41  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ROCKMINER ASIC miner official thread on: July 18, 2014, 12:54:04 PM
Cheers for the info. I will change it. But how exactly is it detrimental to the miner. Does it slow it down, cause more HW errors or something?
The options were designed around serial communication before we went full direct USB on cgminer and most of them are ignored while others just confuse the hashrate meter, so they basically serve no useful purpose. I've tried to simplify commands over time but most cgminer forks/external drivers seem intent on using old driver code examples and make their options harder than they need to be. Another example were the antminer U* miners where the official cgminer took only one command to set the frequency in a meaningful fashion whereas there were bizarre look up tables to set frequency and icarus options were required but ignored and so on...
Thanks mate, I appreciate the help. I believe you literally wrote the book on CGMiner and your help here as well as developing the app in the first place gets you a 10/10 from me.
Ive deleted the Icarus comments out of the string, so will see how it goes.
Either way, cheers for the help and keep up the good work mate.
Forgot to mention, if it wasn't for the efforts of people like you, we would be sitting here with useless pieces of hardware and scratching our heads what to do next.

Im guessing that you know exactly what you are talking about, so could you please let me know what should be in the cgminer.bat string. I appreciate this info if its going to make it a more efficient miner.
Thanks in advance.

Even the miners listed on Rockminers R100 website (rockhash.com) dont show any run times over 14hrs.
Best I've seen with mine was 16hrs but 1-4hrs is more common.

This stability issue seems to be affecting RK,R3 for sure and probably R4..
Im happy to post a screenshot of the miner after another 12hrs or so. Still running fine at the moment.
Heres a screenshot after running for about 2hrs. If I can figure out how to add an image.
45  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ROCKMINER ASIC miner official thread on: July 18, 2014, 10:56:12 AM
Ive got mine running straight to a USB hub and direct to pc working fine on cgminer 4.4.2 and HW errors aren't too bad. Its only been running for about 3 hrs, but looking good so far.
Maybe bypass the RPI until that can get sorted.

I am going to go the RPI route myself though. I want to put the miner in a spare room where the noise wont give me the shits as much.
46  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S3 Discussion and Support Thread. on: July 18, 2014, 09:57:17 AM

I am looking to sell one of my S3 that arrived today. I only want to keep one. It is still in its box and can ship out in the next three hours. I am looking for offers above 0.8BTC. You pay shipping.

Above is the one i have opened. I will have a video uploaded soon on the device.
That's one quick turn around for profit mate.
Also, how did you not have to pay extra $ for import tax, did Bitmain value the 2 less than $1k?

Hi everyone.
I had order#372
Direct order from BA
Local pickup complete.

Did you tell them to Get Fucked on your way out?
48  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: RK-BOX,450GH/S,480W ,shipping date 25th on: July 18, 2014, 08:10:05 AM
Ive tried to setup my RK-Box with CGMiner 4.4.2,  but cant for the life of me get it running.
Ive setup the .bat file with the same string that is working fine on 4.3.2 but each time I try to open 4.4.2 from the .bat file, it flashes up then just closes. Obviously closed the earlier version first.

Is there some trick to getting it working with the newer CGMiner?
Any help would be appreciated.

Just add "pause" on the new line in your .bat file...

It will stop and you could see what is the problem / error message in cgminer screen... Wink

ZiG
Thanks for that mate, it was erroring on the freq setting format id entered. At the end of the string I had
--RMU-FREQ=320 but got it going with the following.
cgminer.exe --Icarus-options 115200:1:1 -o stratum.btcguild.com:3333 -u x -p x --rock-freq=320
That last bit is somewhere earlier in this thread.
All seems a lot better now, hashrate is heading up to where it should be and the HW errors seem a lot lower as well. Also, its the only miner being run, no RBox or anything, just the RK-Box.
Thanks again, youre a champion.

I bought a Hashbuster 25GHs miner from this seller last year and its still quietly mining away and has earned its BTC back and more. Im guessing these new boards will do the same over time. They really are a set and forget miner.
The main thing is that the gear they build lasts forever so you wont be having to worry about RMAing or anything like that. In the unlikely event of a hardware failure, im sure they will simply exchange the gear.
I actually did bid on the auction that was run a little while back, but didn't have enough BTC to bid higher.

