41  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Pools (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][Pool][Profit-Switch][Optional Auto-Exchange per Coin][Vardiff] ~ Hashcows on: December 19, 2013, 01:29:48 PM
If you continued to mine DOGE for say, 48-72+ hours, would there ever be a time where the system pays us out if the round just keeps going and going for days on end, or do we have to wait for the whole round, even if it takes several days, to complete?

Thanks!

There have been artificial breaks in the rounds to make sure payouts happen. If you look back at the last 24 hours you can see that the admins have done this & that DOGE have been every other round.

Over 100,000,000 DOGE mined by the cows now!

The 7 hour DOGE mining really worth that much what it shows? Or it will increase later? Because if it will stay, I'm thinking to swith a pool until things gets fixed...

The 7 hour DOGE round brought in approximately 50% of yesterdays total - so I'm happy

Does anyone know if the 'Accepted Shares' quoted in the stats (for both User and Pool) have been adjusted for difficulty?

Basically does:               User Accepted Shares
___________________    x  (Mature Coins + Immature Coins) = My Expected Coins

                                  Pool Accepted Shares

For each round?

GDC still borken?
I see that we started mining it again today but we found 0 blocks in 9 min. Now for a coin with a 45 sec block time that ain't so great. Just a few days ago I was complaining that we didn't mine enough GDC but now I think that the coin is kinda broken as every pool only returns a small fraction of estimated returns.
So what do you fellow hashcows think? GDC worth mining or too broke?

The GDC wallet daemon is straight up rejecting solved blocks, so it's one to avoid. I mined it yesterday and part of today and got about 40% of the expected return.

Yeah, we re-enabled a bunch of coins tonight, gdc among them.  However shortly after, I noticed some complaints on other pools of reduced rewards, and warnings that the daemon may have bugs to this effect.   I've re-disabled GDC for now.

Hope this is just linked to GDC & bad luck & not the other coins introduced last night. I last looked after 18 hours of the day & things were looking good with 0.0098 BTC confirmed exchanged balance (which would scale up to 0.0130 over the day at that rate). Woke up this morning to 0.0116 BTC in my ledger & 0.0013 BTC confirmed exchanged balance from the first 5 hours of today (which scales up to an expected 0.006 BTC for the day).

Fingers crossed thing pick up.

BTC prices took a nasty hit and the alts have done much worse. Things are looking lean until there's a rebound in market enthusiasm.

UPDATE: It looks like things are improving with my confirmed exchanged balance now suggesting close to 0.01 BTC for the day and the est. unexchanged balance bulking up. It also looks like my backup pool saw some significant activity overnight so perhaps the stratum had a few issues.

0.0100862   04/12/2013
0.01078565   03/12/2013

Giving an average of BTC0.0134 per day

This is on 800ish Kh/s spread over 3 cards & 3 virtualised CPU machines (I know!)

Yesterday was made worse by me spending some time tuning my card performances & I crashed one of the machines with 400Kh/s for about 4 hours.

I see that your payouts follow mine in a certain sense. for the past few days.one day is higher..one is lower..one is higher..another one lower.. and so on. it alternates.

I believe the highs are explained by the problems with the exchanges experienced during the previous day.

I hope I am not tempting fate here but things seem to be settling down again after a couple of very bumpy days.

As far as I can tell the main outstanding issue is disconnects and (decreasingly) occasional stratum failures associated with coin changes.

Whilst a bit worrying I see the problem with the stats and payout estimations are secondary to making sure the mining equipment stays fully occupied.

I'm sure everyone here would appreciate a quick update of what you guys (Atriz & nearmiss) believe to be the outstanding issues and what your priorities are.

Keep up the good work guys - I really appreciate what you have done & are trying to do here.

Oh, under the "coin balances" tab! I see it now. Not the most obvious of places to find it haha. I thought it was auto pay out.

Also if you go into 'User Settings' and then 'Coin Settings' and then select 'BTC (Bitcoin)' in the 'Coin:' dropdown list you can set the Auto Payout function.
52  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Pools (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][Pool][Profit-Switch][Optional Auto-Exchange per Coin][Vardiff] ~ Hashcows on: December 11, 2013, 10:25:59 AM
I've been hashing for ~36 hours now and haven't received any payouts. Should I drop an admin a PM?

Have you checked the 'User Ledger' tab under 'Statistics' on the website. There should be an entry just after 23:00 for each day you have been hashing. You should also see a balance under the 'Coin Balances' tab.

If nothing is showing up in either of those tabs & you are showing a hashrate on the site then drop them a message.

The admins are usually offline about now and are normally back online in about 2 hours time.

Go gentle with them - they have had a rough couple of days.  Smiley

Hi Guys

I know about the problems & appreciate that it is being worked on.

I can't believe how nervous the 'wrong' stats have made me, especially when it is coupled with my record low payout last night.

Still I believe both aTriz and nearmiss have banked plenty of goodwill from us.

Here's hoping for some good news soon and a lot of coin stuck in the system.

By the way - if you guys want to put any future updates into a beta environment I'm more than happy to sign up as a tester.

Is the algorithm set up to not switch until a block has been mined? Until it reaches a certain % over the usual? How does it work?

I noticed a lot of rounds that found 0 blocks, if its switching before a block is finished often, that's just wasted hash rate.

My assumption is that this was just some hiccups, but can you verify?

Can I get a response to these questions?

