44  Local / Hardware y Minería / Re: APW7 para Antminer S9k on: December 25, 2019, 09:11:50 AM

800w / 120Vac = 6.66A
1800w / 220Vac = 8.18A

read my post to have an idea about solar mining.

it depends on how much you want to invest, and how many miners you will be using.
consider the space that you have too.

46  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Monacoin Hash Rate Has Gone Wayyyyy Up on: December 25, 2019, 06:14:01 AM
The network hashrate and the difficulty seem to have rocketed by at least 30% in the last dozen hours and according to https://miningpoolstats.stream/monacoin, 46.1% or the total hashrate is from unknown source. Any guess on what's happening xD?

I can't believe that this coin still exists. I think I remember mining it back in 2014, it used the same algo as Litecoin years ago and maybe they switched algos to something else. Had to check Coinmarketcap and "yes" the coin still exists.

Looks like it had a marketcap of $1 billion once during the Q4 2017 time and its been declining ever since.

My guess is that maybe someone wants to rent hashrate to gain some Mona instead of buying it on an exchange due to poor liquidity. So most likely someone might be mining it for the next few days/weeks and then it might get pumped on the exchange.

Either that or its the most profitable coin to mine with that algo since many miners are switching away from ETH.

you are outdated. Monacoin is a coin from Japan, they created this coin because they believe the potential of Crypto.
some companies pay partial salary with it because in some convenience store accept it.

Monacoin is the most profitable coin on Lyra2rev2, it is ASIC compatible and never saw some hardfork news.

little too early to say about the hashrate increase, i would see after this week.

I was working for a tech company.

would be interesting to see RDNA2 but GPU minig is dead; Crypto talk could bring some surprise, as CES is for innovation.
anyway... I always check www.engadget.com for new tech

I was actually checking this out yesterday, seems pretty cool so I might have to check it out since I will be in the area. Are you going? (Would be my first time)

I used to go twice a year because of work, now that I changed my job, not going any more  Sad
1st time in vegas or 1st time in CES???
CES is a very nice place to see new technologies, and I like it.
Vegas is a nice place to entertain (besides of gambling)

51  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / What you need to know about solar mining on: December 13, 2019, 10:12:25 AM
Hi guys, I saw a lot of post related with solar mining and seems that most of the people have no clue about it.

Below you have a post with full explanation with details, if you want to avoid reading and save time and know if I recommend it or not, I say NO unless you want to do a big scale investing lot of money for long term.

You have too many details to consider before proceeding...

Country
- In which country you are?
- How many hours of sun you have? Consider the weather in 4 seasons.
- Windy or not windy? Might be a good idea to switch from solar to wind generator
- Hurricane, typhoon, earthquake, tsunami, etc.

Establishment
- What kind of establishment you have? House, apartment, penthouse, countryside, etc.
- In your house do you have mono-phasic or tri-phasic?
- In apartment you have 220Vac for sure, but how about the space for the panels? Wind generator might be a good choice.
- If you are in a countryside, this would be easier in all aspect.

Consumption
It is very important to calculate VAC / WATT / AMP, you will need this select the ideal inverter.
Before selecting the inverter’s capacity, you will have to calculate the total consumption of your miner.

Commonly the PSU has PF 0.9 so you have efficiency loss between 10~20% (it depends of the efficiency of your PSU). Below you have a link for the 80 plus category types which explains how it works…

https://www.velocitymicro.com/blog/what-is-psu-efficiency-and-why-is-it-important/

Now let’s put an example on how to calculate, let’s say we have 15% of loss and we have 85% efficiency.
1500w % 0.85 = 1764.7 watts will be consuming
To calculate the monthly electric fee would be like this…

1764,7watts x 24 hrs                    : 42352,8watts in a month
42352,8watts %1000 (Wh/kWh)    : 42,35 kWh
42,35 kWh x 30 days                    :  1270.5 kWh
1270.5 kWh x $0,11 electric fee     : $139,75 USD in a month

This is not the only part that you have to calculate, careful when you buying a high frequency inverter that I will explain later.

Inverters
In the market you have 3 kinds of inverters and I give a simple explanation...

*Grid – Cheap with fast ROI, sell what you produced while not using. No batteries option.

*Off-Grid – have batteries option, generator compatible but you can’t sell what you produced. This kind of inverter are more expensive.

*Hybrid – too advance and too expensive, all options are available except the generator.

In this case the most suitable inverter is Grid-Tied, when buying 1 of this make sure of the other points to consider…
* You will find it with high or low frequency. High frequency has many small transformers which will make to have loss of efficiency, also the design make it to have less life span (not related with component’s quality).
Now for the low frequency, it’s made with a big transformer that will give you better efficiency with a better life span.

This is the other efficiency that I was mentioning on the PSU from above, consider the inverter as a PSU, “works the same” but with more features.
You can make the same calculation for the efficiency, but this is for the output from the inverter, for the solar panels will give what it produce.

Example… 1500watts from solar panel for an inverter of 1500w, the output of the inverter is 1275w while it’s consuming 1500w. (15% of loss)
DC to DC is a part without problem, but DC to AC has loss of efficiency because of conversion.

* Make sure to buy one with pure sine wave, this will give a good “electric” quality to your miner, others like modified & square wave form will damage your miner in short term.

* PWM vs MPPT (solar charger). PWM is cheap and good for small system, not good with high temperature and is prompt to brake sooner than MPPT.
MPPT has higher charging capacity and matches big quantity of batteries, it is more durable but more expensive.
Nowadays the charger can be included inside or optional to install.

