I support your take over though.

Thank you for that. I assure you I will only moderate spam, NSFW, and malicious links, just like the forum moderators.

slack is garbage.

I know a lot of people do not like the closed nature of slack. But we will do a multi-pronged approach.

Slack is for people who want to get more deeply involved. If you are just a bystander who wants regular updates on bitcointalk, I'll try to accommodate that the best I can.

You are welcome here.

Some inspiration where this could lead:

https://vimeo.com/155543584

If there is a right vision with focus, SHIFT could focus on a certain type of smart contracts that enable automation of industry specific tasks. The focus on one specific industry will make things much easier (not saying easy) and faster to achieve progress than wanting to build a platform for everyone (e.g. Ethereum).

The community could also suggest what kind of industries are in most need for blockchain automation via smart contracts.

If I get thinks right, the question is whether SHIFT focuses on building blockchains or building smart contracts, or what else comes to your mind?

Shift develops [a defined offering]

to help [a target audience]

[solve a problem]

[with secret sauce].

This is the pitching model from Adeo Ressi that I found very useful for startups in the past.
It also explains secret sauce: https://vimeo.com/16447520

Ethereum will be a workshop for developers for a while, before rising as a multigiant will multiplex applications.

SHIFT could be the side giant with a specialized hammer, building powerful tools for the chosen industry:

Which industry do you think of?

Which industry would most benefit from blockchain technology at it's core that could not just easily be solved with a less flexible solution than Ethereums source code?

Maybe the one you even work in?

Happy to discuss.

Thank you for this. I will start thinking.

I do not have a concrete development roadmap yet except to restore the community back to health.

Unlike the previous developer, I will not disappear, at least not until I get a properly qualified team together.

I'm a crypto-organizer and I am invested in Shift, so I want to see it healthy. I do not trust the other developer, like others here, because the timing of his return is suspect.

Please join the slack channel. I haven't made time for this project, but I am slowly opening up my schedule to make time and get it rolling. I will check in every day and keep the community organized.

The next step after we have a recruitment push for this thread and the slack channel is to get a block explorer together.

What will the new developers do once the 91k donations are spent and no price rise? Nothing, but they will for sure know how the original SHF dev felt.

I am not asking for donations yet. Please sign up for slack and move to the other thread if you would like to support the takeover.

I sent out a bunch of invitations to the slack channel. Please PM me if you would like to join.

Website is 95% done already.

Would you mind donate us what has already been done? I would understand if you're against it, but you also said you were ready to help, so...

What Maverick69 is saying is that he would like access to the website materials that the original developer has in hand, so that Maverick69 can create the website at a new URL.
47  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][SHIFT] 1st ETH fork | UPDATE v0.4.0 | GUI WALLET on: February 16, 2016, 05:16:53 PM

I set up a shift slack at https://shiftnrg.slack.com/

Please PM me with an email address and I will send you an invite.

I encourage everyone to migrate to the takeover thread.

48  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: ANN: Shift [SHF] Takeover Thread on: February 16, 2016, 08:33:18 AM
So is this alive, what is progress right now?

Progress is going to be slow at first because I decided to pick this up on the spur of the moment.

For now, please PM me with an email address for slack.

The slack is https://shiftnrg.slack.com/

We'll build a community in the slack and here.

Please remember, I'm just an organizer, but I've helped with a lot of coins. I am working on finding devs. I have a lead or two, but none who want to be the front man yet.

The first step of development will be to catch up with the ethereum commits. Then we'll look for something that can distinguish the coin.

If you want to improve the value of your investment, please help with the slack membership drive immediately. Just ask members to PM me with their email addresses. Slack email addresses can be throwaway addresses like https://www.guerrillamail.com/ or http://www.yopmail.com/
49  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: ANN: Shift [SHF] Takeover Thread on: February 15, 2016, 01:12:23 AM
This is a great overwhelming positive response.

The most critical thing is that we will need to convince the old developer to ask bittrex to refer to the repository linked in the OP here. Let's ask as a community in the other thread and see what his response is.

