btcex is nice, but their trading volume seems to be very small.

1. $1000/day per exchange you say? which makes it... about $3000/day? wow, that's a relief!
(sorry for being sarcastic, I'm just trying to make a point here...)

2. the uncertain legal status of bitcoins seems to bother people even less...

I am suspecting that we're getting too many opinions from users with no exposure to the real-life business world whatsoever...

we should all thank heavens for speculators, and beg for more speculation. otherwise given 1 & 2, this market would have absolutely no liquidity...

Bitcoins are low risk, with MASSIVE reward, and it won't gain mass appeal because of that.
Ooops, am I missing something here?

Don't we all want to invest money with minimal risk and maximum return?  Grin

well, they have good days and bad days, like everyone else  Grin
45  Economy / Economics / Re: Investing In The Bitcoin - Advice on: June 25, 2011, 07:29:40 PM
Since bitcoins are deflationary in nature, the price should keep going up as difficulty and adoption increase.
However... the legal status of bitcoins is uncertain, and if you want to run a business on bitcoins you should know that $1000/day is your limit.
If these two aspects were solved, I guess one can expect A LOT of growth...

Also, if bitcoins can be made truly anonymous, wait to see what happens to the price when the underground guys start to use it on a large scale  Grin
46  Economy / Economics / Re: When do you expect and when do you want BTC to go over 30 bucks again? on: June 25, 2011, 07:21:49 PM
Boredom?  Grin

An escrow service that would also mix the coins a couple times would be nice!

RISK? C'mon! What we need is a novel technology that is guaranteed to make us all rich with no investment and no effort.
And, NOW if possible!  Grin

The bitcoin economy is too small for multiple BIG exchanges.
Each one has pluses and minuses, it depends on what your needs are.

It would be interesting to see pairs like BTC1/BTC2 on the exchanges  Grin
Kind confusing after a while...

Well, if one lives long enough, I guess one gets to see it all  Grin
AFAIK, Bernie Meadoff was licensed and incorporated. So was Bear Stearns etc.
The system doesn't always work the way people think  Grin

I give up.  Grin

If windoze works for you, use it!
Quick tip: it's easier to downclock the freq of your cards' memory in windows than in linux, so take advantage of that. it will help with the cooling of your cards.

Linux is always better Smiley especially when you don't want to touch your mining rigs for months in a row.
Since your mining rig is a machine you use every day, you can reboot as many times as needed...

Just make sure you don't get you wallet.dat stolen (no advice here).

Good luck!
53  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: MtGox delayed opening...yet again! on: June 25, 2011, 05:40:01 AM
well, sorry to hear how upset you guys are! it's understandable, and your points are correct.
but... we live in an imperfect world, bitcoin is new, mtgox (and the other exchanges) are what they are etc.

however, here's one piece of advice (uncalled for, apologies!):
if you cannot play the markets without loosing sleep and getting angry to the point where your coronaries will suffer, maybe you shouldn't be doing it...
sound sleep is an invaluable assets. and... you can't buy it with bitcoins or any other currency...
54  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Is MtGox open yet? on: June 25, 2011, 05:00:06 AM
If I were Mark, I wouldn't allow people to withdraw money for a while. I would invoke security etc.
On an emotion-driven market like this, a bank run is the last thing we need...
If he only allows bitcoins to be withdrawn, it would make scared users to buy coins and run with them in order to minimize their losses.

Bitcoin would go up  Grin and MtGox's losses would go down...

Obviously, Bitcoin is not for the faint at heart  Grin

58  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: 0400hrs GMT - Odd Time To Start Trading @ MT Gox on: June 25, 2011, 04:49:25 AM
true, probably not too many Japanese users, but Mark does live in Japan  Smiley
59  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: MtGox delayed opening...yet again! on: June 25, 2011, 04:47:34 AM
Well, it does not make anybody happy. However, I guess we would all be even less happy if MtGox would go live, but the balances would be incorrect, right?
I was pretty reluctant when they announced the first re-launch date - after an incident of such magnitude cleaning the mess takes some time...
60  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: what is there to stop TradeHill from just taking all your money and closing shop on: June 25, 2011, 04:43:10 AM
Nothing. Which is also true for any exchange. Of course, you can always sue them in court Grin
