I just made an order for a 5x 280x Mining rig for ~2200. I'm curious if it's still viable to mine and break even or make a profit after a couple months. Are alt coins difficulties destined to keep dropping? How near in the future do you think this rig would be losing money?
Thanks in advance, Matt.
Welcome to the crypto coin mining world. You are investing quite a money I see.You can break even or go in profit in a couple of months if you mine the most profitable coins. As for losing money difficulty for the very famous coins like bitcoin, litecoin etc keep increasing. They will never decrease thats for sure. You will see coins like Dogecoin and some others difficulty goes up and down depending on the condition. Also new coins keep coming every few days and some of them go big.You can mine those and see where they go to.You have to keep your eyes open in the mining world. Have a look at this site every now and then: http://www.coinwarz.com/cryptocurrencyBest of luck. Thanks for the great response. One of the reasons of making this rig was to speculate into new coins and possibly join a profit pool like multipool or hashcows. I've been trading on crypsty and have been doing pretty good so I figured this was the next step. I just don't know much about mining but I've been building computers for a while so I figured it'd go good.

Thanks in advance, Matt.

LifeIsWorthLivingCoin? Maybe have block sizes inverse to the value of bitcoin so when bitcoin prices are crashing, feel comforted that you're getting millions of LIWLCs.
Could prevent suicide.. I'm in.

ATTENTION!!!
I have a Kickstarter already wrote out for raising funds for a CatCoin BIllboard!
The next step before I can publish the Kickstarter is for us to agree on who will handle the kickstarter account
We need a respected member of the CatCoin community who has an Amazon payments business account in order to accept credit card Payments on top of other payment methods
It will be relativity easy for us to raise the funds needed and make cryptocurrency history!!
Lets get on this cats meow! Right meow?

Installing new card drivers now. Tense moment as I see whether my PSU can handle two high powered cards. I'm trying to get a new gpu aswell to help with the hash rate, don't know if I should get a 7950, a 280x or a 290, kind of tight on money right now and although it's an investiment with return so I don't know how should I handle this .. Well, I have it working alongside my GTX 670 now. The R9 280x provides nice bang for buck, but it runs pretty hot. It's fine though, as they can take the heat, but when it gets to max temp I drop from 700mhash/sec to 635mhash/sec, so realistically to get max performance I'll need to watercool it. It's a bit annoying that I bought the best performing/cheapest R9 280x that I could find, because I'll have to buy a Universal GPU waterblock to cool it now, as it's a non-reference board. Oh well. It'll still be way better than the stock air cooler. A decent 240 radiator should keep it running at 700mhash. The water cooling should pay itself off over time via increased lifespan and possible overclocking, a little risky for long term use though.
