41  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How do I find pools to mine in? on: June 14, 2011, 06:30:08 AM
So I am new to this whole thing (I just heard of BC today)....

I downloaded the main BC client.  How do I find pools to mine in?

It is not just the pool you need - it depends on your hardware as well!
Just downloading the client and start mining won't be enough, because you need a proper graphiccard for that.

Any mining involves a lot of SHA-hashing and the times where a CPU was enough are long gone - a decent CPU will do about 3-6 million hashes per second to solve blocks, but you need to look more at about 250-350 million hashes per second!
Take a look here for a more detailed answer and here for a hardware comparison (you want to look at the columns "Model" and "Mhash/s").

just saw this on twitter. Sending anyone your wallet.dat is NEVER a good idea.

http://allofthem.net/bitcoins/

lol - "verify your wallet" - why in the world should it not be valid?! Cheesy
Nice try though - it is almost like "Send me 1 BTC and send you 2".

Well, as soon as the internet is involved a lot of people stop thinking and then this scam will work (ie "adding personal info to some profile for everybody to see", "showing all your 'friends' where you throw up last weekend", ... Wink )

I like to get whitelisted, because i am not much of a newbie anymore.
I am reading quite long in here without the need to reply until now. I mine since a few weeks, code some parts and i like to answer in slush poolthread.

Before i try to write 5 nonsense replys in a random thread i like to contribute in things where it makes sense Smiley

Thanks alot!

edit: Nevermind - lost couple of hours of mining, couldn't post, but it is solved anyway ..the problems and the newbie restrictions..