I will PM anyone who posts further vitriol on the other thread to please stop, in order to minimize any damage.

The first stage is to get organized. Today is a busy day for me, so give me a day or so to set some things up. I'll begin the organization almost immediately. Please stay tuned.
50  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][SHIFT] 1st ETH fork | UPDATE v0.4.0 | GUI WALLET on: February 14, 2016, 10:33:11 PM
Hi, I think you should continue to the shift project, you can do it. network works, bittrex work, first need blockexplorer and nodes, how much it costs?

If you give this scammer dev 1 SHF, you are an idiot. He'll dump it immediately just like he did the premine.

There really is no need for all of this vitriol. In the end it hurts the coin.

You are correct about one thing: this dev has failed before so it is likely he will fail again and any sort of re-launch or donation is a very big risk with a very poor probable outcome.

I have started a new thread. I will begin the search for a new developer to take this project over.

51  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / ANN: Shift [SHF] Takeover Thread on: February 14, 2016, 10:32:15 PM

TAKEOVER

Shift is the first fork of ethereum and was the first to release a GUI wallet.

The original Shift developer has admitted to spending the entire premine, but did little to develop the currency itself. After disappearing for several weeks, the original developer reemerged after the second ethereum clone, expanse, exploded in price. He now asks for bounties in advance of any development.

The original developer's highly suspect actions suggest that he can not be trusted with further funds. This thread has been started to keep Shift alive and on a positive development trajectory.

The proposal is as follows:

1. Fork the Shift repositories in case the original developer takes the old ones down in spite (done).
2. Find a competent development team to adopt the project.
3. Fund this team using community donations to a block chain escrow account that is controlled by community consensus.
4. Lock the block chain by hard checkpoint onto the new development tree, preventing any malicious attempts by the former developer to undermine the currency with bad releases.
5. Attempt to get bittrex to convert to the new development tree. If they refuse, find other exchanges that will use it. This may result in a fork at some point, at which time the most active development tree will likely be adopted by all exchanges.

The new github repository is here: https://github.com/shift-takeover/

Please remember the new development tree has not been adopted yet by any exchange.

Currently, the only thing required of the community is to begin activity in this new thread.

MISSION

SHIFT is based on Ethereum and represents its first fork. This enables smart contracts and a full turing-complete
contract programming language.

SHIFT will offer bounties for individuals that help the network grow by pushing decentralized applications onto the
SHIFT blockchain. Our aim and hope is to make SHIFT a competitively sized network in regards to number of nodes
and dapps.

Next to the internal developments we are looking to actively sponsor and incentivize a continuous and rapid evolution
of the platform via bounties and development funds, provided from the existing premine.

After a minimum of 2 Million SHF mined, holders will have the ability to vote on future means of
distribution, i.e. when and how a switch to a pure PoS or hybrid PoW-PoS system will take place.

Relaunch what though? This coin is working fine right?

Are you going to add in a new premine for a DAO? Are you planning on switching to Ethereum 2.0 Proof of Stake Casper? I hear Casper will be written in Scala and the current Solidity contract language might not work anymore.

No additional premine. It should be community funded. There could easily be 100k SHF for a DAO.

The community should reject any dev taking a premine.

I will find one that can do this for a bounty by the community paid to a DAO and released over time with community consent.

53  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][SHIFT] 1st ETH fork | UPDATE v0.4.0 | GUI WALLET on: February 12, 2016, 06:46:20 AM
The dev dumped it.

Going forward, the best way to fund this coin is to have a smart contract community-funded community-escrow, like EXP has, and to reject any offers of a takeover that include an additional premine from the chain.

Quote
Q: What is the reserve? Why is there one?
A: The reserve is a set of funds managed by the Expanse Organization. These reserve funds are managed directly by the decentralized organization using smart contracts running on Expanse. The organization's funds are locked in a contract and made progressively available to the organization distributed evenly over time. 10% of the community reserve (1.1m exp) will be distributed to the foundation core slowly over time for long term development costs, with only 10% of that total available at launch to help with development and pay for initial bounties, with the rest of the foundation reserve to be slowly distributed to the team over a year using smart contracts, and the remaining 90% is to be used as determined by the Expanse Organization as a whole.

