Where are the devs ? Can i help you ?
At this point 8-bit-Party is the dev, but seems to be somewhat busy with real life at the moment... And, correct me if I'm wrong anyone, but I believe he'd welcome some qualified help if someone should show legitimate interest.

Just the Windows and Mac installers, ideally the latest bootstrap file too... I'm just going to put them upon my we server... Maybe we can get 8-bit-Party to update the links on the coin's website.

Where are new comers downloading the wallet? That should be super important!
Agreed! Thus why I'm offering to host it.

Looking forward to it, and thanks in advance! Hello, yes I have MAC & Win binaries archived somewhere, need to find them first.

Hey, Sooooo, as we have some interest in 8bit again, and there is seriously good reason for interest in this coin and it's potential. Sooo, I'm doing what I can to help. While I'm looking forward to providing downloads for the Mac and Windows versions soon, I can provide some help in compiling a Linux version now.... These steps have been tested to work for Debian and Ubuntu. Again... !!!WARNING!!! Compile at your own risk, don't put real amounts of money into this until you're sure it works! I make no guarantees of any kind!!- mkdir <directory you want this to live in>
- cd <that directory>
- sudo apt-get install build-essential libssl-dev libdb++-dev libboost-all-dev libqrencode-dev libminiupnpc-dev
- git clone https://github.com/bitcoin/secp256k1.git
- cd secp256k1
- git checkout a1d5ae1
- ./autogen.sh
- ./configure
- make
- sudo make install
- sudo ldconfig
- cd ..
- git clone https://github.com/8bit-dev/8bit
- cd 8bit/src/
- mkdir obj/crypto
- make -f makefile.unix -j2
- strip -s 8bitd
- mv 8bitd <where ever you want it to live>
- mkdir ~/.8bit
- mv boostrap.dat ~/.8bit
AGAIN... I make no guarantees this works... ever. Evar!!! But, if you're aching to run a wallet, and you've got some *NIX skills, you can get up and running now!

Sooo, I can't provide a Windows or Mac binary, not my thing really... But, I can provide hosting for them if someone can provide them (hello 8-bit-Party, you there?) Also, if there's interest, I can also provide step by step instructions on how to build a Linux wallet from source.
|
|
|
I'm sorry for the delay folks... But, the 8bit faucet is back on the air! It literally took a solid week to sync the blockchain. (we really need to start working on this) Please, come and get your free 8bit!!
Also, never did get a response about hosting the windows and mac wallet downloads... Any interest there? I can't help but think providing these binaries to new users can't be anything but good... Let me know.

I can't download it from http://www.8-bit.party/Dropbox Error (429) This account's links are generating too much traffic and have been temporarily disabled! These are original links from ANN. Try again later, eventually we will provide a mirror. As I've only ever started with the source code and ran it on Linux I don't have those files. But, if someone wants to send me those precompiled Windoze and Mac files I'll be happy to throw them on my VPS where I'm hosting the 8bit faucet anyway.

Is this coin considering re-branding? It might get more attention and a finally a rise in price.
Myself and others certainly have some ideas for the future of this coin... And with the love for retro gaming out there, I think there's certainly room for the current branding out there. That said, a new wallet update, and some partnerships with that gaming world would certainly go a long way to grow the price. But hey, no one has this perfectly... If you've got a great idea for the direction of this adventure, let's hear it... Maybe there's something we're not considering! wallet please! Sorry, what is it you're looking for? The wallet is available for download at www.8-bit.party. Was there something specific we can help you with?

-salvagewallet worked wonderfully! Thank you!

Sorry folks, but the faucet is offline again for a day or three... The machine was DDoS'd by some script kiddies who stumbled onto a weakness in the version of apache I WAS using, and the whole damn thing crashed... Annnnnd, the wallet powering the faucet was corrupted in the process... Ugh. That said, I'm generally good about backups and such, and thus no funds or anything were lost. But, once again, even with the bootstrap file, it's going to be a little bit before the blockchain is reloaded. I've written a better backup script, so now if needs be, I can restore the blockchain much faster, but, alas this recent adventure has beaten me to implementing it. Now that we're all past that... I have a question for you all, I feel stupid for asking this one, but I guess this just hasn't come up for me as of yet. So, I decided to pull the profits from a masternode to my staking node (this is all my personal stuff, not the faucet), that went fine... But, after rebuilding the masternode, and attempting to send 112 8bit back to it from the staking node, it failed twice with the following entries in the log. CommitTransaction() : Error: Transaction not valid After restarting the staking node, I tried a third time, and it sent just fine, and ONLY the expected 112 8bit arrived at the masternode. So, all seemed to be well... Until I noticed my staking node's total balance was down 336 8bit instead of the expected 112. Is there a timeout of sorts at which point I might expect my coins that failed to send to be returned? Are my coins gone? I'd hate to think it's possible to lose money by attempting to transfer 8bit between two wallets I own...

