41  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XPM] [ANN] Primecoin High Performance on: August 03, 2013, 01:08:13 PM
Thanks for the update! I have the miner set up and am currently getting the following with hp9 on my 3930k:

09:06:41

{
"blocks" : 95165,
"chainspermin" : 12,
"chainsperday" : 1.41151548,
"currentblocksize" : 1000,
"currentblocktx" : 0,
"difficulty" : 9.21685755,
"errors" : "",
"generate" : true,
"genproclimit" : -1,
"roundsievepercentage" : 70,
"primespersec" : 2875,
"pooledtx" : 0,
"sievepercentage" : 10,
"sievesize" : 1000000,
"testnet" : false
}

Does this look normal? I honestly don't know what kind of rates to expect after updates.

It's can't be my faul, coz I use recomended software from owner. So it's steal my ~200 XPM. It's all...

He or who think it's not fair, can correct this in any time with sending me any compensation here: AYt9xqb8vCDEQoL6W1hKxJmLwwQ6BvjFA6

Thanks in advance!

There is never a guarantee that you will get a block. Mining is mostly luck and you can get a block at any time on any computer. At the same time you can be really unlucky and not get any blocks. I started mining and in the first few days I didn't get anything. I suddenly got a block each day for three days on my desktop and haven't gotten any blocks on it in the last week. Nobody is at fault here - how is it a scam if you don't get any blocks? It all comes down to how lucky or unlucky you are - if you are lucky you can get several blocks a day on a bottom of the line cpu and if you are unlucky you could end  up getting nothing for over a month. It just sounds like you have either been unlucky or made a small mistake in your configuration somewhere along the way. We all could get mad if we aren't getting blocks but it doesn't do anything for us - no matter how mad we get it doesn't change that we are all playing a game of chance by mining and nobody has a guaranteed return even if they mine a block.

There is an opencl one in the works and a cuda one. The cuda one seems to be a dead project while the opencl one apparently is nearly done. The opencl thread can be found below.

Cryptsy is a useful exchange that allows people to exchange some popular altcoins for bitcoin. They also are having a promotion with no primecoin trading fees until the fourth. From my experience it takes about 10 block confirmations for your primecoins to be ready to be sold and coins can be withdrawn fairly easily with a relatively small fee there.

mikaelh has made a very nice high performance primecoin client that is very good if you don't feel like mining in a pool right now

Apparently primecoin has set a few records already for finding new primes of varying lengths. There is a thread about it here:

Primecoin now apparently has a wikipedia article! We need to work on and expand this to make it better and more comprehensive.

45  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [XPM] Working on a GPU miner for Primecoin on: July 30, 2013, 07:38:13 AM
So after you give out round 1 to beta testers are you going to release early to others who donate after?

I don't think its too crazy to ask for some results before we donate.  I bet there are lots of people on the fence with donations ready once some proof of work and or results can be seen.

He just posted some results on the other page...

Where? I don't see any testing data any where in this thread?

While it isn't concrete data he said that the performance of his 6990 and phenom II x6 together were equal to the cpu performance alone. The fact that it's working with part being done on the gpu is a result in itself. As he said, it has yet to be optimized and he hopes to have it run twice as fast. All we can do is be patient and wait to see what works.
46  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [XPM] Working on a GPU miner for Primecoin on: July 30, 2013, 02:28:36 AM
Okay, the first GPU-enabled version is ready. Right now it only does the sieving on the GPU. Primality tests are still done on the CPU. The code hasn't been optimized at all yet; the performance is equivalent (+- a few %) on these setups:
1) Phenom x6 1055T, all 6 cores
2) Phenom x6 1055T, all 6 cores, plus a HD6990 using both cores

I don't think the current version is worth releasing. It still needs a bit of work, I want it to be twice as fast. I estimate there is room for a five-fold improvement, especially when I get the primality tests done on the GPU as well.

Tomorrow I will do tests using a slow CPU with lots of GPU power (Sempron 140 with 2x6990).

That's better than I expected - don't most projects like this have worse performance when they first start working than the equivalent? I remember valve talking about optimizing left 4 dead for linux and saying they were getting 2-3 fps on linux when it first started running compared to 200 fps on the same machine in windows.

Maybe it would help to have someone test this on a machine with an intel processor too - sometimes the proc brand can make a pretty big difference even when two procs are equivalent in performance overall.
47  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: PrimeCoin... odds of finding a block on a solo miner... 19 days per CPU. on: July 29, 2013, 11:57:07 PM
Right now the HP8 is the best one to use for mining - it gives higher pps values for the same settings and has a few major bugs fixed. I never managed to get any blocks on the hp5 or hp6 clients due to crashing buts on there - they have been mostly fixed in the hp7/hp8 releases and hp8 rarely crashes.
48  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: PrimeCoin... odds of finding a block on a solo miner... 19 days per CPU. on: July 29, 2013, 09:46:51 PM

XPM is blind luck.

