42  Other / Obsolete (selling) / Re: Organic Hemp Wick - 0.3BTC per 20ft + Samples for 0.03 BTC! on: June 19, 2011, 11:12:39 PM
I'm used to paying under 10 cents a foot for beeline but you are selling it for over 25 cents a foot.  you do deals on spools or anything?  like a 200 ft spool for 1 btc?

I could do 200 for 1.2 BTC - the .2 just to cover shipping since I'd need to flat rate it.

Totally doable though!

Do you think that 200ft spools might be popular? If I get enough demand I will offer 200 foot spools as part of the normal "menu," as it were.

Thanks,
Shfink
43  Other / Obsolete (selling) / Re: Organic Hemp Wick - Sewing Seeds of Interest on: June 19, 2011, 06:51:55 PM
Do you burn the string by itself just like that? Like a really long candle?

How fast does it burn?

Yes, just burn it by itself, and hold it with the tag. Like a super long candle indeed. ;-)

It burns about 1.5 to 2 inches per minute.
If enough people like it and are interested, I can get glass wick holders - small glass vials with a cork in the top. The cork has a hollow metal tube going through the center. Put the wick in it and string it through the top, boom, you got a sexy glass lighter!

I may purchase this in the near future.

Thanks dank!

If you like the wick and refer your friends there is free wick in it for you as well.

Great Product, Hang in there...Smiley

I will! That's why I put "sewing seeds" in the topic. :-D
PM if you want a sample! Maybe you can send me a little quartz, I love gems.

Got a nice pendant with a perfect 1.5 inch double terminated quartz, and I  stuck a little Herkimer diamond in there as well

Bump for great justice.

Though it seems to me I may have to become more a part of the community before people would commit purchasing from me.
It's understandable. ^_^
47  Other / Obsolete (selling) / Organic Hemp Wick - Butane Lighter Alternative + Now Have FREE Samples! on: June 18, 2011, 04:45:21 PM
Hello there everyone.

I currently have a micro-sized side business selling organic hemp wick.

What is hemp wick, you say?
It is a hemp twine, dipped in beeswax. It burns like a match or a lighter, and you use it as an alternative to butane lighters and sulfur-burning matches.

It improves the taste of your smoke while decreasing the amount of dangerous chemicals inhaled.
I am serious about the change in taste.
Ironically, beeswax burns so clean it is approved by the American Lung Association.

I will be selling 20foot amounts wrapped around wooden tags at the current rate of 0.30 BTC. Prices are based on the 30day USD average on http://bitcoincharts.com/markets/

For comparison, the two major brands of hemp wick sell 15.5 feet for 5 US dollars in retail shops. If anyone ends up trying and loving the wick, bulk purchases are also possible. I 50, 100 or 200 foot rolls at a discounted rate.

This is not to make a living for myself - I am not trying to rake in the chips. My motivation and intention is to help support the bitcoin currency. I am willing to send samples of wick as well, just cover the 50 cent shipping.

The more we can increase the diversity of goods and services that offer/accept bitcoin, the stronger it becomes.

I have a website in the works, but will put up the link later when I get more of a reputation and posting history on here.

I'm aware of my low post count... I am a good guy, not a scammer.
If any folks out there want to help me build community trust, let me send you a sample! They are now free, one sample request per user. If you like it, think about donating anything, or better yet, buy a bundle! You can also leave me positive feedback on this thread in exchange for the sample!

From now on, if you wish to buy some wick or get a sample, PM or IM me, and I will give you your own address to send to. Total facepalm move to use one addy for different people. There are no problems with any current orders, but changing this part of my policy will allow me to track all of the orders better in the future.

Namaste,
Shfinkel

49  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Who sells Milk on SilkRoad? on: June 18, 2011, 03:51:21 PM
Anyway, only babies should be drinking breast milk. Adults should drink water.

Milk is 85% water.

Lactose intolerance is due to a missing enzyme in the gut, lactase. So its a deficiency in humans that causes this, it is NOT something wrong with the milk.

No kidding? I thought that's what I said.

A human is not designed to break them down properly.

The story on this is back a few thousand years in our evolution, a mutation in the gene caused some humans to have the enzymes to break down cow milk proteins. It was an adaptation through mutation, not a modern day deficiency. It helped humans survive back then, which is why the gene is still present today.

I showed the weusecoins.com promo video to my mom. It presents the concept of bitcoins in an easy to understand manner. She likes the idea and supports me upgrading my system a bit so I can mine on the side.

Also planning to have an online BTC-friendly store, and a site to spread bitcoin awareness.  Smiley

Please make your bitcoin jokes funnier next time, so I know they're jokes.

52  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Community Input on a business idea on: June 18, 2011, 12:22:08 AM
That is absolutely true, but the user base for BTC is tiny at the moment and only grew because of all the publicity.  Check to see how many registered users on this forum.  Also have a look at the wiki page for current BTC online businesses.  I wouldnt be sure could make a living at this right now.

Oh yeah, I totally get that! This is a little side thing - my local sales of this wick already paid for my first investment, so I wanted to take the rest to help grow the community, however small of a contribution. I wouldn't be trying to make a living off of it.

My intention really is to help supply the BTC community with another source of goods/services.

53  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Community Input on a business idea on: June 17, 2011, 11:58:02 PM
As an added thing - this is a microbusiness, I am not trying to throw spam out there.

The real way to create strength behind bitcoin is to offer lots of goods and services for BTC.

Not just mining/exchanging for USD.
54  Other / Beginners & Help / Community Input on a business idea on: June 17, 2011, 11:46:45 PM
Hey all,

Looking for your input!
I currently have a micro-business called Earthlite Organics. I've had some small successes in my locality and have learned about bitcoin recently.

Everything bitcoin is about I agree with - the decentralized nature, greater freedom and independence, it's perfect.

I have had a domain name reserved in case I wanted to open an online store.
I am thinking about doing it in only bitcoins/dwolla now.

Right now my specialization is Hemp Wick. I'll have more Organic-centric items available in the near future.

It's hemp twine dipped in beeswax, used as a butane lighter alternative for smoking your herbal blends or lawful medicinal plants.
The taste improvement is absolutely unbelievable, and the reason why I started peddling the stuff.

Beeswax burns so clean it's approved by the American Lung Association. How's that for irony!  Grin
Hemp from Romania, Beeswax from beehives in Arcata, CA, USA.

What are your opinions? Is this a viable business concept that could get popular amongst Bitcoin users??

Hello all,

Just beginning to get into BTC - I am currently mining with BitClockers' pool, but making little progress because my GPU is absoulute crap.

Even if I spend 50 bucks on a card my performance will skyrocket. I'm on an old Geforce 6800 GX, doesn't support CUDA or OpenCl.

Doing my best lurking and soaking up all the info I can find.
See you in the forums!