I also sent a request for a refund for my X1 to Minersource. No respond at all !
Will try again today to get at least a answere from them.

Good luck getting a positive reply from them. I sure did not get any helpful or legal reply from them over my 3 requests from them.

But good luck either way, you might need it. Ive decided to engage the US consumer authorities and with the feedback ive got from them already, im happy and confident they will inform Minersource how they should and will resolve my complaint.
Minersource don't seem to want to do the right thing by their customers so they have now been removed from my Christmas Card list. Not sure they will give a flying fark either way though somehow.
Good luck explaining why you refuse to adhere to the law of commerce Dan, Bobsag or whatever your name is.

Although BlackArrow Software have shafted every one of us, I actually think Bobsag has done admirably. Obviously no one's dancing-with-kittens happy about any part of this fiasco, but he's actually made an effort to do the right thing. I say that without bias as I wasn't actually even one of his customers for the BAS order (although I have just taken part in the technobit/minion exchange he just organised with Marto).
The only reason I have mentioned Bobsag is that he shows "Minersource Owner" in his threads. I have had no contact from him in that name, I have only had responses from Dan in any correspondence.
I have already stated that I agree that BA have shafted everyone, including the resellers, however, as ive also stated, my contract is with Minersource, and every attempt ive made to try to give a reasonable solution has been met with "sorry, cant help you here"
I honestly didn't think that a business that claims it is trying to do the right thing would have so much trouble in actually doing it.
Also, its all well and good if you are happy to take chips in exchange in value for what you have spent, but chips are no good to me at all, therefore useless to me. I cant see why they cant exchange goods to the same value from what they claim to be in stock and ready for immediate shipping in their website.

Edited later following contact from Minersource.
Edit,   Dan from Minersource has been able to resolve my situation. I have received an email showing my exchange of order has been accepted for other goods from the Minersource online store and that shipping and tracking details are to follow.
Thanks Dan, your efforts are very much appreciated.

Update, Minersource are back on my Christmas card list. They have offered to exchange my order for other items in their store and I already have shipping and tracking info.
Thanks Minersource, I appreciate your help.

Bitmain are not exempt from my "NO PREORDER" rule.

Agreed. This is the first time I have ever bought anything pre-order - and it will be my last.

It's a good rule  Grin
Bitmain are still Nr 1 on my trusted Sellers list and im just waiting for them to release Batch 4 with shipping within 48hrs as normal. Probably also with what will probably be a price that will make all the preorder Batch 1 buyers a tad annoyed, but that was all their choice for accepting to buy and pay for something that was even advertised to have estimated delivery possibly 2 difficulty changes later. Like I said, their CHOICE.
54  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANN: BITMAIN has Tested Its 28nm Bitcoin Mining Chip BM1382 on: July 14, 2014, 01:03:49 PM
Im more interested in their comment of "After long time testing, all of the S3 run stably at 441GH/s"

What timeframe are they considering to be "Long time testing" possibly as soon as the Batch 1s went on sale, who knows for sure. "1 x S3 for testing only", sure, no problems eh. )
NONE OF THE USERS ON THIS FORUM CAN PROVE EITHER WAY.

Mmm sounds like great cause for a reduction in the Batch 4 units unless im mistaken.

Also, with the small advantage of overclocking, I personally wouldn't bother with looking for any power supply to power 1, 2 or even 3 of these overclocked. Especially if "Warranty void if overclocked".

Still patiently waiting for Batch 4 prices, as well as Upgrade kit prices for S1 and S2s, although I cant see upgrade kits coming out for a while yet.

Roll on Batch 4 with postage within 48hrs of payment received as per Bitmains previous excellent record and ill be ordering. Until then, im patient. Im happy to wait.

Bitmain are not exempt from my "NO PREORDER" rule.

I have asked politely on 3 separate occasions for Minersource to swap my order of 2 x X-1s for equivalent value stock due to the fact that the X-1s being shipped now are "NOT AS DESCRIBED" at purchase time, ie are not a fully working unit with LCD etc. Therefore, 100% legally acceptable for buyer to request refund.

