42  Bitcoin / Wallet software / seed phrases on: November 01, 2017, 06:03:41 PM
Hi folks,

quick question or two about seed phrases...because I'm only about a week into this fabulous world of bitcoin and know jack sh*t so far, LOL.

So far I can't figure out if a seed phrase is connected directly to my bitcoin (somehow) or to a particular wallet?

For example, if I had 3 soft wallets and a hardware wallet, would they all have independent seed phrases?
If I had the copay wallet and emptied and deleted it, it would then be ok to throw away the copay seed phrase for that wallet?

Point being, I'm getting a Trezor today and want to make sure I do it right, which I THINK is to generate a whole new seed phrase that is specific to the Trezor and the bitcoin on the Trezor only, correct?

The plan at the moment is to have a coinbase wallet for depositing fiat, transfer that to GDAX to buy bitcoin to save on fees, transfer from there to Trezor.  Also, keep a Copay app although I imagine I will never use it.  Does that seem like a reasonable plan?

If at all possible, please talk to me like I'm a 6 year old.  Thank you!   Grin
43  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Cryptocurrency ! Will go boom in no time. on: October 31, 2017, 02:31:42 AM
I've been thinking about this for a while now, as I'm trying to decide how much I want to put into it.  I just got my very first BTC in my account today!  I think it has great potential but a long way to go before 'going boom'

First, I don't even come close to seeing it as a currency right now.  Pretty much everybody here thinks it will rise like crazy, so why would you ever buy a hotdog with bitcoins today when those bitcoins might buy a car tomorrow?  Like the $20,000,000 pizza guy in 2010> The value has to settle down BIG TIME before you can ever view it as a currency.  As an investment, it's only as good as it becoming a currency one day, no?

Second, I'm no tech whiz (at all), but I've been reading and studying and reading about it, and am still scared to death that I'm going to lose it or get it stolen from or whatever.  I think it has to get way more user friendly to take hold.  My litmus test is, if my dad (can't set his clock in his Ford) could manage to get himself some and use it, then we've really got something.  And there's no way he could ever EVER figure it out!  But he can manage an iPhone, so that tells you that UI is critical and bitcoin hasn't got it (yet).

I'm just playing devil's advocate here probably, but I'm trying to keep from investing my life savings LOL.

Thanks for the reply.  I guess that's the question.  Typically, does the BTC move to my address when I confirm the buy?  Or is the price just locked and i don't own it til I actually see it in my account on coinbase?  I've tried contacting them, so far no dice...
Either way it sounds like I won't ever get the BTG but still interested in when the BTC became 'mine'.

Hi everyone, please bear with me, super and I mean SUPER green here.
So I signed up on coinbase last week and bought my first bitcoin ever.  I locked a price on 10/24.  It still hasn't been put in my account, should be tomorrow.  The question is, do I get a BCG because my transaction date was before the fork?  And if coinbase doesn't support BCG, how will I know?  And if I do get one, how do I actually 'get' it? TIA for responses, first of many I'm sure  Grin
