41  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Crypto Hacks, Rug Pulls Led to $473M Worth of Losses in 2024: Immunefi on: June 03, 2024, 05:21:11 AM
Yeah yesterday Velocore, basically a dex on zksync was hacked. Around $10M was stolen from their liquidity pool. Basically the same way as a bridge getting hacked and their users who provided liquidity in the pool are all drained.

Velocore was actually suppose to be very secure because they passed security audit. But now we have proof that those audits are useless.

Pretty much every smart contract out there is prone to getting exploited. Never keep large amounts on any smart contract.
42  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Lessons from 50 Cent's Adoption of Bitcoin for Album Sales 10 Years Ago on: June 03, 2024, 05:16:35 AM
Since he used Bitpay, I am pretty sure he didn’t get actually paid in bitcoin but someone sent Bitcoin to Bitpay, it automatically converted it to fiat and he was paid in fiat.

This is similar to coinbase merchant payment processor. Many sites can accept Bitcoin but it’s basically sold immediately on the open market and converted to fiat and sent to the merchant. They don’t hold any bitcoins due to its volatility.

43  Economy / Speculation / Re: It's starting to feel like 2008 all over again... on: June 03, 2024, 05:13:22 AM
Yeah it’s definitely crazy here in Canada. We had records number of immigration last year and it’s still going up. But the issue isn’t only the immigrants which are coming, it’s the international student who will end up getting a permanent resident status because they finished school and started to work. If you add up the international student the numbers are way above the quota.

It’s so bad here people are moving across the country for cheaper housing. We got like 10 people sharing a 2 bedroom apartment or like 15-20 people living in a single family home. It’s ridiculous how crazy it has gotten but people need a roof over their head obviously.
44  Economy / Speculation / Re: It's starting to feel like 2008 all over again... on: June 02, 2024, 05:15:23 AM
The issue this year compared to 2008 is that there is a shortage of inventory now compared to 2008 when there was a surplus.

We got lots of new immigrants and they all need a place to live. We got Very high interest rates so nobody wants to upgrade their current house because they would need to pay the higher rate. So they don’t list it for sale and there is less inventory.

So I don’t think we will see a housing crash like in 2008.
45  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: I quit binance futures trading and i do now only solana meme coins trading on: June 01, 2024, 10:15:51 PM
I tried also trading memecoins and almost everything I bought was a rug.

I went on Dexscreener and bought the new coins which are out for less than 1-2 hours, and 99% of them rugged within 6 hours.

Then I only bought the top 10-20 coins on the Dexscreener main page and still can't turn a profit. 50% of the coins I buy, go down 50% almost immediately and the rest maybe 2x or 3x and they go back to breakeven and I sell. Maybe you got some secret formula but it just doesn't work for me. Seems most of the meme coins are ponzi's. You only make money if you buy them early.
46  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Is Gambling A Hobby? on: June 01, 2024, 10:09:02 PM
Gambling is not the only hobby which costs us money. There are people who play the Lotto, that also can get expensive and the chances of actually being in the green are slim the more lottos you buy. There are also people who smoke cigarettes. That is also expensive and not only does it drain your bank account but its bad for your lungs long term.

There are people whois hobby can be racing cars. They spend tons of money on the vehicle, modifications, gasoline, track day fees, etc and all they do is drive it in a circle, go nowhere and get nothing out of it other than fun.

This is similar to how gambling is to most people. You do it for fun. But when you are gambling to the point where you keep your bank account empty or you are borrowing money to gamble, then its a problem and considered an addiction instead of a hobby.
47  Economy / Gambling / Re: Unreasonable Withdrawal Limits on Betiro on: June 01, 2024, 09:59:37 PM
Yeah like others i've never head of this gambling website. At first I assumed it was a non-crypto type of casino but you mentioned USDT so its indeed a crypto casino.

I don't agree with this type of behaviour they are treating you with. I guess its better to have a $500 daily withdraw limit than get the entire balance frozen, however its shady how they

1) Never stated the $500 daily withdraw limit
2) Only stated 50000 EUR monthly limit but didn't uphold it
3) Gave you a lower monthly limit when you contacted support.

