41  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S3 Discussion and Support Thread. on: October 24, 2014, 07:35:26 AM
Tried it on one S3, I'm getting the following message when I get into the configuration tab:
Code:
XML Parsing Error: not well-formed Location: http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/cgi-bin/luci/;stok=790c91407384aced396168d58731120d/admin/status/miner/ Line Number 348, Column 34:	Modify voltage and Save&Apply, then need to Power off and Restart -------------------------------------------------------------^

Any ideas?

Cheers
Went back to antMiner_S320140826.bin, seems to be back to normal (needed to reinstall CK's 461 cgminer, which was 'nuked' by reverting to this earlier f/w)

Cheers

So I did a little testing and want to post the results I got (if anyone wants to put it into an easy to read graph that would be great).
So I measured the voltage out of the wall socket at 118v which goes to my 3,000 watt step up voltage converter/transformer.  Out of the step up converter/transformer it measures 230v.  I've got my APC Smart-UPS 1500 (1,000 watt) sine wave (230v version) connected to that (which I measured only uses 1 to 2 watts when the battery is full).  Also have a 5 port switch that measures about 1 watt of consumption at idle connected.  The ThorTech Thunderbolt Plus 1200 watt power supply is connected to that and the pair of AntMiner S3+ are connected to that (the display is showing that the power supply is running at a 92.77% efficiency).  So the measurements on efficiency and power are for the pair of (batch eight) S3+'s working in pair and mining for at least 5 minutes at each speed before the measurements were taken.  Note that the case the AntMiners are in has 6 additional 120mm case fans as well as a fan controller.  The wattage measurements fluctuate so I took the closest average.

Speed:          #1  (GH/S avg)     #2           Wattage at the wall           Wattage after the Step-Up C/T(230v)        Wattage after the power supply 12v (for pair of S3+'s and 6 additional case fans and cont.)
250M            486.62              499.42                  928                                         877                                                        825

Looks like I'm going to underclock a little 3 S3+'s down to S3 default speed of 218.75M on a EVGA 1300 watt G2 power supply for my next rig for about 1,050 watts at the power supply.
Here's a little odd fact I found out this weekend, when I set up a pair of S3+'s (at 237.5M for the pair) with a Corsair AX1500i Titanium power supply on the same power set up as above and only 4 smaller case fans, the wattage was about 20 watts MORE.  This shouldn't be as the power supply is Titanium rated and set up is closer to the 50% load rating.

Thanks for the results.  In my experience it takes a lot longer than 5 minutes for hash rate to stabilize, 1 hour is more like it.  The power readings may settle down earlier, however there will be some variations as things warm up, fans spin higher etc.

is it correct commands to update ?

SSH into the S3 and login
cd /usr/bin
mv cgminer cgminer.bak
wget http://ck.kolivas.org/apps/cgminer/antminer/s3/4.6.1-141020/cgminer
chmod +x cgminer
Reboot

thanks
I used
Code:
cd /usr/bin
mv cgminer oldcgminer/cgminer
wget http://ck.kolivas.org/apps/cgminer/antminer/s3/4.6.1-141020/cgminer
chmod 755 cgminer
reboot
(the directory "oldcgminer" was created earlier to hold previous versions)
hint to reduce typing errors:  (works on Putty with Windows) copy the text that you want to enter, then mouse-left-click in the Putty window to define the insertion point, right-click to paste the text.

Your procedure looks ok as well.

So far so good - I noticed mdudes antmonitor no longer reports the diff value, did something change?
Lowmem stops showing the diff, so perhaps that's why.
Is it just me or did the LSTime stop reporting?
Also affected by use of lowmem, but it shouldn't be (i.e. that's a bug). It is optional to use lowmem, you can disable it. I was just recommending it generically since S* controllers are very low powered.

Thanks!  Just applied this to a bunch of S3's, and they all seem to be hashing at a similar rate as the previous 4.6.1.

happy that my S3 farm has roi'd in bitcoins.
i did use some S1's to help though .
the above hashrates helped a lot.
solid miner like S1 .