Minersource are dodging the email requests for a 100% completely legal request for refund/store credit with the same lack of professional courtesy that it looks like BA are.
As in my emails to these semi professionals who are trying their best to run a business, I have agreed that they appear to have been shafted by BA just like everyone else, but their attitude is exactly the same as BA in as far as not showing that they accept their legal responsibility to look after customers who have already paid in full and just want to receive what has already been paid for, or at least equivalent merchandise to the same value.

Minersource must think that just because the buyer / customer is in Australia, their company is not able to be held fully legally responsible to fulfil that customers request of refund. Ive got some very bad news for Minersource,  YES YOU ARE. Sorry, I did give them 3 separate email opportunities to sort out my situation by simply swapping my 2 x X-1 orders for other goods which they state you have in stock so no out of pocket expenses should be incurred, but they chose 3 times to deny my legal right for compensation.

And for all you Minersource fans out there, don't bother trying in any way to say that these guys look after the customers, all I can say that in my case, THEY DEFINATELY HAVE NOT.

I fully appreciate and understand that Minersource are a reseller of BA and therefore the delays etc were out of Minersource control and caused by BA. However I bought from Minersource, therefore my buying contract lies with Minersource and they are fully responsible to provide products as per contracts to the buyers, or at least provide equivalent goods.

Excellent update from Bitmain.  On a side note, BA, please take note on how a proper company runs their business.

Cant wait to see price for B4.
58  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANN: BITMAIN has Tested Its 28nm Bitcoin Mining Chip BM1382 on: July 04, 2014, 11:07:46 AM
Not sure if theyre already mining or not with the S3s from Batch 1 which are already sold and paid for by the preorder buyers. Im not prepared to give any Mining supplier the benefit of the doubt in their favour of not mining nowadays, although every S1 and S2 ive bought have arrived seemingly brand new.

Just say hypothetically they are mining and that they have 1000 S3s mining away. At the current difficulty 500THs of mining power brings in roughly 14.3BTC a day. So at the current BTC price, that works out to roughly $10K a day. Not sure how many S3 units were part of Batch 1 alone, but they sold out in record time, therefore were paid for from the very beginning by the buyers at a cost which already covered the cost of production, shipping and profit for the seller.
Using the hypothetical figure of 1000 units, and if they were hypothetically mining from day one earning roughly 15BTC a day, multiply that by 10-15 days of preorder time, then, yes, massive profits indeed.

Im personally going to wait for them to be sold from "In Stock ready to ship", mainly more for the reason of import tax costs, which at the moment, who would know what the price is going to be at shipping time. Im pretty sure the cost at shipping time is whats going to be on the customs invoice, not what the value is if we paid now.

Then theres the factor of info regarding the upgrade kits which a lot of people are still waiting for.
59  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANN: BITMAIN has Tested Its 28nm Bitcoin Mining Chip BM1382 on: July 04, 2014, 08:26:14 AM
You would think that with all the threads relating to Preorders and the drawbacks, people would have learnt from them. S3s are currently at Preorder status and until Bitmain go back to "Shipping from IN STOCK within 48hrs", the Preorder status remains.

Either way, at the current price of BTC, 2 x 0.74 x $691 AUD, that puts the price just over $1000 AUD therefore attracting an extra $200 odd for import tax.
Id rather wait until the price is dropped to the point where im not paying any more tax that we currently do here. Im sure the same goes for other countries who get raped by the customs.
Also, once the shipping status changes from preorder, when we do order, we will know exactly how much Bitmain is going to declare on the customs invoices.

Simple solution to this problem, would be for Bitmain to sell the units with minimum qty of 1. Surely that cant be too hard for them to do?
60  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANN: BITMAIN has Tested Its 28nm Bitcoin Mining Chip BM1382 on: July 01, 2014, 03:26:27 PM
With the S3 orders now clearly stated on the website as not shipping until 10th - 20th, im considering that a preorder and im not ordering again until Bitmain go back to the tried and tested "In Stock, postage within 48hrs of payment".
Sorry, not gonna get bitten by the preorder frenzy buy in ever again. BTC price varies way too much and from now till the 20th worst case scenario is 2 difficulty increases.
Will definitely have a look at anything that pops up about the upgrade kits though. Im sure that any kit has to be classified as computer parts which should attract a lot less import taxes.
