41  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Raspberry Pi Crashing... on: November 16, 2017, 09:48:01 PM
my answer would be to not buy anymore hardware and sell what you have to some fool that doesnt realize what a waste of time, resources, and money they are.

That's very helpful for all of us who see this more as a hobby than anything.

42  Bitcoin / Mining support / Raspberry Pi Crashing... on: November 16, 2017, 05:57:18 PM
I recently got a Pi and had no problems getting it set up for running 2pac's with cgminer. While I have been waiting for more hardware to come in (better Hub, more 2pacs) I was not having a problem running a few 2pacs. I now have 5 and after running them at stock freq the damn thing crashes and I have to unplug/plug the power back in to get it up and running once more. Once that happens, I have no problems running cgminer with the 2pacs. Everything seems stable as far as the 2pac's go.

Maybe I missed something, but I was not under the impression you needed an advanced computer to run cgminer with some sticks. Do I need to get my hands on another Pi to run additional 2pac's or is there another way around this problem? Right now I am in the process of troubleshooting as best I can to see if it can stabilize as that might give more info as to what is going on.

Thank you in advance.

Wow, this project looks great. I was thinking about buying a used U3 or something off ebay, but now I will just wait around for these to come to market and snatch up one right away. Should be easy as I am running 2pacs at the moment.

Keep up the great work and keep us posted.

Hey, guys, I want to buy asic usb miner 330 mh/s. And now it will make $28 per 24 hours. Is it possible? Maybe some of you have it and get the same result?

The only way to make $28 from that is to sell to some poor schmuck for $28.

Where are you guys getting this bad information??  You tube if I had to guess.

I don't understand the $30ish ebay market price. They are worthless considering you can get a 2pac for $80 which can run at 15 g/h. You would think people could figure it out with a little research but I guess not.

I'm trying to configure the 2pac on a raspberry pi but after I finish entering the code, the readout says there are no gekko devices enabled.  What am I missing here?
Do you use cgminer?
Did you compile it yourself exactly like described in post #1?
What operating system do you use?

I got the 2pac configured but when i go to run "./cgminer -o stratum+tcp://pool.ckpool.org:3333 -u 1BURGERAXHH6Yi6LRybRJK7ybEm5m5HwTr -p x --suggest-diff 32"
I get an error saying that cgminer command wasnt found

try this to make sure you are in the right directory-
cd git/vthoang/cgminer
./cgminer -o stratum+tcp://pool.ckpool.org:3333 -u YOURWALLETID -p x --suggest-diff 32

I'm assuming of course you set everything as per page 1. If so, that should do the trick I would think. If you give the command to run cgminer without being in the correct directory, it won't work.

Did you remember to input "--enable-gekko". I just got my Pi setup w/Raspian and the instructions on page one worked like a charm. I've heard/seen things about using Minera, there are instructions on page 4 of this thread and some youtube videos on how to get it going if that's your thing. No idea if anyone has tried it recently to confirm it works still...

How would I setup the Y cables with my two hubs should I wish to overclock? I know it's a stupid question, but for some reason I'm not quite picturing how it goes together in my head.

Y cables: you connect  the top side of the Y to two slots on the hub, then connect the third to your stick, which would be getting double the power (if needed).

You'll have to order the correct Y-s, making sure that they fit on one side into the hub and another into a stick (M-F), not F-F or M-M.
if there are no right y-s available, then there are always m-f usb adapters.

Good mining!

Ah, gotcha. Thanks.

Makes sense. Thank you for the explanation.

Interesting, I was aware of companies/people out there which offered contracts for processing power, but didn't think it was all that popular. Guess I am wrong.
The current rented/rentable rate on nicehash alone is 68.722 PH (and 63PH on MRR, but some of them are resellers from nh)

What is the overall opinion on here regarding renting processing power? I have been more concentrated on getting my own small rig up and running and have not looked much into it to be honest. So far all I have read is that to get a return on investment you would need to throw down the money for a decent amount of time to get much out of it. Can't say I was anywhere near sold on the idea but I admit I know little and am always willing to hear other opinions.
50  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [FREE] ckpool.org ZERO FEE SPLNS no registration mining pool on: November 12, 2017, 02:49:29 PM
Our overall hashrate is in a constant state if flux. We have a number of heavy hitters who will rent out their gear but point it here when not renting that hash out to a customer.

That's my understanding of it at least

I can't speak to the Solo question, but I think it's been around longer?

Any idea why all of a sudden more people jumped into the pool? Yesterday at least it was consistently sitting in the mid to high 500s now it is saying upwards of 2.0p... Yes I am new just getting some gekko 2pacs set up and pointed to the pool so sorry if this is a stupid question.

Also, is there any reason solo ckpool has more people other than the possibility of more reward? I see they have solved quite a few blocks...

ok. so got my first 2pac stick. using a sabrent 4 port 3.0 hub with power supply .
i had the miner working  and it was never at the hash rate of 15gh/s always below and very sparatic like 40mh/s to 3-9gh/s only hit 9 gh/s a few times. my computer had done an update over night while it was mining... well long story short it quit working... did i do some thing on my end? is my hub not strong enough or maybe its over powered? now cgminer displays gsd 0: found 7:3
gsd 0: tx:4 00 00 11
gsd 0: rx bytes(0):
device serial gs- 10016325 not responding
any helpful tips or did i break it lol
Oh just for the record.... on slushpool mining with the single 2pac i found 161k shares... have not seen anyone above or near that... what you think? lol
windows 7 ck built cgminer
no idea how to write code

Sounds like some of the problems I was having just a few days ago setting mine up for the first time. I ordered this based on advice on the previous page-

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00L2LK164/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Should be able to run 3-4 sticks on it plus one on the cheap POS I currently have (max one @125)

@tarrantula + DKirk:
I think both of your prolems may be an issue with the USB Power.

