Can someone explain to me exactly how PoS works. Thanks

Sure I can,

PoS - Proof of Stake, works based on the coinage of the coins in your wallet.
How to generate PoS blocks,
1. Leave your wallet open and unencrypted
2. don't spend your coins, keep them in your wallet.
3. when the coins are old enough (round 15days) they will go to the stake section of your wallet.
4. the coins from the stake section will be counted for PoS, blocks are generated
5. all coins go back to your balance, plus you get the interest on top.

thats it

more technical to be found here:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Proof-of-stake

I think we Need one or two more pools.
So maybe if someone is around who knows some pool owners, just ask, if then would setup a pool for grain.

Would be good for the network, more miners, more stable and higher spread.

So, since I am solo mining now, can someone explain a few things to me please...
1) When you solo mine, do the coins go to a different wallet address? I looked at one of the blocks that I got and it shows 'To' as a different wallet address then the one I receive normal transactions with.
2) When I go to list the transactions in the Wallet, in the filter area there are 2 separate Mined selections, showing 2 totally different sets of transactions.... any idea why this is?

TIA

For 2) mined selections are seperated for pow and pos transactions
For 1) is the normal behaviour if you have more than 2 addresses

Hope this helps a bit

Hi all,

Bosian is working on the PoS issue.
Talked to him yesterday, he is inspecting the whole codebase.

Give him some More Time to get it fixed.

Ok, so over the night I solved 2 blocks Smiley
Solo Mining is not that bad once you figure it out Smiley
Thanks for the info guys!

Now we just need Grain to get added to a few exchanges and for a few places to start using them as a payment option and all is good.

We are working on the mentioned points. exchanges and places where grain is accepted are already contacted.

Thank you for mining grain!

Do we? Surely a smaller steady hashrate means there's a higher distribution of overall grains, than if some big hashers came in and started reaping the harvests? That's what would happen if this hit an exchange. I think heavily promoting grain could make it a victim of its own success. Get more people mining it yes, but as soon as it hits an exchange it will be pumped and dumped and seriously devalued once the hashrate drops back down.

I guess it would mean cheap grain for everyone if they wanted to buy it, but that seems to defeat the point. If it takes me a week to mine 100k grain, but then I could just buy it for a mere 0.001 BTC, then what possible incentive do I have to keep mining it? I could buy 10 million for 0.1 BTC. The coin would be as good as dead. Just like all the other highly inflated coins.

The only way to defeat the inflation is through higher distribution, and you're not going to get that by putting this on an exchange in the near future. It seems like a logical fallacy and contradictory to what this coin is trying to achieve. Long term sustainability.

Just look at what happened to ColossusCoin. I admit this coin has a lot more going for it than that copyclone, but the principle is exactly the same. Who wants to mine a coin you can buy for at a satoshi each, when you could mine more profitable coins and just buy them instead?

That's the kind of thing you'd want to do halfway through the total supply of coins, or at least to a point where the supply is becoming more scarce. Once there's no incentive to mine and no possible profit forseeable over the horizon, people will give up and move on just like every other coin. I hope that grain learns from other altcoins and doesn't follow the same path. If this hits the exchange at a Satoshi then there would be absolutely no reason for me to mine it anymore. I could buy 10 million, and sit on it like everyone else would.

The market cap would be flat and near-zero.

Basically Nullu is right, we don't need another pump&dump on any exchange, this was I guess not the intention of bosian, we need to grow the community around Grain day by day.
So for sure we need to increase the hashpower, but step-by-step. And we need to be in mind of the exchanges.
Then the dev team is working on games and places to accept Grain in the future. This should be the longterm aim. Grow Grain to a cryptocurrency for everybody.

And then there is PoS which generates coins while you hold them.

So lets do our best as community to spread the word for grain

Was feeling pretty crappy tonight. Nyancoin was an utter failure too. It's sad to see this self sabotaging behavior.

But hey. I just received 20k Grain for the giveaway, and moments later, mined a block. So after a couple of days I nearly have 50k grain now. I'm sticking with this coin. It's quiet and doesn't shout too much. Too many coins now.

There was a giveaway? Damn I missed it  Undecided

As for exchanges...I'll be holding on to my Grains too. Love the coin since it isn't hyped and Bosian does a great job! Thanks for developing a great coin with potential!

The giveaway is still available:

Post your wallet there and you will get some grain for the start.

We should really try to find someone who could make a game where you can play using Grains. I would love to gamble with my Grain. If I knew how to do it myself I would do it, but no skills in that area. Embarrassed

What kind of games you would prefer? Like dice, wheel or someting else?
A slot machine would be really nice, but pretty much anything would work.

got in contact with the guys from peerbet.
lets see that we work something out together with them.

Weird. I just added a new address to my wallet, and now my last transaction where I solo mined a block has the name of the address I just created in my wallet. Hope it doesn't mess up my solo mining.

Hmm, maybe you could post a screenshot just to understand better what happened.

You can't see my cursor icon, but I'm hovering over the grain I mined, but it's taken on the address of the address I added to my wallet.  Undecided

I just did the same.

And yes it shows the mined blocks not any more as (n/a), it then shows the second address of the wallet. Maybe we can have a look at the code to fix this one.
