41  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Could the Federal Reserve Issue Their Own Cryptocurrency? on: March 21, 2015, 01:27:51 AM
No, it can't. No way.
It would be totally illegal.

The Federal Reserve, nor any central bank, doesn't have the power to create a new currency. It's duty is to protect, or control, or develop (depending on circumstances) the currency which is legal tender in the country. It cannot create a new currency, and it cannot change the currency it's working with.

They could if they just said that they were "reformatting" the way that the USD is transacted within the banking system and that they are moving to a USDCoin that essentially just takes over the place of the physical USD and digital USD in bank account. They could also create an addendum to the current laws and they would sell the addendum as "we need to adapt the law to the current advances in cryptocurrencies that are among us".

The real question becomes this: IF the fed did create their own coin, would you trade all of your bitcoins in for them? I don't think so...

Also they could create "fake" hard caps to the currency and then they would need to hardfork it every few years to increase the cap, much like they need to vote on "increasing the debt ceiling" every few years...

Sorry, but the Federal Reserve cannot change any law. It can certainly look at cryptocurrencies, but it would require a vote from congress to allow it to change from paper money to virtual currency.

Ok you maybe right with that statement, but in reality it is the federal reserve of private bankers who create most if not all of the financial laws we have today and have done so for decades from the moment they stole America.

To answer the op they have no need to create their own crypto when they have total control anyway, they of course will one day change from the paper to some form of credit system but it won't be the crypto we know and love it will be something with total control like they have now.
42  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is Regulation The End For Bitcoin? on: March 21, 2015, 01:01:55 AM
They are looking to control and regulate Bitcoin when the Bitcoin is made to not be controlled and regulated. In my opinion the only really thing they can do is to forbidden internet access as other member notice above but where? to whole world? so i found an end as impossible, a disaster maybe...  Cool

Kind Regards,
BTC-Bank.

Yes they will try and do what they can to control i mean regulate but that is not going to get them anywhere as you have stated above they will not be able to. What they will be able to regulate i mean control would be exchanges and as we speak the UK government are planning to do exactly that which will not be good by any means.

More than likely we can expect the exchanges to get regulated and then massive fee's will be a result because the governments obviously want their bit as well as they always do.

It will not be the end but i could be fairly annoying jumping threw hoops for these people.

Except if we all recognize it for what it is build for?Which is money we don't need to exchange it we need to use it between us sure they can control mean regulate companies but not us and not all the world.. the idea of Bitcoin is not an investment opportunity which we just convert it to pounds, dollars, euros or else but is to use it as the form of payment and money this is the future and its future is only in our hands my friend.  Smiley

Kind Regards,
BTC-Bank.

Most of us do recognize but as we speak the only real way to get bitcoin to start is threw an exchange unfortunately, but we will soon have decentralized exchanges then they can only regulate what is already centralized which will end up becoming obsolete.

Bithalo is the first steps towards true bitcoin freedom away from the control and regulations and scams. It is p2p and uses smartcontracts when the time is right we do have places to go like this away from the regulations but at the moment people are comfortable with what we have.

There are great minds working to keep this what it should be thankfully Smiley
43  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Carve a private key into a stone? on: March 21, 2015, 12:54:27 AM
I was thinking about long term wallets and how the steel wallets are neat and paper wallets are fine but what about a long term wallet to last for hundreds of years,

You are on the right track i to had these thoughts and i finished up when i remembered something from school 20years previously we dug a hole and buried a time capsule.

You could in grave a stone deeply and then place it in a time capsule 'steel casing' and then it is as safe as can be from anything and everything for as long as needed.

and you cant surfe all of them in one day or even if you spent 16 hours and manage to use them all still you will not even make live 2$
thats if you dont win big, if you have a good day, you can make a lil dough

I spent a few weeks hitting these daily when i first got into bitcoin you know how many 'big' wins i ever had?

0

I never won a single jackpot from these faucets and i would put money and bet on hardly anyone else ever having a big win ever and there are a lot of people who have spent a lot of time in these faucets.

If there was ever a win it was probably by the faucet owner himself lol

Jokes aside they are good for beginners but no good for money making..
46  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Woke up today and lost all my Bitcoins ! on: March 20, 2015, 09:11:58 PM
Additionally, it is probably a good idea to spread your btc balance across a few addresses instead of storing them all in one address. If for some reason, that private key was compromised, you wouldn't have all your eggs in one basket. Spreads the risk out at least a little bit. Of course that doesn't matter if they have access to the wallet.

