41  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Halcyon - x15 POS - Decentral Anon - Mintpal v2.0 - Nootropics Store on: September 18, 2014, 08:59:32 AM
Being included in the group of coins to be added to Mintpal v2 is great, and the code review of Peersend by Dan is encouraging. Innovative technical features are great, and as a developer I love to see them. But, the thing I like most with HAL right now is the progress the coin is making into real business development by launching a nootropics store.
42  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DRK] Darkcoin | First Anonymous Coin | First X11 | First DGW | Darksend Is Live! on: September 18, 2014, 08:50:14 AM
If you buy it on the market it will put a lot of people on notice and send a message.

Obviously he's not going to buy 47000 DRK in one shot on the open markets - he would only be driving the price up on himself. (However, a seller with that much quantity to sell would likewise be driving the price down on himself if he were to sell on the open market - which is why vertoe might find a willing vendor).

I'm mostly curious to see if he'll report back if he's successful...
43  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][XST] Stealth-Coin.com | Tor | StealthText, World's first anonymous SMS Tx! on: September 18, 2014, 08:47:34 AM
Is there anything on the short term horizon aside from stealth-oriented features? I would love to see more focus on business use cases, features that improve ease of adoption by consumers, etc.
44  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Cinni | PoS | First Coin With Private Encrypted Messaging | No premine on: September 18, 2014, 08:45:30 AM
The short term roadmap/timeline:

  • Add DPOS, aliases, stealth addresses to Cinni. Switching to DPOS would fix all transaction and staking problems. Also in my opinion DPOS is a lot better than normal POS. The alias system would allow people to send coins to aliases instead of addresses, the stealth addresses are for anonymity
  • Launch a beta so people can test on a test chain before the actual release
  • Since switching to a new DPOS chain would require a snapshot, a snapshot would happen before the DPOS update.
Of course since this would cost the exchanges time, I will compensate them for the time they spend on participating in the snapshot from my own money. The snapshot will be very close to the release time of the DPOS update release so exchanges can stop the deposit/withdrawal from the old chain so people don't sell Cinni from the old chain on the market.
  • Release the DPOS update
  • Make a new website for Cinni since I do not have access to the current one.

  • Make a website for the TimeBank DAC
  • Launch the TimeBank DAC beta for people to test it before launch
  • Make a snapshot of Cinni, Bitshares PTS, and Bitshares AGS for the distribution of the TimeBank DAC
  • Launch the TimeBank DAC
  • Make the betting system for TimeBank. The betting system is on time-based things. The longer the bet is, the more it would cost to make. So it will be sort of like a prediction market based on the time it takes for certain things to happen.
Someone can make a bet on how long it takes btc to pass $500 on Bitstamp and it can use a feed to see if btc is $500.

Cinni has 2 more devs on the dev team. We are working as fast as we can and will make sure everything works well.
Thank you for supporting Cinni.

The idea of a snapshot is fairly unique in the history of crypto coins - I'm sure many of us would like to hear more about the details of how that might work as a mechanism in the process of moving to DPOS.
45  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [MarketWatch] Country coins like Guldencoin and Britcoin are growing! on: September 08, 2014, 07:46:54 AM
The crypto landscape seems to go through cycles.. for a few weeks/months IPOs become popular, then fall out of favor. High premines, country coins, etc. have all had their 15 minutes of fame. As you say, real use and adoption will ultimately be the key to any coin's success though.
46  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: ZeusMiners GEN III Volcanos 400Mh/s on: September 08, 2014, 07:44:09 AM
I would expect difficulty increases to make mining with these in late December unlikely to make large profits, but free power always helps. The other thing to consider though: the price of Bitcoin will likely increase in the same time period, making that 1.29 BTC you'll effectively pay being much more than the actual price of US$599, compared to holding btc in the same period.
47  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Problems X11/X13 mining with R9 290 Tri-X OC on: September 08, 2014, 07:36:59 AM
Similar settings for X13 should work fine.
48  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: what are those script hashpower mining at? on: September 08, 2014, 07:00:27 AM
New scrypt coins like Midas, XCash, Shade, etc.
49  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Cloud mining on: September 08, 2014, 06:54:20 AM
No, it isn't.
50  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][XST] Stealth-Coin.com | Tor | StealthSend, World's first anonymous SMS Tx! on: September 08, 2014, 06:46:58 AM
So, guys, does SMS-sending via Stealthcoin's technology works? Have anybody sent SMSs already?

