41  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: bitcoin vs solidcoin on: September 03, 2011, 12:23:47 PM
would need 300GH or so at the moment...  the seven largest pools could pull it off

They hit a low of 91.5GH.  I expect it'll get lower.
42  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [100% complete!] Want Bitcoin to have a real user/merchant support site? on: September 03, 2011, 12:19:48 PM
because it is advertised by the stackexchange fans all the time.

If you refer to this thread then I agree that the constant bumping by Chris Acheson was a bit excessive. It's not in line with normal forum etiquette.

Eh, I was impatient, and it's not like normal forum etiquette is observed around here anyway.
43  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: SolidCoin 1.03 Released - Update immediately on: September 03, 2011, 08:32:16 AM
The thing is, I can react quickly to things before they become problems, and on top of that the next SolidCoin client is many times better programmed than Bitcoin. I have basically recoded about 20% of the client now, fixing a swathe of multithreading issues and performance problems in the design which looks like it was written by an amateur.

So CoinHunter, this is another thing that's been bothering me about your claims.  All these bug fixes that you've been referring to... where are they?  Can you point out the specific commits that you're talking about?
44  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: SolidCoin 1.03 Released - Update immediately on: September 03, 2011, 08:07:16 AM
And this wasn't an "attack" , it was a bunch of trolls sending out tiny amounts of transactions to try to slow down the network...

There's not much point in even doing a real attack.  It's good to counter the ridiculous propaganda, and generally caution people about putting money into these alternate blockchains, but other than that SolidCoin seems to be dying on its own.
45  Bitcoin / Press / Re: Bitcoin press hits, notable sources on: September 03, 2011, 04:47:16 AM
The recent unpleasantness surrounding Bruce Wagner has made the front page of Metafilter: http://www.metafilter.com/107065/Bruce-Wagner-and-the-Bitcoin-Scam

The usual critics make their usual criticisms in the comments, though a few MeFites do step up to defend Bitcoin.
46  Other / Off-topic / Re: Freemasons Shut Down Public Access to Somethingaweful Bitcoin (SA) Forums on: September 03, 2011, 12:54:21 AM
Well, now I've been banned from SA, too.  I guess I'm with you guys full-time from now on.

Sweet deal, let the assimilation begin.  Reading that SA thread was the only thing keeping my perspective balanced.  Now that I (and others) no longer have access to it, I'm sure bitcoins will be going UP UP UP.
47  Other / Archival / Re: Would you subscribe to a kink.com site if you could pay with Bitcoin? on: September 02, 2011, 11:54:18 PM
OP-  Great idea to approach them.  However, conducting a poll here is probably not a good market indicator. You should poll a group of people who are already subscribing to Kink and see whether they would prefer to have an anonymous payment method in which personal financial details are not stored on the company's server.

While polling current subscribers might be a good idea if you can do it, keep in mind that they'll probably be less interested on average.  They've already given their credit card info, so obviously that wasn't a dealbreaker for them.
48  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Solidcoin Design Contest - 1000 SOLID COIN BOUNTY! on: September 02, 2011, 10:03:16 PM
@ FlipPro : Please move the Contest to the SolidCoin Forums.
At Bitcointalk, we have no Control over the Trolls, and the Moderators dont give a Fuck.

I'd say this thread has been pretty successful so far.
49  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ANNOUNCE] SolidCoin - new and improved block chain. Secure from pools on: September 02, 2011, 09:30:26 PM
The network hash rate has made a new low since the initial difficulty run-up.  This means the number of SolidCoin "loyalists" willing to mine it at a loss is decreasing.
50  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: New Ixcoin fork -> I0coin on: September 02, 2011, 07:42:18 AM
Oh, case in point. Exchanges switched to ix.2, so if there was activity on ix.1 and people tried sending coins to an exchange ... they'd be lost.

Well, they'd be lost on the old chain.  If they upgrade to the new client, they'd get those coins back because the new chain never saw the transaction.
51  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: New Ixcoin fork -> I0coin on: September 02, 2011, 07:26:14 AM
iX 0.002XX
i0 0.001XX Huh

i0coin needs more promotion, twitter, facebook, forums... or... create a thread on speculation section and profit Grin

i0coin needs more people to mine on the ORIGINAL ixcoin chain. Thomas fucked up his "fix" big time and a little creativity (and a fair bit of hashing power) could pretty much permanently kill ixcoin.