This is what i do and i have yet to have any problems across all my addresses luckily or because i keep on to my computer security either way i am yet to have any stolen thankfully.

Like you say it spreads the risk and you shouldn't lose them all plus you should have cold storage for anything over 5btc.

Not sure the op actually lost anything though are we.
47  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Which Offline Wallet on: March 20, 2015, 01:36:41 AM
(My general approach for BTC is to just buy a few and hold them.  If BTC goes global, I'll be happy, if not, and BTC becomes obsolete, no big loss.)

So, let's suppose I chose Electrum, which seems to be one of the easier ones to use.

If I download the wallet to a computer, can I then move the BTCs to an external HDD?  Or, do I have to store them only on the computer?  It's just that I have a netbook I don't use much with Windows 7 starter and thought I could use that.  The question is, what happens if the HDD on the netbook fails, do I lose the BTCs?

Electrum is a great choice. Not only is it easy to use, it is a deterministic wallet.
A seed is initially generated and you can restore your wallet from that. You do not have to worry about your HDD failing. Smiley

Is electrum an offline wallet though because i never thought it was, trezor or ledger is the top 2 wallets i would recommend  but for what you want i would lean towards the ledger wallet, take a look Smiley

Welcome and good luck

I would agree with trezor and ledger being popular for your cold storage.

Just be careful where you keep the recovery words.

I am terrible with mine i send them to emails and certain accounts that i really should not, where would you recommend keeping them which is safe enough for the average user?

I don't have many so i am kind of lax but i would prefer better practices for obvious reasons maybe one day i will have enough to be worth stealing at the moment i don't though Sad lol
48  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Best operative system? on: March 20, 2015, 01:33:36 AM
What is the best opertive system gfor your pc in order to preserve bitcoins ?? BTC

It is more a question how well do you know security because obviously windows has its floors but someone highly knowledgeable will be able to store their coins and have them safer than someone who barley knows what they are doing but is using a safer system like linux, i guess more than operating system it is who is using it, read learn about all os's and then you will be equipped to keep your coins safe with any system.

Good luck

50  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: List of Major Bitcoin Heists, Thefts, Hacks, Scams, and Losses on: March 20, 2015, 01:12:32 AM
Anybody know of evidence these funds have been dumped? I figure the $40 price drop the last day or so is either because the Evolution stash was dumped, or people rushed to sell in expectation it would be dumped, and caused a panic-dump instead.

It seems unlikely that the thieves will try to sell the stolen coins directly on an exchange.  (Wasn't there a case of an exchange freezing and returning cryptocoins that had been stolen and deposited there by the thief?)

The thieves could swap those coins off-exchange with some large criminal mafia; say 5 stolen coins for 1 "clean" coin.  The mafia could keep the coins until they "cooled off", or use them for other criminal trades.  Meanwhile the thieves could sell the clean coins on the exchanges, and withdraw the cash to legit bank accounts --- and no one would be able to connect that money to the theft.

Thieves probably use mixers, there are much smaller expenses to get hard to trace coins in return. For such a large amount like 130K BTC they will probably have to split in smaller batches before they send it to mixers, no mixer has big enough volume for the coins to be untraceable.

Isn't it possible for a mixer to identify stolen coins once deposited and "seize" the coins temporarily to return them to the rightful owner?

I don't think any mixer would want to give a thief clean coins and get dirty coins in return.

It will ruin their name and make them equally as bad if they know they mixed stolen coins just to scoop up a good fee.

You would think that but the fact that they clean drug  dealers and takers coins in an attempt to help them cover their tracks makes me believe they would not care if the coins were stolen or not i maybe wrong of course but i doubt it. If anything they would probably keep the coins them self and that would be the second theft of coins, 'theory' more than likely just clean them for them..

OP that is a well put together post with all the information needed, awesome to see that much effort has gone into it  thanks

Hi

Want to earn some little cash. (on some of them, you can even earn 0.1 BTC)
Enjoy

You can even earn 0.1bitcoin what from faucets, how? That will take a month or more to get to 0.1btc or am i missing something like a 1 in 10,000 chance of winning 0.1btc.

