41  Economy / Economics / Re: Can Bitcoin End World Poverty? on: October 01, 2017, 05:07:43 PM
Bitcoin can help end poverty in the sense that, "an ideal digital bank of the future would not only offer payments through fiat and cryptocurrencies, but also have fully integrated marketplaces for various value chain players enabled by a multitude of mobile and artificial intelligence/machine learning (AI/ML) technologies, while offering a range of cross-platform service offerings to its consumers globally. (1)” In other words, a blockchain based bank built for everyone, not just for people in developing countries.(2)

For banking to be financially inclusive, fair and globally connected a decentralised model certainly makes sense.
45  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Are challenger banks in the UK as ‘disruptive’ as they claim? on: September 29, 2017, 03:58:14 PM
Rushd Averroes, the founder of blockchain based bank BABB has some interesting thoughts about the so-called ‘disruptive’ role of challenger banks in the UK:

“During my search, I found almost no evidence of companies building full-stack solutions independent of legacy systems.

"So-called challenger banks in the UK build into legacy payment systems and end up simply re-creating a banking business model.

"The only difference is a nifty smartphone app with a beautiful user interface.

"Those things are nice to have, of course, but I had clarified my thinking enough by that point to know that I had ambitions beyond plastering a pretty new facade onto crumbling old infrastructure.”

There are a lot of kinks to work out and yes, "blockchain" is the buzzword of the year, but I believe that it will be the solid cryptocurrencies that finally provide this economic inclusion that the traditional banks have so far failed to deliver.

49  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Billionaire CEO Taizo Son predicts that ICOs will come to dominate on: September 29, 2017, 10:36:19 AM
  • Initial coin offerings (ICOs) will become a major way for startups to raise funds in the future, according to a Japanese billionaire investor
  • Taizo Son, founder and CEO at venture capital firm Mistletoe, said digital token sales democratize the fundraising process for start-ups
  • He said that consumer-facing businesses would likely have an easier time doing an ICO

ICOs are "very good because they democratize venture financing for not only professionals like venture capitalists, but also individuals can participate in exciting projects from start-ups to support," Son said.
