41  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Official FutureBit Apollo LTC Image and Support thread on: April 30, 2020, 02:59:40 AM
So now that I have my full node setup and running, (I think number 28?) does it or can it make me more money?  Securing the network is all well and good, but it would be greatly appreciated if I could increase my profits by running a full node.

Short answer: No!

You see those giant ASICs on litecoinpool? They suck up the coins -> we secure the network with our nodes -> so they can sell them high!!

But we are ok with that as long as our grand grand grand children can enjoy this decentralization business!

I don't think it yields twice the result though.

Agreed ... my assumption was based on their history of enhancements / speed updates and certain magical switches - since their Initial release.

I’m kind of “end-user” who believes with the right tools / skills nothing is impossible!
I am a little bit more acquainted in GPU programming so you can believe me that they don't have faster version than you have. Your suggestions are just a result of deep
misunderstanding of basic principles in computer technologies and programming like the memory throughput of GPU and how much memory (this is 8K bytes) is read to calculate one hash. Competition is a basic market principle that makes the customer gets the best quality for the lowest price. Otherwise your competitor will get your customers.

As my profile states, I am very newbie on this side - so for now - agreed and hope the next mining software will be announced by yourself.

As for competition discussion, I am actually a lot more acquainted in human nature who loves things with a shiny sticker that reads: FREE!

So, no matter how low CM and or any other mining software developer - including your upcoming software ask for, there will be always a huge percentage of us in this very forum complaining “how dare you ....” and ask for links to their FREE version - because humans are entitled to everything-free and or open-sourced so I can easily replace your wallet address with my own!

There aren't any developers that are carrying on the project as far as I know. Only modifying it to remove the devfee. I won't share those links because I feel that it would be inappropriate to do so. A simple Google search should be sufficient. In any case, I'm satisfied with what I'm using. Claymore or Phoenix. It doesn't matter. My current hashpower for my machines are only about 600MH/s so if they want to take 6MH/s each day for their efforts then I'm okay with that. That's literally ten cents a day. A measly ~$40 a year. My opinion is that the developers earned it whether they continue to work on it or not.
Look at it this way, if you made a program that earned you 1% of 188.86TH/s (so that'll be 1.8886) but let's say that Claymore is 60% and Phoenix is 40% so let's give Phoenix 0.75TH/s and Claymore the rest which is 1.81306TH/s. Let's convert that into profitability with zero cost or fees. 1,813,060MH/s He's earning no less than $1,182.71 an hour. Or $851,551.38 each month. So if you make over $10M a year by making a program that people are using without any issues what else do you need to do? You can't be forced to work. The dude is probably sitting on his own island fishing! Can you blame him? He saw an opportunity and he jumped on it! I'm actually quite envious. It just makes me respect the developers more. They don't need to play "free tech support" unless they want to. I doubt that we'll ever hear from either of them again and I'm perfectly okay with that. Let someone else step up and start a project. Surely there are more than 2 people in the world that can make a decent ethereum mining program. Then again, by the time they do we'll all probably be on PoS anyway.

Thank you for your time and sharing those numbers!

I was going to do similar and prove that not worth stealing from someone's hard work at the cost losing those developers - forever!

If it was easy, I'm sure we would have tons of mining software. It's not, obviously - not to mention, the next talented and brave soul, after seeing how people go nuts to hack his/her work to save a few pennies / month, they would think twice to give crap about wasting their time.

As for CM, PM, and others, I have a strong feeling they may have modified their codes to mine twice more than existing versions for their own pleasure!!

So, that's the price we all pay for being unfair, cheap and illogical!

LoL I cant help but see it - it sits right on my desk and its in AM so any time I look at any of my miners, I see all my miners Smiley

I hear you! It’s in miner’s DNA!

Addictive too!

I actually check my GPU based rigs to squeeze every bit extra hash possibly can!! It’s like a never ending adventure!

ASICs, you just set them up and done - as far as I can tell!!

To all gents / ladies who truly believe in LTC and want it to go up and stay up!

I respect that and my hat off to you all.

I see you all share the same thoughts that the big man is on top and in full control.

I also understand you talk about investors and community and fully trust hat things are going to be great again.

I hope so!

BUT ... remember Worldcom, Tyco, Enron and many giant companies how they lied to their investors, people even own employees - to survive?

There were warnings and little red flags here and there but most didn’t believe them - until too late.

That’s all I’m saying and not necessarily LTC but many other coins. Positive activities and developments are the key for any crypto to live on.

CL sold all his coins because according to him; he prioritized his tweeting activities over ownership of his baby!!

https://techcrunch.com/2017/12/20/litecoin-charlie-lee-conflict-of-interest/

To me, that’s the dumbest excuse a tech / crypto lover / inventor could come up with!!

