41  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Network Attack on XVG / VERGE on: April 08, 2018, 11:43:51 AM
When does the Suprnova Pool start again with myriad-groestl?

There are only bad pools to dismantle suprnova pool was good.

The pool http://xvg-mg.idcray.com/ is constantly out of order.

Can anyone happen to tell the port for the Baikal Gaint X10 via the http://xvg-mg.idcray.com/ pool with the correct difficulty.

Hope Suprnova will be back online soon

Won't happen.

Not surprised after how xvg dev reacted.

Let me get this straight about Verge... (self.CryptoCurrency)

submitted 10 hours ago * by Harucifer

So, Verge is pretty "big" for an alt/shitcoin. I remember the hype started when John McAffe (the "celeb" who gets paid for his tweets) tweeted about it, and it's been a shitshow ever since. And the dumb money KEEPS FLOWING IN.

Back in November/December, McAffe tweets about Verge (probably got his $105,000.00 for that). Hype starts building up.
Verge had a "Wraith Protocol" update coming up on a set date. Dev didn't keep true to his word and postponned it. When it finally came out, it wasn't anything impressive.
Dev made a post asking about paying taxes related to cryptos/coinbase. A few hours after said post, he started a "Give Verge to our pool so we can reveal big news on day XX/YY!!!1"
Didn't get enough money, some company matched the donation value so he would reveal it anyway.
Didn't reveal it. Postponned to April 16th.
Two days ago, their Blockchain was hacked.
Dev pushed a "fix" and said everything was fine. Wasn't, as hacker still mined free XVG.
Now Dev pushed another "fix". It was a hardfork. He didn't know it was a hardfork. Let me repeat that. The Dev. Didn't. Know. He. Pushed. A. Hard. Fork.
Despite all this, XVG is riding a pretty substantial rocket in value, gaining crazy percentages in a consolidated bear market. This honestly feels JUST LIKE BITCONNECT. Dumb money flows in, colorblind to all the red flags that keep popping up and probably thinking they're gray or green.

I'm at a loss for words. If anyone knows an exchange that allows me to short Verge, please PM it to me. I'll love some free money when this shit booms.

BTW that  company that matched donation value was no one else then Tokenpay ICO, in which xvg main dev is team member. Check their tweets luring money from ppl in form like: "don't be late for deal of century" or "guys if you can give 15 millions of xvg, we will pay the rest". Bitconnect style formulations...

The attack still must be going on. There are still a ton of orphaned blocks right now on Yiimp.

It will go on until hard fork. Until then attacker "owns" xvg chain.
44  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Network Attack on XVG / VERGE on: April 07, 2018, 05:09:39 AM
I have been a long time Verge supporter, and although I am disappointed at how this was handled, I will say:

(1) I believe this was an organization, not an individual, that made the attack
(2) I believe this attack is related to the deal of the century
(3) I believe the attack would not have occurred if the deal of the century were fake
(4) If the deal of the century still happens, you can be sure that whatever this big company is, they will go through the Verge code on every detail with their own developers and so any incompetency on the Verge team may be irrelevant

So, they (Verge & the deal-of-the-century) could still end up being a success despite this recent hiccup.

You know what type of projects even in out of crypto world using such phrases as "deal of the century", right? And I'm rather not talking about it was paid by the comunity and ICO.

The course was not badly damaged. Why is that?

Mysterious partnership. What else. Just hardfork this ,act like nothing happened and keep hyping until 17th April.

sharing this from grant hunter.... worth the read.

VERGE XVG ‘MINING ATTACK’ UPDATE:

This has just been shared with The Crypteia Program, and after a lengthy conversation with Michael Sloggett earlier, we all decided it was very important to release this to the wider community as part of a unified message.

This is the facts as much as we know them at this stage, it is up to you to DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH and plan accordingly.

In terms of trading, Verge XVG has been trading epically since the news about the upcoming industry partnership: It has a huge, dedicated following and gets the volume needed to trade and make serious gains. It’s been traded very technically; hitting the fibs, support, resistance and trend lines.

Unfortunately, this attack on Verge’s blockchain exploits a flaw in the code, so that the person who is attacking, has effectively taken over the blockchain, and made the original one obsolete for the time being.