Had an i7 running 6 days with no blocks, then it two in three hours.

~BCX~

Which version of which client were you using? There was a major bug in HP6 and HP7 that made the difficulty effectively 10 rather than 9.2 or 9.3 due to a rounding error that made people much less likely to get any blocks. While it is partially luck better computers tend to get blocks more frequently - The only machines I have gotten multiple blocks on have had 3930ks in them - the older machiens I'm running have at most gotten one block each and a few haven't gotten anything yet. While it is partially luck all of this has a luck factor.
49  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: PrimeCoin... odds of finding a block on a solo miner... 19 days per CPU. on: July 29, 2013, 08:14:51 PM
Are you using the default client from primecoin.org and finding about a block a day with your computers? There's a faster one called HP8 that I'm guessing you're using for that high of a PPS rate

I am mining primecoin on 4 computers right now get a total of about 21k right now. Your 25k is comparable to mine, so I am curious if I will see similar payouts.

Yeah, I'm using HP8 right now. Over the last few days the rate seems to have dropped off as the difficulty was increasing, but the difficulty has been decreased a bit so I might get more blocks now. We might not have much luck though since there are some gpu miners in the works. Honestly I have been using settings lower than the max speeds that I have available over the last few days since with a sievesize of 100k I haven't managed to get any blocks - I only have gotten blocks with a 1m size so far. Once the gpu miner hits we will be getting that 19 days/block quote there though. The difficulty is probably going to explode...

Also I have noticed it's really random when you get blocks - I have one machine that's getting 1k pps and it managed to get a block and one that gets about 4k or 5k hasn't managed to get one yet.
50  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: PrimeCoin... odds of finding a block on a solo miner... 19 days per CPU. on: July 29, 2013, 07:03:35 PM
If you just run the solo mining client, it will find the blocks when mining and just pay your own wallet? Nothing to set up?

All you have to do is set up the primecoin wallet software, click the help drop down, click debug window, click the console tab, and enter "setgenerate true -1" to start mining (you can also replace -1 with the number of cores/threads you actually want to be used for mining). You can check your statistics such as pps/cpm etc from there by using the command "getmininginfo".  When it finds blocks they automatically go into your wallet - no real setup work and it pays directly into the wallet, ready to be spent.
51  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: PrimeCoin... odds of finding a block on a solo miner... 19 days per CPU. on: July 29, 2013, 06:49:05 PM
Never tell me the odds!

My core2 duo 3ghz machine found 3 blocks last week. And just today my core2 duo 2.2ghz laptop found a block (oh yeah, and it found one last week too).

That is partiially because the pool odds and solo miner odds are very different. The pool's mining client apparently isn't nearly as optimized as the hp8 client, making it give a regular payout but one much lower than what you can get solo mining. I have had a few different computers solo mining for the past week with about 25k pps and I have gotten an average of one block per day with it so far. Either way the odds of finding a block solo mining is definitely not 19 days per cpu, it's closer to a block every 2-3 days for a mid to high end cpu.

HP8 crashed twice on Linux and Windows with the same error.

Code:
Assertion failed!
File: scr/checkqueue.h, Line 171
Expression pqueue->nTotal == pqueue->nIdle

Yeah, that's an old bug which is still around unfortunately. It's been there since the first official release of Primecoin. I tried to fix it once already but my attempt failed.
Maybe it's not completely fixed, but my experience since version hp7 is that it runs more stable. In fact I can not remember having a crashed program ever since. I assume it has nothing to do with the time the program is running and it's more related to chance.

If I remember correctly the issue was also partially tied to the number of cores your pc has. My 3930k (6c/12T) crashed on average after about an hour before the most recent updates (Hp7/Hp8) and sometimes as frequently as every 15-20 minutes. I have only had one crash since HP7 and that was a few hours ago. None of my other computers have had any sort of issues so far. While a luck factor might be involved it still might be related to core count. Either way it still is a minor problem now.

It's working fine for me so far. I have six machines currently running hp8 and haven't gotten any crashes yet while in hp5/6 I was getting crashes on my desktop after running the program for about an hour. As far as I can tell the problem has been fixed.

Edit: Scratch that, I just had the error just now. Still, good job fixing it, it happens much less frequently now than it did before.
54  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [XPM] Working on a GPU miner for Primecoin on: July 29, 2013, 02:54:22 AM
Alright, I have written the GPU code for the sieve. It compiles, but I haven't gotten to test it yet. I have to code the OpenCL interface first. I can't really use my existing code since all the other coins are "GPU does all the work", but the Primecoin miner is currently "CPU and GPU work together". The ultimate plan is, of course, to do everything on the GPU, but that's not gonna be the case in the first betas.

