By the time we all make 50 senseless posts we will all be spammers.  Cry

That is why I only make substantive posts of a high quality.
Lmfao, thank you. Funniest post of the night so far Smiley

care to elaborate?
42  Other / Meta / Re: The sensible way to cut down on forum spam.... on: June 12, 2011, 05:53:39 AM
The real problem with the forum spam is SIMPLE : It's too easy to create accounts.

Just implement Captcha verification along with Email verification in order to register new accounts.

And force captchas for every post / pm until you hit X posts.

This board has 19694 total members.

You know how many currently have 50+ posts?   Around 650.

I'm quite surprised at how poorly your 'forum spam' issues are being handled especially by people who are supposed to be technically adept.

i have been mostly hanging out in the mining forum and do not recall seeing a spam problem.
either the mods were really good at their job, the spammers did not frequent it, or there was no spam problem.
i just do not know.

interesting. maybe alot more sub groups would be useful so that trolls would not get all the attention they get by posting in the almighty general discussion forum.

there is a 100% uncensored discussion of the current censorship situation we find ourselves in taking place here:

You know, that could very well be the guy who just unloaded the massive amount that caused all the panic. That is exactly what i would do if i held enough coin to influence the market so much. sell tons high, drive prices low, people panic which drives prices lower, then you buy back in at the new low rates with massive profit. Granted, this would not work if people had bought into the system because they love the ideology of bitcoin rather than buying in because they love the idea of themselves getting rich fast, because then they would not have sold out of fear as it dipped.

If what you're saying were true, that person would have to be either really dumb (to sell high and buy low, hoping the market would climb back high enough and stay there long enough for him to recoup his losses AND make a profit on top of that), or really confident that he could manipulate it into going back up to take his profit.

I'd lean towards the former.

Um.. I think you got it backwards. sell high, buy low = profit   sell low, buy high = loss

think about it this way, if you have 1 btc and you sell it at 30 usd, then you buy 1 btc at 10 usd you still have a btc plus 20 dollars profit, get it?

Also, trolls can just spam to 50 posts.

Exactly. That is why what is and isn't shown should be left up to individual posts and the community which reads them. I think a +/- where only posters with a high peer rating can vote may work. The banning of users could even be done on a peer basis. Central censorship is terrifying.
48  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Newbie restrictions (Please discuss forum policy here.) on: June 12, 2011, 04:59:42 AM
Limiting expression is not our style.  This was put in place due to an influx of trolls and scammers as a direct result of the media attention and the army of co-ops who think that the rest of us don't know that they work for Chuch Schumter.  All of these accounts have less than 50 posts, and we know that to can be messed with.  This is only a temporary measure.  Please stay tuned.

Thank you for this post. I hope you are able to devise a system that allows for a constructive discourse between veterans and the 99.99999% of other people in the planet, as opposed to the limited incestuous discourse which is unfortunately now deemed necessary.

What is wrong with a +/- system that allows the experienced users vote crappy posts out of existence as opposed to leaving an entire forum up to the mood of the mod that happens to be on duty?
49  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Newbie restrictions (Please discuss forum policy here.) on: June 12, 2011, 04:52:19 AM
It is a very stylish forum with lots of features that this one lacks, but true, not many users yet. however I can definitely see it becoming the new hot spot considering the new set of censorship laws put in place over here.
50  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Newbie restrictions (Please discuss forum policy here.) on: June 12, 2011, 04:40:57 AM
bitcoinforums.net has a better interface and doesn't ban people based on their opinions. It just doesn't have alot of users yet. It even has a chat room  Smiley
51  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Newbie restrictions (Please discuss forum policy here.) on: June 12, 2011, 04:32:51 AM
This is much more than an attempt to keep trolls to a minimum, It is an attempt to keep anything out that disagrees with the whim of the current mod on duty. It is ironic to see this happen at a forum about an open-source program. I'm not saying the troll issue should not be dealt with, but a simple +/- system where too many minuses ends your thread or at least moves it to junk would suffice. what we are seeing is this - mods think trolls caused decline, mods obviously want btc to go up, mods begin censoring in hopes btc will go back up. however, artificial manipulation of the markets will not work long run. go ahead and delete this now if you must, if one person sees it is was worth it.

Yours truly,

now when i am out in my costume i must specifically add to my explanation that i highly do not recomend forum.bitcoin.org as they only allow opinions 100% in alignment with its mods.
52  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Newbie restrictions (Please discuss forum policy here.) on: June 12, 2011, 04:20:47 AM
the topic is say things the mods want to hear or get your account deleted, I have had one already taken down and this one is surely next, it is a shame considering all the time and energy i have put into studying bitcoin economics the past 5 months as well as the time i have put into making these bitcoin youtubes:

http://www.youtube.com/user/bitcoinewbie

enjoy Smiley if you are lucky enough to see this before it gets taken down.. lol. actually, this isn't funny it seriously is very disheartening.

I created the first bitcoin costume, have introduced countless people to bitcoin and i know for a fact some have gone on to invest, and yet my voice is silenced here.

I was watching it earlier and the similarities are striking. They mention how it grew from just a new technology into a religious-like crusade.

The only major difference is the creators had faces then...
58  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The BitCoin Rapper on: June 05, 2011, 06:15:51 AM