As of this morning, the vulnerability is still there and there have been two main attacks:

1- Blocks 2007365 - 2010039 = 2674 blocks.
Rounded down to 2500 @ 1560 XVG per block = approx 3.9 million XVG
2- Blocks 2014060 - 2026196 = 12,136 blocks
Rounded down to 10k @ 1560 XVG per block = approx 15.6 million XVG

This gives a conservative estimate of 19.5 million XVG

As stated previously, this attack exploits a flaw in the code which XVG uses to switch between each one of the 5 algorithms it uses for mining. For every new block to be mined, the algorithm must be switched, and all 5 must be used in rotation. (This is something that other coins like Myriad and Digibyte use. They have also been attacked in a similar way in the past, and have fixed their issues - although they were experiencing much less volume at the time as what Verge is now).

The exploit itself is very smart. The attacker has used the flaws in Verge’s code to put an older timestamp on their fake blocks to trick the network into thinking that the fake chain is the real one, by having this broadcast to over 51% of the nodes. They have gained consensus, effectively taking control of the XVG chain. This has meant that the ‘real’ blocks being mined by legitimate miners, are seen as the false ones, and therefore are ignored (orphaned).

The reason why trading is still possible, is because the ‘fake’ chain is still verifying transactions so people can still trade the coin, however, the attacker is adding extra blocks and making extra free XVG for themselves.

This is a summary of events of how this situation has been handled by OCMINER and Sunerok of Verge during this situation:

1) OCMINER (Supernova Mining Pools) approached verge dev team in their discord group after noticing the issue in their pool.
2) This was unsuccessful, and nothing was taken further at that stage by the verge dev team.
3) OCMINER then posted details of the attack onto Bitcointalk.org, in order to alert the wider mining community of the attack.
3) Verge dev then got involved, and attacked OCMINER for advertising the issue and making the problem worse.
4) Verge dev then attempted to fix the issue by copying and pasting a fix for Peercoin into Verge.
5) This piece of code had a flaw which wasn’t picked up on and this caused the issues yesterday where wallets wouldn’t sync, and the real blocks were still be ignored by the chain.
6) A new fix was suggested by OCMINER to Verge Dev, which included:

- New code to fix the flaw (from DGB - which would need to be merged with Verge’s code in the correct places as they are slightly different).
- A method to blacklist the malicious addresses - meaning the attacker could no longer use the coins they falsely mined.

7) During this time there has been a private discussion between OCMINER and Sunerok, which was fairly heated at times, and saw no resolution between the two.

At this stage, there has been no fix implemented. The vulnerability is still open and the attacker still controls the longest chain.

FYI - Attacks, hacks and exploitations are very common. These have been going on since the late 70’s when UK and US intelligence agencies invented cryptography as a way to communicate secretly with each other. This situation should be seen as a good thing - simply for the advancement that it leads to. After every attack, the code is made stronger, however:

The most important part of this type of situation is how the dev team respond to it, because it has the potential to cause havoc. Both in terms of public perception (trust) of Cryptocurrency, and for Verge itself.

Remember there are two sides to this market - the facts and the PR. Verge is a PR machine, and its following is fanatical in its belief of the project. Up to now, the PR is working, and the price hasn’t been too negatively affected. One reason for this is that most of the comments about on this attack on Verge social media (twitter / reddit) are being censored by Verge, and the information being put out by Verge isn’t wholly accurate in terms of the seriousness of the matter.

With the upcoming announcement of the ‘new industry partnership’ being rumoured as being a German Bank, this issue if not resolved effectively, could lose them the partnership and reduce public trust in both crypto and Verge, simply because it will be seen as another failure.

In terms of the actual privacy of the coin, the maliciously mined coins can be tracked using a blockexplorer - bringing into question the legitimacy of the how private the blockchain currently is.

I have absolutely no idea which way this will go - either way it’s not good.

There is potential for it to be fixed and with the strength of the Verge community, the price of the coin could still maintain its action in the run up to the partnership announcement.

There is equally as much chance that this could implode bringing Verge to its knees and seeing a mass sell off of the coin, leaving many out of pocket.