I'm more curious in the centralized SMS gateway aspects and how they plan to prevent ddos and mitm attacks. Thoughts?
51  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][BURST] Burst | Efficient POC Mining | New multipools on: September 08, 2014, 03:43:10 AM
Great coin will be holding for the long haul. Is there an IRC channel for this coin? If not there should be.

Good question.. I tried looking around Freenode in the early days of the coin but didn't find an official channel. Has one been created since then?
52  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN] CoinPayments Coin Vote on: September 08, 2014, 03:39:45 AM
Its nice to see you guys using the voting mechanism to help raise funds for Seans Outpost. I would love to see you add some more interesting/actively developed coins to the vote list though, overall the current list seems a little "meh".
53  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What are some good coins to invest right now for Christmas vacation money? on: September 08, 2014, 03:33:16 AM
NEOS is a viable option, with a dedicated/talented developer. I hold a bit of it myself, as well as IOC and HAL currently. I think HAL has some room to run, but will probably be a shorter term play compared to NEOS and IOC.
54  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Litecoin is officially dead on: September 08, 2014, 03:29:28 AM
Litecoin and Dogecoin fill a niche market for purchasing coins with small values - Like a silver and bronze (copper?) to Bitcoin's gold.

This point is kind of weak... i mean you can buy a fraction of bitcoin and here you go.

Exactly, they fill no niche market. Maybe Dogecoin did since it was used as a tipping currency, but Litecoin is simply a Bitcoin clone aka the first shitcoin.

The Litecoin is "silver" to Bitcoin as "gold" has always been a silly argument to me, since Bitcoin can be as little as one satoshi (0.00000001 BTC => currently worth US$0.00000477). It is hard to imagine a scenario where you actively need values less than that, although at times transaction fees on Bitcoin can be an issue on small amounts. Service-level wallets are an easy solution to that point though.
55  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: How to change timeoffset in our wallet server? on: September 08, 2014, 03:26:56 AM
Try syncing your system time with an NTP server.
56  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: SuperNet, are you in? on: September 08, 2014, 03:25:13 AM
This thread/poll is just a thinly veiled attempt to help pump the IPO.. do your due diligence and invest wisely.
57  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][NEOS]Neoscoin Unique Anon(Arbitrush) Multi-Algo/Multi Exchange Web Wallet! on: September 07, 2014, 10:01:21 PM
hey two turtles!!

haven't said thank you today....so THANK YOU!!

You don't have to thank me but you're welcome =)  I just got done turning a concept into a reality for a new feature I think everyone's going to love.  =)

      Regards,

syntaks

Sweet. Look forward to seeing your new feature - keep up the good work syntaks.
58  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Most profitable algorithm to mine at the moment ? on: September 07, 2014, 09:57:57 PM
Profitability will almost always depend on the specific coin in question, not an algorithm.
59  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [BURST] Burst Mining System - A new miner for BurstCoin on: September 07, 2014, 09:53:17 PM
Thanks for putting some development effort into a new miner for BURST.. I'm sure there are tons of optimizations possible at this stage still.
60  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] BlackCoin (BC/BLK) | PoS | Multipool | Coinkite | WSJ | BlackHalo on: September 07, 2014, 07:38:22 PM
If you're here, I have to assume you're a fan of, and most likely a holder of BlackCoin. The BlackCoin Foundation has set up a miner fund to help us to continue to fund foundation activities into the future and I would ask you to read the following: http://www.blkfeed.com/topic/205/blackcoin-foundation-miner-fund

No.

Whether you want to donate to help us help BlackCoin is your option, but some of us are trying to do the business of BlackCoin and it's not free, that's a simple fact. We understand that there are many BlackCoin holders who are not involved and don't want to be involved, that's another unfortunate fact, but we highly value the people that are and we hope their trust in us will be rewarded. There's a lot going on with BlackCoin that most don't see, but we would love for more people to become involved with your thoughts and ideas. Speak up! "No" is a useless waste of everybody's time. If you've got a better long term funding strategy, we'd love to hear it.

Figuring out a way to reliably fund continued development should be the #1 goal of every coin. BlackCoin has always seemed to recognize that, which is great. A better model than "devs work for free" and "please donate!" has to exist though. I would suggest focusing on building fees into ancillary services like BlackHalo, and route a portion of those fees back into core development.
