41  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: DO NOT BUY GPUs to mine! You will not get your money back! on: May 27, 2013, 03:34:51 AM
I 100% agree with the original poster.

But people seem to want to buy GPUs anyways, so good luck.

I think there is kind of a gold rush mentality presently.

Like the people who are spending $30k+ on pre-order Avalon ASICs. Or block eruptor USBs.

They will never make their money back. Yet they still buy.

Your absolutely right and completely wrong all at the same time  Wink

It is a goldrush mentality with all these btc newbies flooding in and they all want the new best thing, so they order themselves a BFL rig and two weeks later wonder why it didnt arrive??? So then they start reading the forums  Shocked   Whoops.

IMO GPU's are the only thing worth buying at this stage of the game. Anyone building a rig at this particular moment to "turn a financial profit" is just an idiot to begin with.
42  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Custom ASIC Minging Rig - Hardware? on: May 27, 2013, 02:46:12 AM
Send BFL an email im sure they will provide the info to build one in an hour for under $300  Cheesy
43  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Best GPU for price? on: May 25, 2013, 07:23:17 PM
I can't seem to find where on newegg they are going for $120 (7850) can you please link me?
Also thanks for the reply. I currently am on a very strict budget so I thought the 5850's woul be good as with two of them I may get 700 KH/S for around $200 is this good or?

You cant get a new 7850 for that price. Not a chance.
44  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Cheap Mining Rig - Pentium D Sufficient? on: May 25, 2013, 07:18:50 PM
I have 3 HD 7950s in  a p5ld2 with a Pentium 4 3.00GHz

to directly answer your question, yes

Cool! but are you hashing at proper 7950 speeds?
45  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Cheap Mining Rig - Pentium D Sufficient? on: May 25, 2013, 01:04:01 PM
Im building a new cheap mining rig based off an old ASRock 775XFIRE-ESATA2 Pentium D motherboard I had lying around...

I know that GPU is really the only important thing but wasn't sure how much FSB, RAM, and general motherboard/CPU really comes into play...

The motherboard actually has two PCI e slots but is overall outdated with a Pentium D 3.4  DDR2 etc...

Will the slow motherboard/ram/fsb or cpu not be able to reach the full potential of like 2 HD 5850/5870's??  Thanks for any tips from you more experienced Miners!

Im mining  stratum.bitcoin.cz:3333 slushs pool with same credentials I use for GUIminer which work fine...
47  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / CGminer All Rejected... on: May 07, 2013, 07:18:28 PM
What does that mean if cgminer is rejecting all shares and simply says its "Above or  out of range"  ??
48  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / problem solved on: May 07, 2013, 07:07:26 PM
What driver version were you on before? I am on the 13.3 beta and it is working good. Also, I know I already said this but try changing the power slider to +20% in Overdrive and see what happens. My 7950 will only mine at about half speed if I don't turn that up.

13.3 was one I did not try but then again I believe the issue was with maybe just "older" cards 69xx series?

Drivers I confirmed that do not work are:  13.4, 13.5, 13.1, 12.10, 12.8, 12.4, 12.1

I noticed on most of the above the actual drivers themselves were all the 8.982.0.0 card drivers, so im guessing any version of the catalyst that uses that driver doesn't work... The ones on the 11.11v that are now working (but s bit slower) are 8.961.0.0...

49  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Problem Solved! on: May 07, 2013, 03:46:24 AM
It was the drivers, not the miners, all three failed terribly gui, CG and bfgminer all did same things or crashed...

I did a total uninstall of the ADM drivers (cleaned out reg and all) and then had to install old drivers 11.11 and now its working but hashrate is slow with these drivers  Undecided
50  Other / Beginners & Help / PROBLEM SOLVED! Sort of... on: May 07, 2013, 03:44:13 AM
Okay, so it was the Drivers... I did a total uninstall of all AMD drivers (they like to stick around) and installed the 11.11 version of the catalyst and now GUIminer works but hash rate sucks and drivers suck   Undecided
51  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Quick .1BTC reward For Help! on: May 06, 2013, 11:34:11 PM
Make sure your firewall/antivirus isn't blocking any of your miner's files or connections. Also, try setting power slider in CCC to 20% and see what happens.