I see an awful lot of rounds that are highlighted in green and/or have no payout listed. That combined with a very low payout so far have me second guessing.

We check all coins profitability every few minutes, we have a base minimum time per round that we hit no matter what (because there is a small cost of lost mining time every switch), after that minimum time there are various rules to determine whether we should switch. Generally speaking, one coin has to be a decent amount more profitable than the current, to switch within X amount of time.

From time to time, we get unlucky and get no blocks but that's just the card we were dealt, so to speak Sad

We can always increase the "base minimum time per round" so if that's something that will increase payouts we can do it.

At the absolute minimum you should never stop mining until you hit a block (exceptions at the end).

Think of it this way: Coin A takes an average of 10 minutes per block and at current trading rates is 200% more profitable than some set coin, such as litecoin.

Coin B takes an average of 20 minutes per block and is currently trading at rates of 150% that same set coin.

So you start mining A. 5 minutes in, coin B becomes more profitable.

I propose to continue mining until you get a block of coin A. If the average is 10 minutes and the minimum is 0 minutes, just about 100% of the blocks will fall between 10 and 20 minutes (yes I know the math is more complicated than that). 99.7% of the data will fall within 3 standard deviations above/below the average, so we can infer the standard deviation is at most 3.33 minutes. This also means that 95% of the blocks mined will fall between 3.33 and 16.66 minutes. Realistically, the normal distribution will be much closer to the average.

Worse case scenario, is that it takes 20 minutes to mine a block. If it takes 20 minutes, we spend 15 minutes mining a 'less profitable' coin. How profitable does the new 'more profitable' coin have to be to outweigh this difference? Well, assuming that we will mine a block of the more profitable coin at the average amount of time (20 minutes), we have the following equation:

200% * (15 minutes / 15 minutes for a block) =  B% * (15 minutes / 20 minutes for a block)

B% = 266.667%. B must be 266.667% more profitable than our coin setpoint.

However, 95% of the time, this block will mine in 16.66 minutes or less. The equation then works out to be B% = 344.82%. In this case, B needs to be almost twice as profitable as A to expect rewards from switching.

This is assuming a huge amount of variation in block size, which is unlikely. For blocks that take an average of 10 minutes, my guess is that something like 95% will fall between 6 and 14 minutes.

If you set something like litecoin or bitcoin as a setpoint, your profitability calculations to determine when to switch and when to stay should be as follows:

(current time spent mining A + average time for block of B / average time required for block A) * profitability vs. setpoint > average time for block B * profitability vs. setpoint.

The moment that > becomes < is when you should switch, even if time has been spent on coin A.

This is because on average, we should be looking at expected blocks of A vs. profitability of A as compared to B, given a switch, assuming average expected blocks of B. In fact, when we do this, we find the profitability requirements to switch are much, much higher.

Of course, once a block is mined, it would be time to switch to another coin.

I don't think that fruitless rounds are a significant problem at the moment but I think you raise an interesting general suggestion that is worth considering.

Make the check for profitability, and change if appropriate, upon the discovery of a block or after a longer period of time.

I believe this pool has a great framework with unlocked potential profit that can hopefully be found by tinkering with the rules and carrying out some structured testing.

Keep up the good work Smiley

Looking like a good day today.

Adding up "My Est. Earnings" column for today is looking very healthy - these long runs on worldcoin look to be very profitable.

Not counting anything until tonight's payout as we all remember tagcoins.

yes very good!
I know I shouldn't complain about daily estimates, but currently just by summing the first ten rounds I already get a higher number than that (and it's going down).

I think it's safe to say that the Daily Estimate is well and truly broken, but I am happy for it to stay like this whilst the devs concentrate on other profit enhancing areas. Smiley

EDIT: Something really weird is going on with Worldcoins - I think the exchange rate has gone wonky because reported profitability is up to 2262.2349 and MY Est. Earnings per round on Worldcoin are all greater then my usual daily total.

EDIT2: OK - Looks much better now.

Hi

Before I start I'd like to say that aTriz & nearmiss deserve a lot of credit for the work they have put in. I am also impressed with their responsiveness to questions and suggestions.

As a lazy miner I am really pleased with both the automatic selection of coins to mine and the automatic conversion to BTC.

With that in mind I hope you take this posting in the spirit it is meant  Grin

I carried out a very unscientific review of the performance yesterday by saving and analysing the Past Round stats from the website.

I recorded rounds 4758 - 4803. In 18 hours the total recorded mining time was 12h 30m 50s which, if the stats are accurate, equates to only 69.5% productive mining time. If this is the case then I would suggest that concentrating on improving the transition between coins should be high on the development list.

I have also noticed a massive change in the performance of my miners when working with the different coins, up to 40% difference in hashrates on a stable rig. When setting the weighting for each coin is this taken into account?

As you can tell I do like to research and crunch the numbers. With that in mind my own personal wish list has better stats at the top. I would love to be able to look at more detailed historic data, beyond the Last 30 Rounds currently visible on the website. I would like to see the actual BTC paid out as well as keep My Estimated Earnings, for comparison. I would also love to see the profitability as calculated at coin selection time and the actual profitability once paid out.

Thanks for the warning... I will keep to BTC because it's way more stable than Alt-Coins.

Finally , somebody thinking right what to do with his money.

I am mining Alt-Coins as they have the best chance of any returns but am playing safe by converting my coins into BTC at the first opportunity.