I hope I’m wrong ... I have been wrong in the past - many times!!  Grin

the only real disappointing thing is that my Apollo will never find a block lol its best share ever is less than 5,000 so no where near the share needed to find a block. but it mines great on a pps pool, I will just never go solo with it.

I found a block last month. Ok that's a lot of luck and probably won't find another, but I did find one!

which scrypt coin were you mining?

Litecoin

nice! I cannot get mine to get a decent share ever. its currently been on line for 2d 1h 52m and best share is 3,074 - needed is 5,867,504.3 or thereabouts

I don’t check anything LTC related!! Cool

Just left my Apollo and those 10 something Moonlander 2 running. If they crash or something, pool sends me email and I go see what has gone wrong!

Why are people concern about the technical development of Litecoin when it is already working as intended?

Tell that to Mr. Lee himself!!  Smiley

Another question about the nodes and how other systems connect to them.
I didn't open port 9333, instead I enabled upnp on my firewall.
When I first fired up the node, the 8 connected clients all appeared to be coming in over 9333. The connection looks like '85.25.134.54:9333    /LitecoinCore:0.17.1/'
The two additional connections appear to be using a different port: '24.50.217.117:53895 - /bitcore:1.1.0-exodus2/' this looks like port 53895 to me,
and this one: '188.131.162.86:47106 - /btc-seeder:0.0001/'  looks like port 47106.
Is this correct? Should I be worried about the connections not on 9333?

You are fine.

If still concerned, go here and check out your ports:

50  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Official FutureBit Apollo LTC Image and Support thread on: April 28, 2020, 03:12:53 AM
I have two Apollo's and I've upgraded both of them to the latest update with one running a full node. It's only been up for a short time and it's showing 9 connections so it looks like everything is working correctly (I also noticed the node count for futurebit went up by one, so I'm hoping that's me!!!  Smiley)
My question is, can I run another node on my other Apollo? Would it work since they're both behind the same firewall? Can you have multiple nodes behind a single firewall without having multiple public IP addresses?

Yes, you can 2 or more as long as you manually open unused / uncommon ports and map it to additional Apollo.
51  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Litecoin Has Zero Active Development!! on: April 28, 2020, 03:07:02 AM

Litecoin (LTC) is one of the first altcoins, created in 2011 by Charlie Lee. It is quickly listed on a few market places and its price quickly reaches 30 cents of dollar (USD).

The price of Litecoin evolves from 2011 to 2013 between a few tens of centimes and 3 dollars.

But from November 2013 the price of litecoin will experience its first bull market in a few days. The price is multiplied by more than 10 to reach about 50 dollars.

But with the bear market of 2014 and the scandal of the Mt. Gox exchange, the price of Litecoin suffers and falls back to around 1 dollar in January 2015.
After a small rise in the spring of 2015, Litecoin enters a two year consolidation period and its price stabilizes around $3.

From the end of March 2017 Litecoin starts its second bull market. It rises from $3 at the end of March 2017 to $50 in July 2017 and reaches $80 in September 2017.

In November and December 2017, Litecoin takes advantage of the cryptocurrencies bubble and the price literally soars. The absolute record is set at around 371 dollars on 19 December 2017, i.e. a 500% increase in 2 months!

In 2018, Litecoin suffers a new crash like the whole cryptocurrencies market and its price will fall back to a low of around 25 dollars on December 15, 2018.

In 2019, Litecoin started in a bull market and its price climbed to $145 in June 2019. It then fell back to $50 in the second half of 2019.

Please read above one more time - but this time slower so you fully understand how it was born and survived!

Today, there are very small number of people who have invested on farms with hundreds, if not thousands, of ASICs and own huge number of LTC!

To them, it’s not labour of love! It’s just a game and they must play their cards 110% in order to get good return for their time and investment - until it’s all gone!!

Looking at those giants hashers running GH/s, I felt truly disappointed long ago ... but then I remembered I bought my Apollo strictly for education / learning purposes!

Of course, I could become graduated using those 10 something little Moonlander2 that I bought from Amazon ... but that little devil on my left shoulder kept pushing me to grab my CC and order Apollo so I could make couple of pennies per month!  Grin
53  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Litecoin Has Zero Active Development!! on: April 27, 2020, 08:33:52 PM
I think litecoin is already a fully developed product but i am sure developers will be working on its improvement and upgrades in the background, also i think the latest development is lightening network that will be the scalability solution for ltc and btc and by using it we will get fast and cheap transactions that is the need of the hour.