Only thing that was changed when it stopped running was some recent windows updates, one of which was a new IE version... I don't know if that could have effected it?

Also, have you tried mining without Stratum? Just to see if it works.

How do I do that? I'm sorry im not very technical and don't understand all the file syntax...

This is not connection problem. (cgminer dont send anything), this is drivers problem i think. If this don`t work, pls pull off all cards and check separately each.

I removed the cards and went back to my old setup with just the 1 card and it still gave the same error. I have since updated to new drivers and SDK versions... I read in only one other thread I found on this similar matter that it was driver related, that is why I have been experimenting with different drivers but I still haven't found any that worked Sad
52  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Help with CGminer? on: May 06, 2013, 11:30:02 PM

sounds like a bad card

I have two cards, 1 that works great for last 3 months of mining, and 1 brand new card that worked great for 24 hours of mining. I was "breaking in" the crossfire setup and hadn't yet overclocked anyone. Tried both card separate and neither works. Cards are both perfect.

The SDK tools will have to be installed to mine opencl.

I would try uninstalling whatever SDK tools you have on there and figuring out how to get the tools properly installed.

There are some pretty good reads out there on getting SDK and drivers removed for a new clean install

How many ways can it be installed, I did a total removal of SDK and all graphics drivers about 5 times and reinstalled using new versions, old versions and different combos of both. Still did the exact same error the whole time. Also, when it was functioning 100% correct with both cards, I never changed any drivers or SDK...
53  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Help with CGminer? on: May 06, 2013, 05:40:09 PM
try downloading and installing

Updated ati drivers
*reboot*
latest ATI SDK tools  <-- didn't work   Embarrassed
*reboot*
latest cgminer

still no luck?  try bfgminer < - -- Thought this was only for ASIC?

still not working, idiot-proof solution is BITMINTER.  <---- using out of desperation...

Are you using CGminer for Linux or Windows?

Windows 7 64bit

I do have a thread in newbies section, but this is a technical issue and hoping I can get some better help here.

Backstory:

Been using guiminer for several months on slushs pool perfectly fine and well with my hd6950. Added another hd6950 3 days ago and for 1 day they both ran perfectly normal for a day. After 1 day of using both cards at some point guiminer simply stopped accepting shares. I made no changes, and nothing wrong with my hardware. Ive tried driver updated/reinstalls, deleting bitcoin qt and guiminer and reinstalling but nothing works... I simply get the same "hardware error message" shown below. CGminer will not run either.

Cgminer simply wont run it says "started cgminer 3.0.1 but than never starts mining...

guiminer just keeps giving me this error:

Any reason you're choosing CGminer?

I was using guiminer on slushs pool for last several months... One day I looked at my miner and it just stopped accepting shares...

Im using bitminter software now, but do not like it nearly as much. Id prefer to be back on slush or similar.

Reward to anyone that helps me solve this!

Reward starts at  .1BTC  just to help me make guiminer (which is already setup and has been working perfect, start working again)
57  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Should I buy an ASIC miner? on: May 06, 2013, 03:30:42 PM
It may be as easy as working out how much you will earn, but it's actually getting your hands on a unit that is the hard part.

How hard is it to get hold of one? Can you point me to a site?
Would I be better off getting a mining contract if I want to earn a bit of dosh?

I don't think "should I buy one" is the question... If you could even get one, there is a waiting list of thousands before you...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l4cVKu7j9tg

heres a pretty easy guide on how to easily setup cgminer, if you still want to try it.

Thanks but it is not working either... I cant possibly be the only using 6950's with guiminer, since they obviously don't mix... That's a very popular mining card  Huh
59  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Help with CGminer? on: May 06, 2013, 04:54:16 AM
Why would GUIMiner, that is a GUI front end to CGMiner not work with your cards

If that was the case cgminer wouldn't work xD

Well I thought it would be worth a try. guiminer mysteriously stopped working for no good reason and no solution Ive found anywhere... If you hve any ideas please let me know...

Here is my guiminer trouble post:  https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=196384.0

Since Guiminer simply will not work with my 6950's Id like to try CGminer but im too dumb to set it up Sad

I tired and failed and cant find any decent tutorials...

Can someone point me to a tutorial or explanation on how to setup and use CGminer?  Also will I be able to join slush's pool with it? Thanks for any help