Thanks for the update! It's really refreshing to see this much communication when some other bitcoin merchants and individuals barely communicate at all. I know a few people that got money tied up in bitfloor back in april and they went up until about two weeks ago with no updates on when they might see their money again. You on the other hand have been giving regular updates about your work that people aren't even going to pay for when it goes live. I can't wait for this to go live just to see the results and what it means for this new growing cryptocurrency. If I had the BTC to get into the beta I would definitely donate it. With that said, when this gets out of beta I would be happy to support your work by donating the fractions of a bitcoin I have from selling my primecoins.

Gread job so far - I can't wait to see what you have when the beta is released tomorrow!

There's two errors in this text on the site:

"A vast and new way to earn XPM coin's with POOL mining service. 100% Free Setup on us!"

should be

"A fast and new way to earn XPM coins with POOL mining service. 100% Free Setup on us!"

Unless the "vast" was intentional!

1. Very great in size, number, amount, or quantity.
2. Very great in area or extent; immense.
3. Very great in degree or intensity.
Source: http://www.thefreedictionary.com/vast

While that is the definition of the word it is not the correct usage of it. It is primarily used for expressing a large area or a large number of something, not the size of one object or the magnitude. In this case skaffen is right - it should probably changed to a different word even if fast isn't what you meant.

On last bit, I've found one block over the last couple of days and its displaying as immature, 2591 confirms. When does it mature so I can send it to another wallet? Is it at a certain number of confirms?

If you go to transactions and hover your mouse over the dial there it should tell you how many more before it matures. If I remember correctly it's something like 3200 or something in that range.
57  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XPM] [ANN] Primecoin High Performance on: July 27, 2013, 02:23:13 PM
Over the last two days what settings have you guys gotten blocks with? The difficulty keeps rising and I'm not getting any more blocks right now. The only computers that got blocks over the last two days were the two old ones I forgot to change the sievesize from 1m to 100k in the config files - nothing on either of the machines with 3930ks that are mining right now.

Can we answer the same question twice with different answers? Either way here's another:

It's prime time to mine Primecoins from 0.04 BTC/Day!
59  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XPM] [ANN] Primecoin High Performance on: July 26, 2013, 09:09:36 PM

Thanks for sharing that info. Since I haven't found blocks for some time I needed someone to confirm these settings do actually find blocks. The speeds are much higher, but I have no idea if they actually produce blocks faster (if at all). I've used high PPS/CPM as a measure for success simply because it showed success on testnet as an indicator for high BPM's. So finding the highest PPS/CPM on mainnet was my goal.

We need a larger sample though to determine what settings are best. I"m sure someone's finding a lot of blocks with one or both settings we just need to have them confirm their settings. But, I can understand people not sharing successful BPM settings. It's just hard to determine BPM when you have 1 CPU on mainnet to test with.  Embarrassed

So, I'm willing to find the highest PPS/CPM settings if someone (with a lot of rigs) will confirm the BPM's for me/us.

I'll post when I find more blocks but so far the only blocks I have found have been on hp7/hp8 with the 1m sievesize  (three on one 3930k on hp7 and one on each of the lower end ones previously mentioned). I have family members mining on another 3930k/an i7 laptop getting 2k pps/ 5cpm/a phenom II getting 3kpps/5-6cpm and they haven't gotten anything in the two days they have mined - it seems to all come down to luck with this, but the only sievesize we have found blocks on was the 1m setting so far, not the 100k setting. Then again, the 100k setting might be much better and it could be a combination of good/bad luck across the different computers. We really have no way to tell since the testnet isn't reflecting the mainnet right now.

On an unrelated note I got an interesting address when I created one to put in my signature ending with "GodxCD". I am a little amused that I got something with some sort of word in it just by chance.
60  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XPM] [ANN] Primecoin High Performance on: July 26, 2013, 08:46:51 PM
so it's easy to compare configurations.

eh. From my experience, I see no comparison from testnet vs mainnet, unless you reverse everything.

you can find out if you are actually mining blocks, which is good. but the settings that work on testnet usually don't work well at all on mainnet.

for me ... right now, higher settings do well on testnet, while lower settings do better on mainnet.

I wish testnet gave some indication of settings to use, but (due to the difficulty difference?) it doesn't come close.

Right now I'm running into something weird - I set up a few computers in my house mining primecoin on hp8 - half had a sievesize of 100000 and half at 1000000 (I forgot to change a few settings). Since the release of hp8 I have had the two lowest end machines that I am running on each find a block with the 1m sievesize and none of the other machines (much newer/better) have found anything with the 100k sieveesize since the launch of hp8. It's probably a coincidence but it's still strange to see a Phenom 9500 getting 1k pps/2 cpm and a laptop i5 getting 1500 pps/2 cpm each get a block on the 1m sievesize while two 3930ks each getting 10k pps/20cpm get nothing in the same time frame with the 100k sievesize that people are suggesting. To me this is saying that the 1m sievesize is better or the numbers really don't matter in mining right now. What do you guys think?
