41  Economy / Economics / Re: Why? on: June 22, 2011, 05:32:13 PM
The more exchanges there are, the better it is. There can also be competition between them, leading to better prices.

Absolutely.  Much in the same vein of BTC:  decentralize!
42  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: 51% difficulty increase in 3 days on: June 22, 2011, 05:22:38 PM
I think we will see slightly decelerated growth even on the next increase, a few weeks from now... just enough time for the lag to start to kick in.

Bloodys could be correct, but if you still need help after looking into the crossfire issue, please post your computer setup, and I can help you troubleshoot.
45  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Does anyone here sell bitcoins on: June 22, 2011, 04:38:24 PM
Why don't you use an exchange for bitcoin trading?

I've been trading for a while, and I might be willing to take a leap of faith with you, but we would first have to establish some ground rules.  PM me if you are interested.

It would obviously vary, depending on whether or not we were using gold-plated monster cables, Samantha =)

You could save yourself $100 and increase cooling by skipping the case completely and letting the system run open-air.  I believe one guy on these forums used zip-ties to suspend his GPUs above his motherboard, connecting them to a cheap, wire shoe rack.  Sure, it's not pretty, but it is efficient, economical, and will run cooler.
48  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Securing my wallet on Ubuntu: is my theory solid? on: June 22, 2011, 04:26:05 PM
Hmmmm, I wouldn't trust dropbox right now:  they had a seucirty breach (due to a bug in an update) on Sunday that allowed full access to every account.  The only way, in my opinion, to have peace of mind, is to handle all security measures yourself.

And this is also a problem because until there is a standardized, easy way to secure your wallet, BTC will have a difficult time gaining mainstream approval.

Where is your "first" card that is having the heat issues?  On top?  In the middle?  On the bottom?  Have you considered opening the side panel on your case and putting an oscillating fan (or equivalent) onto the GPUs for additional cooling?  Have you considered a PCI-E extender?

I had no clue what an SLL was, so I had to look it up:  Sierra Leonean Leone.

20,723.90 SLL = 4.74 USD

I'm not familiar with foreign currency exchanges in relation to BTC, but I thought others might like to see the currency conversion.  Perhaps someone else may be able to help.
52  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoin - the first cryptographic commodity, NOT currency on: June 22, 2011, 04:02:40 PM
When explaining BTC to all of my investor friends, I describe it as a crypto-commodity, for many of the reasons listed above (that, for redundancy's sake, I won't repeat).  In the end, though, potato/potahto.  Semantics aside, this is an extremely exciting idea that is beginning to catch the eye of the public.

You are going to have to compete with those new pyramid (see: ponzi) schemes on this forum that are giving users double return for their money =P
54  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: are all ATI HD 6990 equal ? are there differences depending on the brand on: June 22, 2011, 03:53:57 PM
Yes, all reference cards are made equal.  They are made by AMD, and another company puts their sticker on the card.  But in the end, it doesn't really matter TOO much... you will see very similar results, no matter which brand you choose.
55  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Double GPU mining? on: June 22, 2011, 03:52:16 PM
Yeah, I wouldn't recommend you use the other GPU... 6 MH/s isn't even worth the bother to plug it in.  You might want to look at a BTC calculator to see if you will even be profitable with the next difficulty increase, given power costs, A/C, BTC exchange rate, MH/s rate, etc...
56  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Buying & Selling idle GPU Capacity on SpotCloud on: June 22, 2011, 03:38:47 PM
Why don't you just use the systems to mine for yourself?  Higher ROR that way, no?
57  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Can I mine Bitcoins with my smartphone? on: June 22, 2011, 03:26:20 PM
My goodness, I can't even begin to think how much this would drain the battery, especially with how short my battery life is already!  I honestly don't see any benefit in mining with a cell phone, unless you like to just do it to support the cause of BTC.
58  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: BitcoinCard - take your bitcoins out for a walk on: June 22, 2011, 03:23:22 PM
It's great to get such an early head start!  Look at how well the early miners have done for themselves.  There are still quite a few hurdles for BTC to overcome, but if it happens, I think you are positioning yourself well.  It will be worth it as long as you enjoy doing it; if you are okay working on this with the mindset that you might never make a penny, then you have nothing to lose.
59  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: GTX 560 Ti - What flags to use? on: June 22, 2011, 03:20:19 PM
In all sincerity, I am saying this to save you time and money:

You shouldn't waste your time mining on your 560Ti.  IIRC, the 560Ti gets around 85-100MH/s, right?  You are going to be generating a LOT of heat and power, with very little in return -- especially as the new difficulty increase is right around the corner.  The reason you don't see much talk about 560Ti on this board is because so few people are actually mining with them.

I think you are better off buying/selling BTC on the market, trying to gain a return that way.
60  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: New here. Come to say hello.Question about payout in deep on: June 22, 2011, 03:10:40 PM
It takes time to process and confirm the transaction.  What do you think your mining rig is doing all day?  ;-)