Nice list when you sort it out more to less as the previous post said, good luck with it Smiley
52  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is Regulation The End For Bitcoin? on: March 20, 2015, 01:00:51 AM
No it is not the end of bitcoin when it gets regulated and it will be regulated very soon ,this may the UK government are looking into it they want to learn more and have spent 12 million to research it before they decide on how to do it to apparently make it a safer place for both investors and merchants. Chances are when they have there foot in the door they will try to control as much as they can..
53  Economy / Speculation / Re: Any possibility that these heists will work in our favor? on: March 20, 2015, 12:05:43 AM
Someone else just got robbed, another day, another bitcoin.  I need someone who knows what they are doing to tell me if this somehow can work in the benefit of bitcoin,I know it takes a beating because of it but it rebounds. Any chance that somehow these robberies will make it rebound even greater because of the scarcity of the bitcoin?wait nvm, i figure they just sell it. sigh.

ill just keep this thought up for your amusement.

They will sell some but it depends how much they have stolen whether they really need the fiat and many other reasons, it can be good for people that see how scared the market gets over little things and the panic sellers let their stash go to someone who realizes what he is doing and buys them up so in a way the theft did help the market for at least until there is a dump of the stolen coins. In the overall scheme of things though no any thefts of bitcoin is not good and never will be only for a few..
54  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Sick of the confirmation time... on: March 19, 2015, 11:45:22 PM
What is holding 0 confirmations from happening? Because i feel what you are saying OP it can be super annoying waiting for a transaction to get a confirm and a little scary if you have a large amount try to confirm. Is there anyway to solve this? Because if there is not then we just need to accept it and move on, as long as you are not really in need like i have been in a poker tourny waiting for it to confirm so i could get a add on but is that confirmation times fault or should i have prepared and sent earlier, i go with the latter..
55  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do you trust yourself to manage your own private keys? on: March 19, 2015, 11:40:21 PM
So what's the choice?
Should I trust myself, or should I trust some unknown service, in some foreign country?

I've chosen to trust myself.

And you would be a winner at least whatever happens you only have your self to blame if you do something wrong or lack on security and it gets stolen. I trust myself 100% just as i do with all my finances they will hopefully always be in my control so no nasty surprises come my way.
56  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Did you earn some bitcoin today? on: March 19, 2015, 11:35:49 PM
Haven't done my faucet rounds in a while now but I made a trade on the marketplace so that is something.

I remember the good old days of my faucet rounds all day earning about 10cents but i learned a lot and would do it again even though they do need to pay more.

I got lucky today op and won around 0.23btc and i actually walked away from the table which is good news as i usually don't lol My investments hit the dirt so i am at a loss overall but onwards and upwards.

Lol i think he was being sarcastic to be honest maybe not take things so serious and read and you would see Smiley

She likes to talk aha found her quite amusing she knows lots about bitcoin and the ways of the world so my hat of to her and hope her business does well in the future..

58  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Did you earn some bitcoin today? on: March 15, 2015, 10:57:29 PM
no  Sad
that's too bad
you can earn some btc for renting your signature space
even it's just a little but better than nothing Wink

I don't write here very frequently, but I'll try.

Ah, well, to be making a decent amount, you should be able to write a decent amount. The bitmixer.io campaign (the one I'm in right now) accepts you if you make 0 posts a week, you just won't get any coins.

That is good that they will not kick you if you have 0 posts or do they? For the campaign i am in i have to post a minimum of 100 a month which is a bit of a pain if i am honest because chances are i will post 70 something then they have free advertisement Smiley

Today i have more money trading what has been good today for me has been bitbay and e-cash Smiley)
59  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Woke up today and lost all my Bitcoins ! on: March 15, 2015, 10:54:17 PM

60  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Any reports of Bitcoin being taught at your school? on: March 15, 2015, 10:47:23 PM
Nope. 95% of the students don't even know what bitcoin is at my school. Even the ones who do don't really believe in it. They think it's all stupid internet crap. We'll show them! Grin right? .....right....?

It is surprising as i thought they would be into bitcoin and all the tech which has been created around it, find it very strange. We need these guys to understand and want to join the movement, they will be a great addition granted they won't have much to buy because of their expenditures but hopefully that will stick and they might create business here or go on to a good job and buy as a investment, they will help no end imho.