My advice, keep withdrawing the $500 a day until balance it empty and never use the website again.
48  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Im looking for passive ways to earn yield daily weekly ? on: June 01, 2024, 04:56:35 AM
staking stable assets will not be profitable. and most won't make a good enough deal for you. most platforms will not provide good offers for staking. If you find one that's good enough and provides a large ROI, I suspect it's likely to end up being a fraud scheme.

just a suggestion, use your USDT to buy Bitcoin but that's for the long term. Never think you will get big returns from any asset in the short term. unless you are lucky in memecoin.

At the moment you can provide liquidity in many DEX and you can earn 15-20%.

One Solana you got a lending platform called Solend and you can earn 15% yield there. There are also more LP services which pay a similar amount.

15-20% is alot, especially for a stable coin. About 3-4x what you are getting at the bank.

Keep in mind it’s risky due to smart contract risk. There might be some exploit and funds might get drained, so don’t put all your money in one.
49  Economy / Economics / Re: Used cars and real estate market very volatile and a lot people will fomo in on: June 01, 2024, 04:53:06 AM
Cars are pretty much almost back to normal. You go to many dealer lots and they are full of cars, many of them nowhere to park and some are parked on the grass. Unfortunately prices are nowhere near 2019 and who knows if it will ever be but at least you can try and haggle somewhat.

Real estate is a different story. Due to immigration and high interest rates, supply is low. Since the supply of housing is low the prices are staying high. And people are still paying these prices. Until they build houses faster I don’t see it improving anytime soon.
50  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: List Of The Longest Forum Signature Campaign Above 100wk That Left/Still Active on: May 31, 2024, 08:17:58 PM
I looked at the list and see a typo with the FortuneJack campaign. I actually started with that campaign back in late 2014. From what I recall it might be the longest. I think it ran until 2021 and then a year later it restarted. I think that campaign is very close to a decade or so.

It was also the highest paying because in 2017 when Bitcoin was ripping into $20K, they still made payments in BTC. So you earned way more than $100 a week. Then later on they started to decrease the payouts but for many months, it was paying well above the $100 a week. I think some weeks were maybe $400-$500 or so. Back then Tether wasn't really popular or used with sig campaign.

Anyone here promote FJ back in 2017 should remember.
51  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Forgotten password for a Bitcoin wallet from 2013 recovered, unlocking 43.6 BTC on: May 31, 2024, 04:03:26 AM
Wow didn’t think Roboform actually still existed back then. I think I used it when I had Windows 95. Surprised people were still using it in 2013.

The way they solved the password is interesting. Imagine if you got satoshis exact laptop he used when he created the Genesis block, and changed the clock back to the same date and second. Would you also be able to generate the same private key as satoshi did? I always wondered if this was possible. However we have no idea on the exact hardware that he used.
52  Economy / Economics / Re: April CPI eased to 3.4 from 3.5 in March on: May 31, 2024, 03:57:06 AM
Yes I saw it rally and I looked at the CPI print and was surprised it was only a surprise number off by 0.1%. I am thinking that the markets are just illiquid in May and they swing high and low in both directions on insignificant news.

I don’t know why they treat the monthly CPI as important when in the past we had very low inflation one month and the next month very high inflation. A better indicator would be perhaps a 3 month average which is smoothed out over the longer term.
53  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Mobile Mining scam? Which site do you use for hosting? on: May 30, 2024, 06:50:41 PM
I just don't see any mobile mining actually working long term. You got phone emulators and one can easily emulate hundreds of phones on a single AWS instance. And there is no way to know for sure whether its a legit user or not. This was tried many times in the past and never really caught traction.

Phones are also horrible for constant CPU use, just like a laptop. Its not a good idea long term mining 100% because you will stress the battery and with the constant heat the battery can swell and explode. Most phones require a battery to opperate unlike a laptop where you can remove the battery and mine directly with AC power.
54  Economy / Speculation / Re: Who has to pay taxes on cryptocurrencies? on: May 30, 2024, 06:47:47 PM
Depending on which country you are from, crypto is treated like a commodity and you need to pay taxes on any earnings. Same if you mined it with your laptop in 2009 and same if you got some Uniswap airdrop. There are some countries which treat crypto as tax free but most countries are not under that category.

