41  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Cointerra Mining ASIC coming soon on: October 20, 2013, 10:05:30 PM
2. Without speculating in exact BTC output, it stands to argue that whoever mines with the highest hash-rate/power consumption ratio will see ROI for quite some time as older and less profitable miners leave the network. Of course Diff cannot exponentially increase past what any hardware can profitably mine, as was seen when GPU made CPU mining obsolete and now with ASIC making GPU mining obsolete.

This is true provided the batch "with the highest hash-rate/power consumption ratio" is delivered quickly as a whole, with the batch size being limited to a reasonable quantity.

BFL messed up in this regard in both respects. They delivered their queue slowly, thereby leaving most reward to those at the start of the queue. They also oversold their single batch at two stages of pricing, knowing that those at the end of the queue would never see a return.

Your statement may prove true for some of your customers, but can you guarantee it for all?

It is our belief that offering high hash-rate at lowest possible power consumption will be profitable until 3rd Gen ASIC, due to the fact that at a certain point only the miners with the lowest power consumption per GH/s will be able to provide ROI.

Thus less profitable miners will to a large extent stop mining and difficulty will adjust to a point where just as it was true for CPU/GPU and soon Gen 1 ASIC profitability will be assured only with the latest generation of ASIC miners.

Since the TerraMiner series will lead the Gen 2 ASIC technology race when it comes to hash power per kW/h we believe our customers will enjoy ROI for quite some time.

So what's the deal:

1. Is this company legit?
2. What do you suspect the BTC mining output will be for the DEC/JAN shipments?

I'm thinking the opinions are pretty wishy washy.

1. We are very much 'legit' and have an office in Austin as listed on our website. We have recently had several people drop by our office to say hello and meet our team.

Any updates on this?  If they don't tape out soon there's no way the December units are going to ROI.  What's with the complete lack of updates?

The mock-tape out is already made and we will be taping out shortly. Everyone can expect reports closer together in the near future as we get closer to chip production and other major events. We are still very much on track for our presented delivery time.

CoinTerra has raised $1.5 million from investors to fund development costs and an initial production run.

I guess they didn't learn from BFL's ordeal. Their stated business address is in Texas, anyone have any idea where their business is registered so I can file a complaint with the attorney general of that state? It's probably nevada, delaware or something along those lines. Buyer beware, all of their talk about having investor money to cover tape out and product creation must have been pure BS. I guess it really just depends on what the definition of the word "investor" is. If by "investor" they mean "customer".

Dear senseless: On behalf of CoinTerra I would like to apologize for the misunderstanding and immediately correct this statement. This answer was supplied by a customer service intern that was not fully briefed on our refund and warranty policies. Will will be contacting you immediately to resolve the issue.

Thank you for bringing this to our attention.

45  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: CoolIT Systems Selected by CoinTerra® to Partner for Liquid Cooling Solution on: September 27, 2013, 04:35:47 AM
Interesting it seems the chip will need the best cooling option possible.

The chip will consume less than 300w, for a performance of 504 Gh/s. The fact that we have packed so much performance into a single chip dictates we find a great cooling solution as well. About 20% of our chips can run as high as 720 Gh/s at higher clock frequencies. We want to provide a cooling solution which can allow customers to take advantage of these super high hash rates.

Today I was going to buy 2 miners from your company, and discovered that you no longer accepts Credit Card or Paypal!!

Dragonkid,

Due to circumstances outside of our control, we have been forced to suspend accepting payments through PayPal.

I apologize for any inconvenience this is causing you, but we are working on getting an alternate credit card processor as soon as possible.

We are still accepting BitCoin and wire transfer, and since the availability is limited, we encourage our customers to secure payment through one of these methods to ensure your place in queue.

We have recently released a new video demonstrating a working FGPA, as well as additional GoldStrike1 ASIC chip details.

Tape-out due: 1st week of October

If you just got the FPGA to work, how can you complete the back-end trial-run, back-end final-run and functional verification in 1 week?

The Backend process has been going on for weeks. Functional verification is long done.
It is not a serial process. We are taping out 1st week of Oct.

55  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: CoinTerra announces <$3/GH January pricing and new product availability on: September 12, 2013, 05:12:47 PM
Well they mailed first batch customers a coupon for 10% off the 2nd batch orders, except the damned coupon doesn't work at all!!!!
Cointerra, please fix this mess!!!

Hi TesterX,

We've received several orders already from customers using the coupon code, so it is functional.

Please note that the code only works if you use the email address with which you placed your original order, and that it only can be used once on single 2nd batch orders.

Don't hesitate to contact us at support (at) cointerra.com if the issue persists.
56  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: CoinTerra announces its first ASIC - Hash-Rate greater than 500 GH/s on: September 12, 2013, 03:53:18 PM
The sad thing is I don't think it is a scam but the lack of any technical information at all means you would just be buying on faith.  At least competitors provide some technical details.  There is absolutely no details provided.

We have updated our FAQ and product details in the web shop with additional silicon details :-

Global Foundries 28nm HPP
FCBGA Package
1.4GHz clock frequency yielding a minimum of 500 GH/s
0.765V
State-of-the-art Liquid Cooling System
57  Bitcoin / Hardware / CoinTerra announces <$3/GH January pricing and new product availability on: September 12, 2013, 03:51:03 PM
CoinTerra is pleased to announce a new 1 TH/s bitcoin mining product available in the January batch - TerraMiner II available for $3499.

Also available is the TerraMiner IV retailing for $5999 in the January batch - the first mining equipment available anywhere to break the $3 per Gigahash barrier!

Both products feature CoinTerra's 500 GH/s GoldStrike1 chip, which is already the fastest chip announced in the Bitcoin market. Physical Design results for GoldStrike1 show that some of these chips can perform as high as 700 GH/s. At the time of delivery customers may be offered an option to upgrade their TerraMiner for a small charge, further lowering the cost per Gigahash.

We have also announced some additional GoldStrike1 chip specs :-

Global Foundries 28nm HPP
FCBGA Package
1.4GHz clock frequency yielding a minimum of 500 GH/s
0.765V
State-of-the-art Liquid Cooling System
58  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: CoinTerra announces its first ASIC - Hash-Rate greater than 500 GH/s on: September 06, 2013, 04:08:55 PM
It's been mentioned but I think a visual would better illustrate the point.

http://www.tweaktown.com/image.php?image=http://imagescdn.tweaktown.com/content/4/6/4673_03_intel_core_i7_3770k_lga_1155_ivy_bridge_cpu_review_full.png

http://cointerra.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/chip-large.jpg

Isn't this image copyrighted? Why would cointerra choose to use the image of an ivy bridge intel processor as their own? This reflects poorly on the company. Many, such as myself, take this as an indicator to avoid them.

Hi Mokahless and others,

We certainly understand the desire for photographs of our products, but unfortunately, just like our competitors, we cannot provide more than a render or mockup until the actual production has taken place. Our chips will come back from the fab in december, which is when their actual final photographs will be published.
59  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: CoinTerra announces its first ASIC - Hash-Rate greater than 500 GH/s on: September 04, 2013, 06:10:40 PM
Cointerra's shipping prices on their website make no goddamn sense.  Why is it $194 to ship one 27 pound box via UPS ground, but then this skyrockets to $577 for two units?  If it's cheaper to ship them separately then just ship them separately.  Right now you're better off buying the units separately, wtf?

Thanks for bringing this to our attention.

This was an issue with the UPS API that has now been solved. The problem occurred when people placed orders for more than one TerraMiner.

We've gone through our order list to make sure nobody paid too much. We are not flawless, so if you think you may have been overcharged on your order, send us an email and we'll look into it.