Thanks for your donations and patience folks! Soooo, after taking several days to resync the wallet powering the 8bit faucet, we are back on the air!! There are going to be some improvements and effort put into this little project, but don't hesitate to claim your free $8bit now!! 8bit.netspecto.com

Hiya folks, sorry I've been gone a while, busy with my job/USD work as of late... But, hey I'm still running wallets (masternodes and staking) here too, 24/7...
A couple of things though...
1. It seems folks have been scripting requests to the faucet, which has seriously outpaced the earnings from the underlying wallet staking for a while... So, now the faucet's balance is 0 8bit... So, it's dead... If the community at large see's the faucet as valuable, we're going to need to get some donations going to the faucet... That said, let's discuss this a bit before anyone jumps into donations for the wallet, as some new script-proof code would be a good idea before we relaunch things.
2. I still don't code C for shit, but I'm more than happy to help with the efforts to relaunch the wallet with new code. 18 years designing and building UNIX/Linux networks has given me some valuable skills. So, assuming there's interest, I'm more than happy to apply those IT and project management skills to the 8bit ecosystem in any way I can.
As recently said here, this is an absolute gem of an altcoin. The potential here is still absolutely amazing, it just requires a realistic amount of work behind the scenes to get things rolling again... Is there any interest in getting the real players here together (slack, irc, zoom, whatever!) and hammering out a road-map, goals, accountability/rewards, and timelines to get this all back on-track? Bueller?

I disappear for a few weeks to pay attention to my day-job, and holy crap! Look at all this activity... good and bad. So, as I'm catching up here... wow. Sooo, I've seen some interest in my script to automatically roll one's masternode profits to a staking node... And I'll totally make that available, but give me a day or so to get my stuff together considering the fork and such... For anyone who has been chomping at the bit for the script, bear in mind, this only runs on Linux, and makes some assumptions as to where your wallet's datadir's are located vs. the 8bitd executable... I'll write up something to explain along with the posting... Aside for answering that request, is there anything I can do to help folks? Bueller? Bueller?

skidog, thank you!
Anyone else? Anyone here have coding, web design, mobile app building experience, gaming contacts, business contacts, etc, etc? And a need to see this thing we call 8bit explode into tons of wealth?! I may be a stakeholder here, and I am... But, there really is plenty of value here if we can all just get this ball rolling...

Who did not withdraw his 8bits from Cryptsy?
i got some stuck on crypsty 98.34480000 8BIT Yes 2015-08-02 12:52:38 not much but would still like them.. talked to mullick he said he would resend then lock wallet ... i think he just locked the wallet and didnt resend Any thoughts on the next phase of 8 bit..... Anything? I second this!! I'm still around, still masternoding, staking, and running the faucet... I'd love to see some planning, I'd love to either get our dev working on something, or find someone who has the time to take over. (And, 8-bit-party, I'm not ripping on you there, if you've got the time/motivation, let's rock this! Nothing but love/respect for ya...) I'd love to be discussing new features, new directions, new partnerships in the gaming community, and a new plan with motivated folks in this community... The holidays are well over, it's a new year, and we still have quite the opportunity with this coin if we choose to take it. Soooo, I'm suggesting this, either here, PM, email ( zuck@netspecto.com), whatever we decide we're comfortable with... Let's get a clear picture of who our leadership and stakeholders in the community are, and start a regular actual meeting... Early on, I'd like to determine the following: - Obviously, who our current players are, and in what rolls
- what we each have to offer as far as time/effort
- what connections we might be able to bring on-board to aid in this endeavour, and at what cost
- start roadmapping specific goals and milestones
- timeframes we can absolutely BOTH commit to and live with for those goals
I've seen this community accomplish great things in the past, AND I believe there is still amazing potential here. If we can pull ourselves together as a community once again, and really commit to some organization, time, and effort, the potential here is absolutely amazing! Anyone with me? Want to start hammering on this on the regular, and see if we can't build something great, making ourselves rich along the way?? Let's start with a means of communication... Who's in? and how do we want to meet? (as in what medium, I don't care if it's hangouts, skype, IRC, or telegram!!)

Who did not withdraw his 8bits from Cryptsy?
I lost like 300 when they closed the 8bit wallet in the first place a few months ago... Ran a deposit the night before, it never showed up, they locked the wallet, and basically ignored my support requests... I liked cryptsy too. Bastards. ;p