Consult a tax professional if you are unsure. Many exchanges KYC and they might send your documents over to the IRS or whatever agency handles taxes in your country. They have started to crack down lately because too many people haven't been paying their share.
55  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: What type of a trader/investor is this? on: May 30, 2024, 03:46:36 AM
Yeah this is typical for the type of pump and dump meme coins which are added daily on Solana. Depending on when you enter you can easily 10x and sometimes 100x your money. But the issue is that most of those tokens are rugs. Almost immediately as you enter it starts to drop and within minutes you can be out 50% and within hours your position can be -99%.

It’s a very risky way of making money. Tokens like WIF, SHIB and PEPE were extremely rare to catch and most that did catch those they probably sold way too early.
56  Economy / Speculation / Re: Will Bitcoin Always Be in an Uptrend? on: May 30, 2024, 03:43:24 AM
Since the launch of a bitcoin exchange-traded fund earlier this year, bitcoin has recovered and even surpassed its all-time highs set during the 2021 bull run. But for weeks, it looked like the largest cryptocurrency was trading sideways at best.

We are entering summer and usually summer months, especially August. Are going to be very dry. I try and trade as much as I can but it seems there are no opportunies at the moment. Market is going nowhere.

The etfs are still adding bitcoin so it’s obviously bullish long term. We will see what will happen with the ETH etf. It’s very bullish that crypto has went this far in the financial world. It means that the long term growth will always be positive. But I feel the next few weeks and months will be nothing but sideways trading.
57  Economy / Gambling / Re: Duelbits.com | Casino & Sportsbook | VIP | Instant withdrawals!|ARGENTINA & AVFC on: May 30, 2024, 03:39:24 AM
I haven’t been active much in the gambling section so I am not sure this happened but did Duelbits get hacked in the past?

Just found out on Twitter that the hacker is sending the stolen ETH to Tornado cash to mix it. I read the last few posts and nothing mentioning about a hack so I am assuming this happened a while ago.

Wondering if there was any user funds lost in the hack?
58  Economy / Economics / Re: Hyperinflation - Will it lead Countries to Adopt Bitcoin? on: May 30, 2024, 03:31:29 AM
The issue with bitcoin is that it is very unstable to be used as a currency. Remember Nov 2021, we peaked at around $70K and 1 year later we bottomed at $16K. These types of moves don’t make it an ideal asset to be used as a currency hedge against inflation.

You actually would be better off just using the crypto stablecoins because those are always pegged to $1. However you might as well just use US dollar fiat instead.

They need to overall their entire government and fix their currency. Most likely the currency will be replaced by a new currency and hopefully the new one will holds its value.
59  Economy / Gambling / Re: Casinos not asking for KYC to register and play, but do require it to withdraw on: May 29, 2024, 11:34:23 PM
Its funny, yesterday I was on Youtube and was watching this popular Youtuber who makes videos about counting cards in casinos. He normally does physical casinos but for fun, he decided to see if its possible to count cards at a virtual casino. He was based in UK if I recall.

Anyways he makes an account, makes a deposit, and starts to play and do his documentary. Long story short, you can't count cards at an online casino. He played some more and decided to withdraw the rest of his money because he started to lose. Thats when the problems started. To withdraw he needed to KYC. And this is not a crypto casino, he paid by credit card to fund the account.

He also said it was a hassle getting his KYC approved. He had to submit it multiple times before it went thru. Eventually he got his money back, but it was very stressful.
60  Economy / Speculation / Re: Mtgox coin is moving from cold storage on: May 29, 2024, 04:47:56 AM
We all knew one day it would finally come and those coins would move. Bitcoin at the moment isn’t really shaken up by the market. As you can see there was not much movement due to the news. Maybe because it’s another 4-5 months before it’s actually sent to the retail users.

Bitcoin might survive this dump but I wonder what will happen to BitcoinCash. I am sure many will want to hold some bitcoin but Bitcoin cash most likely they will liquidate. Should be interesting to watch.