* Find out if you have single phase or three phase in your place, this will have to match the inverter for the whole installation.

Solar Panel (AKA solar module in commercial terms)
Most commercial types are Monocrystaline, Polycristaline & Bifacial. The suitable is Monocrystaline that has high efficiency & performance, also is not sensitive to high temperature.
Don’t buy cheap quality or you will have an incident like the case of Walmart suing Tesla. Remember this… cheap is expensive, expensive is cheap.

In case to opt wind generator, the same, safety first. Get one with some kind of protection like overcharging, overheat, etc… windy day will make the fins to spin faster, without protection will produce fire.

Battery
Forget about it, you will be wasting tons of money for many reasons. Let’s put like this…
A small USP of 600w with a battery of 9Ah (small battery) will give you around 2’ of backup time on a PC of 400w. Now I ask you, how many inverter’s battery you need to backup 14hrs without sun? (Inverter’s battery are like cars, depending the type).
From the other hand, every 1.5 years you will have to change.

Investment calculation
Run the profit & investment calculation to see how long it will take for ROI, I think I don’t have to explain this part.
Inverter’s warranty has 3 years approx. could last around 5 years depending of the brand and quality. About solar panels life span, this could last in your life with a good quality. Wind generator have no idea.

At the moment this is all, any questions I will reply when I can.

 Good luck in your project.

52  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: PSU efficiency calculation on: November 30, 2019, 04:28:37 PM
Is this PSU really that efficient?

95% at 50% load is titanium+ category.

Has anyone meassured it themself?

Seems like a really good deal.

the efficiency in that specs is not real, i asked bitmain about an APW7 with a B7, they told me that i can consider 80% at 100%
so on 220Vac at 100% the efficiency might be 85%
53  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: PSU efficiency calculation on: November 29, 2019, 01:09:54 AM
With a consumption of 1500W you're looking at I = 1500W / 12V = 125A which according to the table is at an efficiency of ~94%

This means that with the miner you mentioned you'll look at a power draw of roughly 1500W / 0.94 = 1595.74W

Looking at the chart the PSU's peak efficiency is 95% at 60A * 12V = 720W

This is assuming an input voltage of 200-240V as per the Bitmain chart.

54  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / PSU efficiency calculation on: November 27, 2019, 02:28:33 PM
my questions is, how to calculate the final watt consumption???

many people use the APW7 which has...
220V Output: 150A / 1800w
120V Output: 67A / 800w
PF 0.99 (almost perfect)
https://shop.bitmain.com/product/detail?pid=000201809111802447941Bf38AO30604

below the specs on that page there are 2 charts, 1 it says the efficiency which shows 93% at 150A; this means full load on 220v with 7% loss.
now the Zig Z1 Pro consumes 1500w, so... how to calculate this part? which one is correct???

1800w -7% = 1674 watts
or
1500w / 0.93% = 1612 watts

from the other hand, this is something similar with the PC PSU

56  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Dayun Zig Z1 - Lyra2Rev2 6.8GH/s Asic miner on: November 13, 2019, 09:38:32 AM
Anybody know of a smart plug that can be used with this asic for 240v?  This way it can be turned on and off remotely.

I'm using

https://www.tp-link.com/uk/home-networking/smart-plug/hs110/

Is that European?  I am in the US.  I have the plug with two horizontal prongs

i thought on that plug too, but i retracted because of some reviews in amazon.
is not recommended to use it as it is not for industrial application, could cause fire in time.

my ASIC is with 220v and melt 1 of my common adapter, then i changed the AC cable and all good to go. so imagine what could happen with that plug, let us know if something happens.
57  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Dayun Zig Z1 - Lyra2Rev2 6.8GH/s Asic miner on: November 08, 2019, 08:23:15 AM
Is it normal for this hash to go down to zero and back up again then every so often or should it remain consistent?

it depends in which pool you are mining, also the temperature it has the ASIC

if you mine in nicehash, you will get constant "equal" hash because you are selling it.
if you mine in other pools, then the hash will throttle less or high depending in which pool.
it throttle when it's mining another coin (when changing to another coin) also it depends of the difficulty at the moment.

the ASIC has a temperature protection, so if reach at a certain number, then will reboot.

Hi! sorry for the long wait, we have finalized the terms with Crowdsupply and plan to launch the campaign in the coming Monday/Tuesday!
The campaign page will be updated with loads of useful information once the campaign starts officially, please sign up for updates if you haven't already. I also attached a preview of the mining performance table, all the algorithms will be provided free of charge and 0 dev fee. at the end of the campaign we will open source the algorithm design.

https://www.crowdsupply.com/agilmine/ultraminer-fpga

any chance to make a video showing the numbers & performance? (a very clear 1 on the whole set running & mining)

starting to get the funds it means you have 90% ready, also the amount is not small.

from today to march is a long way to go in this market, many changes can happen.

Tbh it's been pretty hard to get them looked at as the hosting facility is pretty busy at the moment. I've asked for my pool to be switched to MRR so I can test my luck on some other pools when the hash isn't being rented.
...

Let them install our non-SSH hub (check this video) for you so you can manage them by yourself.
Also MRR is supported so you could use both.

...
the only hash rental that i know is nicehash.
...

MRR is Mining Rig Rentals.

yea i saw that before, not really sure how it works. i thought on your software too.