I was doing some research about many exchanges and your comment reminded of them.

Poloniex was born years before many others and thought they were fully developed and no change / improvement is needed and look where they are today.

As for working behind closed doors ... are we talking about Apple? Usually, Crypto developers  announce / brag about their short / long term plan well in advance so people like me remain excited! Grin

Ethereum 2.0 started their noise years ago!

But ... just realized I wasted your time! My response should’ve been: Source, please?  Smiley

That's not very helpful.  I thought I did the instructions.  I'm a first timer.  I don't know what to do.

It’s because you didn’t say which pool you use.

Check this pool and stick with them. Their instruction is easy to follow:

https://www.litecoinpool.org/help

As for that 1% donation fee, it’s not mandatory but it’s a nice gesture to assist with future development of device we paid for. You can easily disable it, if you don’t like.

I got it figured out.  Thanks,

I'm donating 10%.  appreciate your help

Glad to hear that. I was very excited too when finally got things going!

Have fun!
55  Economy / Exchanges / Re: What is the best crypto exchange? on: April 27, 2020, 07:24:54 PM
FWIW, after months of research (min 10 hrs/day!) - meaning, I registered and actually used a number of popular exchanges including their support to see how fast they get back to customer.

These 3 survived:

- Kraken
- Binance
- Bitpanda

I also tested their account closure and re-opening process to learn how they deal with it! A few was “easy” to reactivate my account - but most asked for legal proofs of identities etc which is nice to know your closed account wouldn’t be reopened “automagically” without your knowledge!!

Also, only a few followed up to understand why I decided to close my account which proves they actually care losing customers!
56  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Litecoin Has Zero Active Development!! on: April 27, 2020, 06:00:33 PM
Litecoin is not really something that is getting all that much attention anyway, it doesn't need any developments neither, it is just litecoin and that's it, nothing more.

There are some coins who have been very strong for years and that is enough for them, they do not have to do anything to stay high, sure litecoin was once second coin behind bitcoin and it dropped but even with being just litecoin it still stays at high positions. That is really valuable in the crypto world, anything before 2016 and the ICO period has been considered quite good and have been the "old soul" of crypto world so even without any development at all they have a community that backs them up.

Do I support that idea? No. However I can't deny that it is happening right now and has been for a while.

Valuable response. Thank you.
57  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Claymore's Dual Ethereum AMD+NVIDIA GPU Miner v15.0 (Windows/Linux) on: April 27, 2020, 05:49:53 PM
I agree. But some people will never be satisfied. If they had their way the developers would be dragged back out of retirement and forced to spend hours or days to rewrite their code from scrap in hopes that their RX 570's that are currently hashing at 32MH/s will be stable at 34MH/s. Some people just don't know how much work goes into it and thus don't respect it.
My opinion is that it works fine and I thank the developers. Claymore and Phoenix.

Developers would be back out of retirement only if they see their e-wallets have remained unchanged for couple of weeks!

Then, they know something has gone wrong affecting their labours - so time to get back to work! Grin
58  Economy / Exchanges / Re: What is the best crypto exchange? on: April 27, 2020, 12:33:37 PM
If you are looking to find out more details above the list, Check out the best crypto exchange to watch in 2020 where it explains exchange features, fees, and pros and cons.

6+ months searching google for best-crypto-exchange 2020, they all sound like copy and paste from other sites and same contents from 2017!!

Still, I visited your site and took me less than 90 seconds to leave even more confused!

By no means free Ad for Kraken, but their support replied even before me click on send button!!

I have no further comment except personally I prefer to chat with folks around these forums to choose the “right” exchange.
59  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Litecoin Has Zero Active Development!! on: April 27, 2020, 11:58:59 AM
Ethereum is on a different level and has so many active staff ob their disposal. I cant compare much because this is a battle of active projects and pioneer coins. Look out also on dogecoin, these are first coins since blockchain has begun and it will stay at the top due to their positioned ever set.

Not just ETH, but many others are on a different level with super active staffs at their disposal - and that’s exactly the reason many people are scratching their head to figure out what has gone wrong with LTC - or, why they have stopped / slowed down.

In another word, why there is no or so little number of developers around LTC.

Personally, as a software developer (non-crypto!!), if I like a company, their environment, purpose etc, then I enjoy learning and getting my hands dirty with their language - and also encourage others to join too. Otherwise, nope!!

I believe same can be said about LTC and inactive development. Developers just can’t find a reason to love / support it.

Looks like I am number 16. What a fun project.

Welcome!

But seems like 2 Apollo owners can’t keep theirs up and running.Grin

Mine has been rock solid since day 1 - no interruption - in eco mode though.