My aim with posting this is to inform and give everyone the opportunity to look into this further themselves, make whatever decisions they want regarding any Verge XVG they currently hold.

This post is a summary of the thread linked below and all details of this situation are there, with all links to relevant sites to verify the information given. Please look into this further, and learn as much as you can, so you are as informed as you want to be:

Thx for summup. I think every one can make his own picture now.

How you to challenge such project as pundix in real world?
48  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Privacy getting important: Verge or Spectrecoin or DeepOnion?? on: January 19, 2018, 09:25:51 AM
Anyone who consider xvg as anonymous is noob with absolutely no tech knowledge. Verge only has optional stealth adressesing aka wraith, which does not even work now. One dev coding, not delivering promised roadmap since June, just postpone half of features with constant lying, then McAfee pumped it and now newbs keep yelling that Verge is private. Lol

Another idiot spreading FUD.
Newbie with 0 activity. An account made specifically to call this a scam.

You're just raising the credibility of SpectreCoin and promoting this awesome privacy coin.

Awesome comment. Insulting answer without going on my Information. Perfect.

You DON'T HAVE any information. You just speculate shit. Get in line.

Great long term project, I bought several hundred MOIN.

Particl is up over $40 now, so should bring some buying to MOIN, this could be the most undervalued privacy coin out there.

I'm also into NAV and VIA which I think are greatly undervalued, as well.

don't think its most undervalued privacy out there, but undervalued is for sure considering what they have in future plans.
what bothers me is there is no active community at all, reddit is pretty much dead, riot thing also no telegram, slack i can't enter so lack of news and communication from devs with small comunity is certanly not apealing to new investors.hope this changes in future and they give us more news and updates with current state of project

Exactly my thoughts. I'm on moin discord and it's truly dead there. One reaction a day. So very low comunity. As for devs Jookly is quite active but he doesn't know everything about tech. development. So it's hard to figure out what is moin actually about.

BTW. What is your most undervalued privacy coin right now?

Particl Part right now is around 22 dollars, MOIN is 0.8 dollar.
When Particl will go up to around 100 dollar after 1Q release.
I speculate that MOIN should follow up with 3x-5x price increase. There are less and less sell pressure as a lot of people are staking and waiting for SWAP.
We still have to wait and see what MOIN core developers will prepare for us.

From investor perspective I would feel quite safe to invest in MOIN.
As it has CRZ Lead Designer in core development team which is Gerlof van Ek Developer, Branding & Graphics, UI/UX in PARTICL core development team.

Moin will inherit a lot of great stuff from Particl.

Thats designer from particl team.
But who is actually developing code stuff for moin? Why github is absolutely ghost town. How can investors believe project is legit ?

2 years and no white paper. That's weird. Also main dev seems not to be working on moin full time, so progress is really slow. Where is comunity located.? Slack doesn't work and on discord there are 10ppl.lol. Moin has interesting ideas and beautiful website but right now lack of enthusiasm which can attract another ppl from similar projects.
54  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: SimpleFX.com SCAM they took 0.45 btc on: November 13, 2017, 10:21:52 PM
You are not only one. One person from crypto group was stolen 40k$ profit by simplefx exactly because of this reason. Seems that they haven't been prepared for bch pump and now they don't have money for payout ppl profit.

Does WTC have masternodes if so how many WTC to get 1 masternode? I have a few looking to add more at lower levels than where it's at now

Yes, currently you have to own 5000 WTC but there is talks of increasing that.

What??? How there is talks? So ppl bought 5k and somehow someone can decide its not enough for masternode??

It was said month ago that until the end of September wtc will have own wallet and blockchain, if not, I'm dumping all coins and invest in project that can behave more professional in communication and delivering promises. If such big team can't code these things how they can manage harder tasks in future. I know many one coder projects and they at least have solid web, it's blockchain and at least one own wallet.

Have some patience, this project is still growing feet and we will see some big developments before 2018 I'm sure...

So now blockchain is postponed to end of 2017?  Also promised better website, where is it? Team of top notch 15 or more professionals, one former top from Samsung and they can't manage such basics?Including terrible communication. Argumenting with the fact they are new in business is quite funny considering what people they claim to have in team.
