41  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Hackers stole the whole bank, that's the worst situation in BTC on: February 25, 2014, 08:09:13 PM
Was mtgox really that stupid to not have a cold wallet? And they didnt realize that their wallet was cleared? Thats somewhat unbelieveable to me.
MtGox have previously stated that they kept many separate "cold" wallets.

However, they did not monitor transferring of coins from cold wallets to the "hot" wallet, until the cold wallets were all empty. I don't really understand how this could happen.

Perhaps, the "cold" wallets weren't actually "cold". They were kept online but on a restricted network, and only activated when the hot wallet needed topping up, and this would happen automatically without anyone checking.
Perhaps the cold wallets were kept off-line or on paper, but the admin staff who were handling them, just got used to topping-up the hot-wallet every day and no senior management ever checked whether the BTC balance was correct.

SEPA transfers are irreversible. You will have to ask the recipient for a refund or go to court and sue for a refund.

If the recipient of the money is insolvent, then it may be impossible to get all (or any) of your money back.

Dev, the block times are getting stupid...

You said this coin is 30 block retarget. This is obviously not true.
What the hell is wrong with the retarget?
Whatever it is, it isn't 30 blocks.

During the launch, the first retarget didn't take place till about block 1000-2000.

Just checked the source: looks like the block retarget interval is 360 blocks for the first 70000 blocks.

whats going on on the hashfaster pool??? nothing is confirming got now 55k unconfirmd and 0 confirmd
Blocks take 4 hours to confirm.

The whole coin was running at turbo speed for the first hour or so, now that things have settled down, you'll just have to wait a bit.

15 hours is bad.

24 from original launch much better.

PoolMineWith.Us is accepting pre-registrations for our Anti-Keiser-Coin pool for launch.

First 20 registrations will automatically be granted 0% pool fees.

PPLNS pool, 1% pool fee, email confirmations required

akc.poolminewith.us
Registered. Looks like a good pool.
48  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [SCRYPT] Probability of not solo mining a block in a period of x time? on: February 09, 2014, 08:07:05 PM
Oops. I got it slightly wrong; I missed the 2 days bit.

Lambda = expected number of blocks in the period

So, for 2 days, lambda = 3.08

P(No block) = e ^ -3.08 = 4.5%
49  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [SCRYPT] Probability of not solo mining a block in a period of x time? on: February 09, 2014, 07:31:18 PM
This is a simple application of the Poisson distribution.

Lambda = Expected number of blocks per day

Prob (No blocks) = e ^ -Lambda

In your case, 1 block per 0.65 days = 1.54 blocks per day.

P(No blocks) = e^ -1.54 = 21%

51  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] LEASERIG.NET - rent mining rigs - NEW: place rig order! on: February 08, 2014, 03:20:07 PM
I've been getting a heap of people messaging me asking to rent my rigs for SHA3 mining.

Anyway, I think that there might be enough demand for SHA3 mining that leaserig might want to support it. I suspect there will be quite a lot of demand for buyers of mining time now that Maxcoin is working.

The mining software appears to be a modified cgminer so there should be no difficulty from the backend.
52  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Mt.Gox SCAM? $38million disappeared. Large sums affected. on: February 08, 2014, 12:00:04 PM
Here's a possible explanation as to the "technical" issues that MtGox has been suffering.

http://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/1x93tf/some_irc_chatter_about_what_is_going_on_at_mtgox/

In short, Mt Gox wrote their own custom wallet software, which only worked because of a bug in early versions of bitcoin. The bug was fixed in a recent release. This would cause transactions sent from Gox to fail.

A group of people, thinking that they were being helpful set up relay servers that would take the transactions from Gox, fix them to work around the bug, and then rebroadcast the fixed transactions. The transactions could reuse the same signature (as they were the same transaction), but would be allocated a new TxID.

A second bug in Gox's wallet meant that their wallet client only checked it's own TxIDs, and never scanned the blockchain for other TxIDs on its coins. As a result, it is possible that the wallet ran dry, but the actual wallet client didn't notice, and transactions would block because of attempted double-spend.

53  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] LEASERIG.NET - rent mining rigs - hire VTC mining rigs here! on: February 06, 2014, 08:28:57 PM
My rigs are showing up in the "for rent" list with the wrong price shown.

I have 2 rigs with identical price plans available. One is showing as 0.02/MHd, and one as 0.025/MHd. If you click on the "hire"link, the correct prices are shown, but as the availability list is sorted by price, the one with the wrong price quoted shows up a lot further down than it should.