Mine farm ROI'd last month...now I am +1 BTC in profit... Grin

10 x S1's + 2 x S3 ...more on the way...some in, some out... Wink

Good luck mining...

ZiG
Hopefully you are factoring in your electricity costs.  I'm approaching ROI on my first S3's, but that is when ignoring the power consumption cost.  Things are significantly worse when electricity costs are applied (in my location it is wiser to turn these off during peak electricity times with current BTC exchange rate).

48  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Antminer S1 Upgrade Kit on: September 30, 2014, 09:56:10 AM
Having issues with one of my upgrades. All of the other 6 units are hashing without issue, but one unit refuses to mine. I'm getting 100% discarded. I'm not sure what's going on with this unit.

I've tried the following:
1. Updated to latest S3 firmware, not saving config
2. Configured unit from scratch (same problem)
3. Backed up and restored a working config from another unit (same problem)
4. Rebooted numerous times
5. Powered off/on unit numerous times

I'm running out of ideas on what could be the issue. Any ideas of suggestions from the community on what could be causing this issue?
Check that there is no IP conflict with other units (that this Antminer is setup to a unique IP, my preference is to stick with fixed addresses on the wired WAN setting).
Make sure that there are no typo's in the pool settings (had one of those on my very first S1, thought it was DOA).
If these fail to solve it, try first to do a Reboot (System, reboot tab, click 'reboot now').
Failing that, make sure that all of your ribbon cable connectors are fully pushed into their sockets, and follow the same connection pattern as on the working units (see post above where another user had an issue with the connector not fully engaged).
You can also swap power supplies etc.

Someone Can Please Help!
I have 2 broken control boards of my old Antminers S1. I need these boards to the Ugrade Kit?

Please inform which part of old Antminer S1 will be in use in new Upgrade Kit, it seems everything is in Upgrade Kit. Nothing of my old antminers - except the support structure - will be recycled even the old fans are not in use with the new Kit, correct?

I just bought a set of upgrades, and they require the Lan-wireless boards...  and it only comes with one fan... to upgrade your system to a push pull system...  and Im not happy with mine,,  missing cables, and screws...  just not happy at all... and the one I got working,,,  will only hash at 100G Hash...  so Im done!
Did you install the new firmware (make sure to untick 'keep settings'), setup the network and pool config and select the frequency (Miner configuration, 'advanced' tab)?
I did a pair of upgrades and they are working just fine.  The only minor flaws are that the 2nd fan speed is not displayed and the LAN connector has limited space, so molded Ethernet RJ-45 connectors cannot fit.  Both of the upgraded S1/3's can be pushed to 250 MHz doing about 500 GH/s, or run in 'economy mode' at 206.5 MHz doing about 415 GH/s (and anything in between).

Hello i accidentally remove my cgminer on my ant miner s1 under system and software.
i need help on the ff:
1) how can i install the cgminer to and what version should i install
2) where can i find the default script?

Thanks
One option is to re-flash your S1 with the latest firmware from the Bitmain support page.  Another option is to install cgminer 4.6.0 as described elsewhere in this forum.  The process for that is
login to your S1 with Putty, then enter the following:
Code:
cd /usr/bin
wget http://ck.kolivas.org/apps/cgminer/antminer/s3/4.6.0-140908/cgminer
chmod 755 cgminer
reboot

what should i put in port etc?

Yes, Putty is an SSH client, you can use the default settings, enter the ip address of your miner (need to accept the initial security certificate on first use).
re-flashing the Bitmain firmware would be simpler though.

53  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: S1 on: September 27, 2014, 10:36:23 AM
I can connect to it but it doesn't hash anymore.. Sad..  Was hashing for about 4-5 months, any ideas on what could of stopped it?  The miner status page only says "This section contains no values yet".
First you might try to reboot it from the Gui (System, Reboot, click on 'perform reboot'), or do it from AntMonitor. If that doens't resolve it try to turn off the power supply, let it rest for a few minutes, then restart.
If these steps don't do it, start trouble shooting your stuff (measure power supply voltages, make sure that your settings are still correct, no burnt components on the S1 etc.)

can someone explain this to me? What is wrong with this picture? I am running the latest image.... Fans even hitting 12,400 RPM, pretty soon my S3 is going to be flying around the room!

