14.04 is the Ubuntu version?

Is anyone running the daemon on a different distro? Am I alone?

Hello again guys,

I'm pretty sure there is a problem with building huntercoind on 14.04, I just noticed this on a new merge mine p2pool guide:

huntercoin - i get error at linking. will look into this as well [update: i see in huntercoin forums that others have issues compiling under 14.04 but there is no solution that I found yet. They say if you compile namecoin you are good to go. We apparently compile namecoin OK but doesn't work]

I've not seen or heard of anyone who has been able to build on 14.04 yet - all have the same problem - any ideas?

Yeah I can compile namecoin and bitcoin fine. Devcoin, ixcoin too. thought I was doing something wrong. I should try an older version then? Where to find? 14.04 is the huntercoin version number?

So I swapped my hdd for a ssd.  A used three year old ssd.

And it's great!

The blockchains take seconds to verify and load now.  my computer is dead silent.  And it uses about 10 less watts.

I think I know the answer to this but I just wanna ask right out:

If I find some shares with my P2Pool node and then I turn it off for a while, the btc will still be credited to me at some point right?

If there are donations while it is not on I won't get any?

Yes to the first, I don't see why you wouldn't get the second since your address will be in the list.

Thank you!

Is there a notable difference when using a ssd vs hdd? It's better to use one for the blockchains and os? Much faster/ effects hw latencies how much? Would you advise someone running a private p2pool node to buy one?

Thanks!

Yes it appears to have a big impact on latency. I don't think it matters much for the OS but it does matter for the block chains.

Thanks!

Do all of these coins have the "datadir=" option like bitcoin? I guess I could just check...

Wow. You should bottle and sell some of your awesome.

Thank you for sharing. If I find some cheap hash I will let you know.

Sorry to take you off the hardware target.  That's brutal. I would probably spend all day crying if that happened to me.

So you were alone when it happened? How old are you? Feel free to not answer if you don't want to.

It's hard to find something positive I'm sure. Your wife is supportive? I think mine might leave me for dead if it were me.

I don't have any good ideas. Maybe buy another jally and flash it too. I really don't like bfl though.

What happened with the logs? You mean the the wood type and not the info a program spits out right? You were carrying some?

ya mines the same way,

TBH I would just use the two 6pins and the EPS cable, that should be pleny of power, the extra two are just grounds

Thanks. This is what I will do.

Maybe jumping the gun a little. I started preparing for my BFL single in March and ended up waiting a looong time.
55  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Black Arrow ATX to DC board and strange pci-e holes on: January 18, 2014, 01:43:15 AM

Thanks! That page is very helpful! But it only deepens the mystery. The pci-e cables on those pictures have the same square plug that mine do. Why are they different than the holes on this board and the picture that BA sent? No one else have one of these?
56  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Black Arrow ATX to DC board and strange pci-e holes on: January 17, 2014, 07:43:16 PM
No. It is meant for the bitfury boards they sell. But I have ten x1's coming and thought my one good psu would be cleaner than ten small ones, and more efficient. I'm just assuming they will run on 12V. I asked in an email but they said that they come with psu's so I don't need one and they didn't answer my question.
57  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Black Arrow ATX to DC board and strange pci-e holes on: January 17, 2014, 12:28:00 PM
Hello!

So I recently bought this thing, and as you can see of my 6 + 2 pci, only the six fit.

So I emailed Black Arrow about it, and the response was really fast!! Only took a few hours. After dealing with BFL for so long, was pretty piss in my pants happy. They said my connectors are different. They sent some pictures.

They're pci's cable's extra 2 are both rounded. My top one is square. Go figure.

And as you can see from the picture, they have another cable plugged into the pci-e slot that is not a pci cable, I'm going to call it a cpu cable, don't know the real name.

So I wasn't very convinced and I bought a multimeter. I wanted one anyway. And there is a spot where you can plug in a cpu cable next to the motherboard pins. It is fine. With just that you get 12V across all of the terminals. But after testing some terminals with the multimeter (it's been a long time) I think that plugging a cpu cable into one of the terminals labeled pci-e, as per the pic they sent, will cause a short. If you have a cheap psu without safeguards something will probably melt. So I'm going to just use 6 of my 8 pins with each terminal. Anyone using one of these now? I plan on using it with some prospero x1's.
58  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: BFL 60 gh single March 14 preorder transfer with escrow on: September 21, 2013, 11:39:52 PM
If you'd look on bitmit I have one previous sell with positive feedback. It's also using escrow. If the miner doesn't show up in you bfl account, don't release the escrow. I'm a "senior member" on the bfl forums. User name Joe. I also say on the auction site that I will give any prospective bidders info the need. My address, wife's name, pictures, whatever. I don't know why it would matter since you would see the miner on your bfl account. If there's any problem when it comes you'd have the warranty. I think it's a fair price, but I guess not since there are no bids. I paid 36 btc for the miner in March, so I can't go any lower and sleep at night.
59  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: BFL 60 gh single March 14 preorder transfer with escrow on: September 21, 2013, 11:25:34 AM
Because the warranty is intact and it's never been used by me.  Straight from the assembly line. Absolutly no risk as far as it's ability to function within specs. And escrow. Go ahead and try to buy that 14 btc single from ugoslovia with, release escrow as soon as possible, gonna be a verified seller soon in the description. Bet it doesn't come.
60  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: BFL 60 gh single March 14 preorder transfer with escrow on: September 21, 2013, 05:01:05 AM
Moving pretty fast now. BFL shipped 20 days of singles today and yesterday. At this rate this single will ship by the end of the month. They will probably slow down again with April orders, assuming there were more orders after the bitcoin : USD ratio went through the roof.  Last chance for this single! I won't relist it again.
