41  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: VISA drops Americas largest gun shop on: September 28, 2013, 09:21:58 PM
Remember that there are hundreds of credit card processors out there. This is just one that doesn't want to do business with shops that sell fire arms. There is probably another that won't do business with the porn industry. Its odd that they allowed the gun shop in as a customer in the first place and decided to terminate their account which is the only reason this is even remotely news.
42  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: VISA drops Americas largest gun shop on: September 28, 2013, 09:04:54 PM
This is the free market at work. If the card processor doesn't approve of gun sales, then they don't have to keep their customers that sell guns. Its not a guaranteed right that a credit card processor has to give you services.

I fully support the responsible owning and use of firearms, I also like to see the free market in action.
43  Bitcoin / Press / Re: 2013-07-27: nbcnews.com - In Bitcoin we trust: The Berlin district where virtual on: July 29, 2013, 11:57:01 AM
Wow, that was a pretty good news bit. They had their facts straight though not very deep, they mentioned both positive and negative information while staying neutral or even slightly pro bitcoin.
44  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: GPU mining is dead now. on: July 02, 2013, 01:15:28 AM
Funny, I opened a LTC calc, and a BTC calc, entered 600mh/s BTC and 600kh/s LTC (roughly what a 7950 will do on either coin give or take a bit).

BTC= $1.30 per day
LTC= $2.18 per day

Seems like LTC is better to mine. Maybe not quite double, but still considerably better.

You can also just look at https://coinotron.com to see how a few different coins compare in mining value.
45  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / odd power draw with 7950s. 2 cards is 460, 3 cards is 800 on: June 22, 2013, 09:58:15 PM
I'm wondering if anyone has noticed a similar effect when going from two to three 7950 cards. Running two 7950s (I've tried several models from saphire, MSI, powercolor) the total system draw is between 450 and 470 watts at the wall (this includes mobo and 55watt Intel CPU). Using the same MB/CPU and the same type of card for the third card bumps the power draw up to 790-815 watts at the wall. If we assume the power draw when running two cards in 225 watts per card, then adding the third should only put the total around 680-700. I've tried 3 different gold rated power supplies: 750w, 850w and 1000w, and its the same on each. My initial thought was that I was hitting the max of the 750w PSU and losing a lot of efficiency, but the 1000w PSU has essentially identical results.

Just wondering if anyone has seen this, or knows why this would happen

48  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: FinCEN's definition of a Money Exchanger on: June 12, 2013, 10:58:05 AM
The flip side of that would also be interesting: Can I buy/sell a giftcard with/for bitcoin without being a money exchanger?

51  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Gyft and BitPay Open 50,000 Retail Locations to Bitcoins on: May 12, 2013, 01:54:01 AM
1.4.3 just became available on the play store, and there is now a "Buy" button so you don't have to jump through hoops to send it to yourself. Makes the app perfect, now if only there were a few more gift certificates you could buy. Target would be great, then you could buy groceries.
52  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin article on Wikipedia on: May 09, 2013, 08:40:33 PM
I had to go look up the US dollar on Wikipedia to see that for my own eyes. Its really there, and that is really awesome.
53  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Gyft and BitPay Open 50,000 Retail Locations to Bitcoins on: May 09, 2013, 05:26:03 PM
they just published an update to the App to allow self-purchases.

doesn't look like the one in the android play store has this newly added feature. Any idea the version umber that will have this, or when it should hit the play store?
54  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Gyft and BitPay Open 50,000 Retail Locations to Bitcoins on: May 09, 2013, 03:57:18 PM
so far I can see that you have to "send" a gift card to be able to buy, but I couldn't get my own email address to show up in the "friends" list of who I could send it to. I was able to select another contact then manually modify the email address, but then the app locked when I hit process order.

Seems like a great idea, if it works right. Really need to add the ability to "buy" a gift card for yourself, instead of having to send it.
55  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Gyft and BitPay Open 50,000 Retail Locations to Bitcoins on: May 09, 2013, 02:52:00 PM
One step closer to being able to spend bitcoins anywhere.

57  Economy / Speculation / Re: Recovery or bull trap? on: April 10, 2013, 09:09:12 PM
When you look back in a few weeks while we're sitting at $500/BTC you'll see that we just left a bear trap.
58  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: Amagi Metals - Largest Selection of Gold & Silver for Bitcoins on: April 04, 2013, 07:32:44 PM
Our prices can now be displayed in bitcoins!!!!!

On the top right there is a currency selector dropdown. Prices can be displayed in British Pounds, USD, Bitcoins, or Euros!

Looks awesome with the BTC price. You may need to increase the number of digits displayed though. Most of the 1% discounts show the same amount as the list price.