@DKirk:
The standard frequency is 100MHz. Try that with both Sticks. Or maybe test it with 50MHz.

For two sticks on higher frequencies I would reccomend an USB hub with a 30W supply. I got one and it works fine with 200MHz. And Iīm just at 25W input power. And not to forget the cooling with frequencies higher than 100MHz.

@tarrantula:
I think the network traffic is not thath high, that it would matter. But I didnīt measure that yet.

At least it looks like I'm going down the right track. I have a fan so that is taken care of but now it looks like I need a new hub as suspected. I know Eyeboot hubs seem to be the gold standard around here, but at this point with 2 sticks and a fan it seems kind of stupid to spend $200ish on getting one set up. Just to make sure, is this more like what I should have-

https://www.amazon.com/Anker-14-Port-Aluminum-Transfer-Charging/dp/B00GSLMTQ8/ref=sr_1_10?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1510406687&sr=1-10&keywords=Anker+USB+hub

Anker does not work with Rasp pi, plus too many ports for just 60W.

the following does work on pi:
https://www.amazon.com/Plugable-Charging-Adapter-Support-Android/dp/B00L2LK164/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1510423460&sr=8-3

this one is the best (works on everything, including pi), but currently listed as unavailable:
https://www.amazon.com/Superbpag-Portable-Charger-Transfer-Samsung/dp/B013OK10YM/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8

Thank you for the clarification. I will probably order the Plugable then instead of waiting around for the other one. It sucks only having one stick run at 11 GH/s while the other sits idle. I'm still not 100% sure how to calculate how many sticks can go to any given hub, but I'm guessing either one of those should have no problem with 2 or 3 running at 100 or slightly more.

three for sure; if you want to seriously overclock, i suggest to get some Y-cables.

How would I setup the Y cables with my two hubs should I wish to overclock? I know it's a stupid question, but for some reason I'm not quite picturing how it goes together in my head.

Yes, I think that should do it for up to four sticks. I calculate 15W per stick. Or at least it was written in the article description on ebay for maximum power consumption.
My fan is this one:
https://smile.amazon.de/ARCTIC-Breeze-Mobile-USB-Ventilator/dp/B003XN24GY/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1510416862&sr=8-2&keywords=arctic+breeze
It has 5V 0,2A. So itīs not that relevant. And the heat sinks are not even hot.

Cool, thanks for the help. That's the same fan I got seems to be popular and can't beat the price.

I was able to connect to ckpool but have been troubleshooting some minor issues with one of my sticks going zombie and tried messing around with power settings. Now I keep getting a "failed authorization" message. Any idea what I did wrong and what I can do to fix it?
58  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience 2Pac BM1384 Stickminer Official Support Thread on: November 11, 2017, 02:15:53 AM
Hello everyone

Decided recently I would try to mine bitcoin more as a hobby than anything. Got a Raspberry Pi, a USB Hub, and two 2pacs. Just got everything put together using the instructions on page one and many hours on here+youtube.

I have only been able to run one stick consistently at any one time, at first there were times none would run, or both would then one would go zombie. Tried disconnecting/connecting both multiple times and rebooting the Pi then just dialed one down to 125 and it seems to be holding. My guess is I have a power issue since I can hear my USB fan dial down when I turn both on. I am determined to get both those damn sticks working since I paid good money for 'em.

If it makes any difference, when I run cgminer I type-
./cgminer -o stratum+tcp://pool.ckpool.org:443 -u 1D35tdany3akgpDKBN7WPVCuAgpbsohziQ -p x --suggest-diff 32 --gekko-2pac-freq 125

Any feedback/help would be welcome. In a way I feel like getting this far from knowing zero one week ago isn't too bad.

Thanks

Buy/hold. Considering Bitcoin's volatility, I would just assume it will all be gone but hope for the best. To me it's more like art than a core investment.
60  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Newbie-needs help and advice on: November 10, 2017, 02:18:16 PM
I just started figuring all this out a week ago and am still putting together the pieces. The easiest way to put a rig together without spending crazy amounts of money is to-

1. Raspberry Pi ($70)
2. USB Hub ($10-$20)
3. USB powered fan ($10)
4. ASIC miners, I ordered 2 Gekkoscience 2Pacs ($80ish each) but as far as I know you can get more so long as the USB hub can support them

I won't make much of anything with that setup, but I'm doing it more as a science project than anything... The good thing is the skills learned can be applied to future ventures.

Setup is pretty simple and there are tons of videos on youtube of how to set everything up. Currently, I have everything configured and cgminer (one of the programs used to mine) loaded up. Just need the 2pacs to finish up. There are support threads on here for the 2pacs and cgminer where research can be done and questions directed.

I'm not sure how good you are with computers in general, but even if you are somewhat savvy plan to spend multiple hours learning about everything.

Hope that answers at least some of your questions.

Cannot have the general home PC in mining purposes dude. I have inbuilt Graphics card nvidia 750 in it and tried to mine bitcoin with the nice hash miner but the mining speed is very slow with the personal computer but one of friend bought rig with the 6 cards it gives decent hash rate mine the coins.
As you said Youtube videos will give the better information since you do not know person in your location who can teach about the bitcoin.

My understanding is you don't need some crazy powerful computer to hook the ASIC miners into in order to start mining. Not sure if you were just making a generic comment or misunderstood what I wrote. Granted, a rig like the one I am building is probably not going to make tons of money, but it is certainly not mining with a basic home computer CPU/graphics card. As far as I have been able to find using ASIC miners with a Pi is a good way to learn about mining without spending these asinine amounts of money for Antminers on ebay.