Unless I missed something, the new and old clients won't talk to each other, and therefore won't share blocks.  Mining on one side of the chain fork isn't going to affect the other.
52  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ANNOUNCEMENT] Ixcoin 0.3.24.2 SECOND mandatory update released on: September 02, 2011, 05:04:40 AM
I'm running the new client on my machine, my pool and the bitparking exchange. All show the block count as 20027. If you're running the old client I'm pretty sure transfers to/from the exchange won't work as it's on the new client.

Now thats excellent incentive to get users to move to new client/chain, no upgrade then no exchanging Wink

LOL as if we really care about exchanging our precious ixcoins that we are mining just to piss off Thomas. LOL Wink

You realize mining on the old client doesn't actually do anything, right?  The new client won't recognize the chain fork made by the old client and vice-versa, so they're not hindering each other.
53  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Tom Williams ~ The Smoking Gun(s) on: September 02, 2011, 02:20:38 AM
SA goons keep talking about how Tom Williams allegedly attended the Bitcoin Conference in NYC unmolested, but I've never seen any credible citation for this - anyone know anything about that?

I heard the rumor that he was there too but there is nothing credible backing that up.

They were also talking about some Swedish guy with a backpack stealing laptops.  I never heard anything about it here, so I figured they might've been just making it up.
54  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Public opinion of Bitcoin on: September 02, 2011, 02:17:23 AM
When this poll was first posted, I picked "not sure".  I'm now of the opinion that he is very bad for Bitcoin's image.  When I first got involved with Bitcoin, I would have chosen "good" or "very good".
55  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ANNOUNCE] SolidCoin - new and improved block chain. Secure from pools on: September 01, 2011, 08:38:09 AM
New article posted, we have had some queries from people wondering about SolidCoin dealing with Bitcoins collapse and the future, so we wrote an article detailing some things. There is also a bounty for promoting it, check it out at the site.

Wow.  I didn't think it was possible, but you seem to be getting more sleazy by the day.
56  Economy / Marketplace / Re: MyBitcoin was probably a scam - and if it was, here's who's responsible on: August 31, 2011, 06:07:47 AM
Someone changed mybitcoin.com to return a redirect response to the ip address where onlyonetv.com is hosted.  I didn't want to get involved in this thread, but felt this needed to be pointed out.

Well, that's mighty interesting.  Makes the "we were hacked" claims even more suspicious.
57  Economy / Marketplace / Re: MyBitcoin was probably a scam - and if it was, here's who's responsible on: August 31, 2011, 04:42:22 AM
The "Bruce Wagner = Tod Williams = Tom Williams" seems tenuous at best.  Curious to see where this goes, though.
58  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ANNOUNCE] SolidCoin - new and improved block chain. Secure from pools on: August 30, 2011, 02:58:07 PM
Falls a bit short of CoinHunter's claim that "10,000 people own solidcoins".  I'd really like to know how he extrapolated the other 9,299, but he seems reluctant to say.
Easy
1 block every 3 minutes instead of every 10 minutes -> you can multiply by 10/3 -> 2300 users
Five reasons to own solidcoins -> 11500 users

QED

2300... 23... 2+3=5...
FIVE reasons to own solidcoins...
S O L I D <-- FIVE letters...

O_O

SolidCoin is a Discordian plot, isn't it?  We've all been taken in by operation mindfuck.

Falls a bit short of CoinHunter's claim that "10,000 people own solidcoins".  I'd really like to know how he extrapolated the other 9,299, but he seems reluctant to say.

This guy sure knows how to beat a dead horse.

I'm sorry, I guess I missed the part where he actually answered the damn question.  Are you really not at all concerned about the fact that the guy is lying through his teeth in his promotional materials?
59  Other / Off-topic / Re: Two interesting emails I received today... on: August 30, 2011, 02:32:50 PM
Madhatter and nanaimogold are obviously scumbags.  That doesn't really help your case though, Bruce.

I think it'd be best for Bitcoin if you stepped out of the spotlight for now, and gave others a chance to step up.  We need a chance to diversify and decentralize the Bitcoin "PR department".  Just take a break from your promotional activities for a little while and wait for the air to clear.
60  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ANNOUNCE] SolidCoin - new and improved block chain. Secure from pools on: August 30, 2011, 02:11:52 PM
Remind me again, how many people own solidcoins?
There are 701 users on the bitparking exchange with a balance of solidcoins greater than zero. It doesn't give an indication of actual users since they'll be people who don't use the exchange, and people who have withdrawn their solidcoins so the exchange doesn't hold it, but it may help gauge the size.

Falls a bit short of CoinHunter's claim that "10,000 people own solidcoins".  I'd really like to know how he extrapolated the other 9,299, but he seems reluctant to say.
