As long as ethereum is on the move for more development,it will be difficult for any other coin to overtake it just like that,many people find ethereum so easy to use.

I doubt if XRP can take the place of BTC because many are still skeptical about XRP,i think ETH is a better choice to XRP.

To me,it is better to invest my money in different altcoin than investing my money in bitcoin because altcoin will definitely bring in more return than just having your money in bitcoin.

One of the best way to know a good coin is to look out if the project has working product,make research on their target area and see if the project can actually deliver to the target area,also see if the project has got reasonable number of community behind it.
