank you for exchange my KYF to FRANC at CREX24. It;s very nice for you!
So let's try to make FRANC known everywhere. It is a bit early and we need to wait a week or two so that FRANC is in coingecko, coinmarketcap and that we have some trading going on. But after that the idea is to talk about FRANC to all our local country bloggers and get them to talk about FRANC. There is a lot to say, but it is also very simple to explain. "The Franc is the rebirth of the French Franc, but as a cryptocurrency. It will empower several projects like for example W.O.K a virtual world and social networking platform in 3D." Let's get some people blogging about it and post the videos.