I'm also getting very high fan speed readings on the 2nd fan of some S3's.  I don't think that it is the real fan speed, only some software error in reporting. The sound is similar to the other S3's that report a more 'conventional' speed. (Don't rush to tie your S3 before it flies away...).

55  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Antminer S1 Upgrade Kit on: September 25, 2014, 09:17:03 AM
I've tried most of the frequencies from the default 325, 317, 350... I can't seem to get the unit to hash over 325 GHS, it seems to sit at 290 through 315.

Also, my miner isn't displaying temperature or the second fan speed.

Am I the only experiencing these issues?

I still have 3 more kits to upgrade and I'm a bit worried that I'm going to have issues.
Upgraded 2 S1's to S3, neither shows the temp of the second fan.
By the way - why don't you upgrade the firmware from S1 to S3+?  - this is what Bitmain advises and others have done.  That would probably resolve the number of chains issue.

Cheers
56  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Antminer S1 Upgrade Kit on: September 24, 2014, 09:22:02 AM
I'm a bit unhappy with Antminer ATM. I ordered (2) of the S1 rebuild kits back when they first came out. They're already expensive enough, but when I ordered their add said that it included a "bag" of thermal paste. Got them today, NO PASTE!! So I had to plunk down another .1 BTC to Newegg for the good paste and quick shipping. Oh! and they changed their advertisement "AFTER" they shipped my hardware. Real nice customer service Antminer. If you were an American company someone would probably sue you for false advertisement.
Okay, guess I'm done venting, but if you've ordered any of these you'll need thermal paste.

I wasn't expecting any thermal paste with the upgrade kits, so wasn't disappointed.  As any common hardware nerd, i always have some of this stuff around anyway....Smiley

Need help/info

I'm overclocking both my S3+ miners to 231.25GHz. One is working fine and after 3 days of mining non stop is stable at 465GH/s. But the other one quickly drops it hash rate to about ~433GH/s after 1 day of mining. I've rebooted this one before because "x"'s started showing up. But this time they're all "o". So no chip faults or shutting down.

Is this because the load is to high because of the overclocking or is it because the miner is just underperforming?

You do know that the difference of 32GHs is currently 22 cents per day in earnings? Not really worth the worry. Just let them run.

Well if there is something I could do to fix this. I wouldn't mind the worry (:
My impression is that every S3 has its own 'personality'.  This is probably related to the consistency (or lack of) in putting these together.  During removal of hashing boards for the S1 to S3 upgrade I noticed how the amount of thermal paste and its distribution is different among different units.  This is just one example where inconsistent workmanship would cause differences in performance.  There may be also external differences such as different power supplies or different air-flow circumstances to the different miners.

I installed this upgrade yesterday.  Used the latest firmware (antMiner_S320140826.bin, do not tick 'save settings').  After re-flashing the firmware it returns to 'default' settings  (IP 192.168.1.99 and the test pools).  You cannot leave both miners at this IP, so you'll need to re-configure the network WAN addresses and your pool configuration. You also need to select the frequency settings at Miner Configuration/Advanced settings, 'save & apply'.  In the odd case of a 'stubborn' miner, you might need to perform a system reboot  (System tab, reboot, click on 'perform reboot').  My upgrade went smoothly and both S1's are now functioning as S3+.

i probably the only one who's using wireless on 10 of my miners my router would normally resign a diff ip  is that gonna make a difference
I've never used the wifi on the S1's or S3's.  I always use the wired network connection with different fixed WAN settings (WAN = wide area network) for each miner.  Try the wired connection to verify basic operation.  Note that re-flashing without retaining old settings would have also wiped out your old wifi settings (such as SSID, WPA passwords etc.), so if you insist on using wifi, you'll need to reprogram all of those.

Good luck