Q: How do we know the reserve won’t be dumped on an exchange?
A: The vast majority of the reserve is controlled directly by the Expanse Organization decentralized entity, and is locked with smart contracts. Any use of the Organization's funds requires the mutually voted majority between the community, developers, and advisory board. It would not be possible to sell without mutual approval. Additionally, the funds are unlocked to the organization over a distributed time frame.

So, basically create a DAO that will slowly distribute the funds to the devteam, requiring majority vote on any changes?

Yes. This is the only way to ensure that their isn't a repeat of what the original dev did.
54  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][SHIFT] 1st ETH fork | UPDATE v0.4.0 | GUI WALLET on: February 12, 2016, 03:51:19 AM
There shouldn't be a new premine. There should be an escrowed donation fund from the community, like EXP has.

Do explain how it will work? EXP launched with 15% premine AFAIR.

The dev dumped it.

Going forward, the best way to fund this coin is to have a smart contract community-funded community-escrow, like EXP has, and to reject any offers of a takeover that include an additional premine from the chain.
55  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][SHIFT] 1st ETH fork | UPDATE v0.4.0 | GUI WALLET on: February 12, 2016, 03:12:21 AM
Tracking this one for some time, let's see if possible to quickly revive it.

Couple of questions:
1) Any other coders here?
2) Will the community be ready for hard-fork with a new pre-mine, enough to cover the services and systems?
3) Will the developer even accept new team taking control?

Who cares what the current developer wants?

He has dumped and moved on and didn't even bother buying when it was cheap.

There shouldn't be a new premine. There should be an escrowed donation fund from the community, like EXP has.
56  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][SHIFT] 1st ETH fork | UPDATE v0.4.0 | GUI WALLET on: February 12, 2016, 02:18:15 AM
This is actually a golden opportunity. The dev completely dumped his free premine. So this coin is clean.

It's only on trex. They may not want to use forked sources, but other exchanges might. We could hard code a fork and get the community to adopt the new fork. I know some devs who are very good.

The original dev did a great job here. This coin works perfectly and has some innovation. There is no reason it should stop there.

Coins are for the community. We can take this one over. It will always be the original ETH clone, do all the things that ETH does, and get them done for less money.

how to generate specific address for example Dsig0tik3dXXXXXXXXX ?))
We are currently working on that function, but it might take a little longer since it's using blake256 algo.

The mining algorithm isn't used to make addresses.  Roll Eyes

Then Founders, (c0) get $10,000 per week just from PoS awards.

Isn't that good news?

From the OP: "Coins held by Company 0 will be used to fund its ongoing work on open-source projects, such as Decred and btcsuite."

Time to take a new FUD angle.

Same old crap.
Fudge the forecast figures.

Most here too dull to see past their free shares.

Look, if you want to make yourself sound credible, you can't just dismiss the entire project. It reeks too much of fanboy bias. I don't know what you are a fanboy of, but I'm about 99% confident it is a competing project.

To be credible, you have to acknowledge both strengths and weaknesses and then demonstrate how the weaknesses outweigh the strengths or that the weaknesses result in a fundamental flaw that undermines the viability of the project. You've done absolutely none of that.

Yes, you've focused on negatives, but as it stands you have amplified them to the point of distortion. That's just bad rhetoric and basically invalidates any substance that may exist in anything you write. In other words, you've hung yourself while shooting yourself in the foot.

Try harder.

Usually the airdrop ensures that everyone except for the community will get the Decrepit coins.

Anyways, i've just signed up, i'm in. Let's see if i have more chances of receiving this shitcoin than to win the Powerball. I doubt it.

Looks like the future pumpers hired the big guns to FUD this one. I'm definitely in.
