Danny, I am using Bitcoin Core, and have encrypted my wallet with a strong passphrase. Is having the passphrase sufficient protection even if someone else has my wallet.dat? Would changing my passphrase increase my security, or should I just follow the steps you laid out?
yes, anyone who has access to your encrypted wallet.dat can try brute force the pass. But if your pass is original, and strong (various combination of numbers, special signs, min. 8 char. long) there is nothing to worry about. also do not say to anybody how much btc this wallet control. no loot = nobody will try to break pass.

no one can patent this anymore because basic requirement for patent is that must be something new (not publicly known).
its one of the most common mistake of many inventors, that they make a promotion and introduce their idea on presentation (to some investors) , but then it become known to public and therefore cannot be covered by patent.
This. You can make a claim for anything against anyone at anytime. Winning that position is an entirely different matter. I don't see it sticking. sure you can make claim (almost everything) and pay a fee but does not mean your claim will be approved an turned to patent. My point was, it could have been patent covered, but it had to be done in 2010 (prior any public announcement). so small advice, if you want to patent anything, and you looking for investors. First you should claim "patent pending". Cost you much less effort, money etc,\.

It seems as though companies want to take this angle to defeat the currencies. http://letstalkbitcoin.com/blog/post/mastercardfilesbitcoinpatentClaim the patent and stop the development of the technology. Satoshi is nowhere to be found, so anyone can claim the patent. If the patent was not filed, it's open for the taking. Right or Wrong? Now don't all run and file patents now. no one can patent this anymore because basic requirement for patent is that must be something new (not publicly known). its one of the most common mistake of many inventors, that they make a promotion and introduce their idea on presentation (to some investors) , but then it become known to public and therefore cannot be covered by patent.

Great explanation! thanks a lot. finally it's clear what you meant with fees. Guys don't use wallets which charge you for incoming transactions. Just don't use them. it is crazy.
Cloudhashers.net, you still DO NOT UNDERSTAND .... So, what does my desktop wallet software (bitcoin-qt) do automatically? Bitcoin-QT wallet will send out 2000 transactions of 0.0025 BTC each (2000 x 0.0025 BTC = 0.5 BTC). So now Bitcoin-QT wallet has the 0.5 BTC to send, but what do you know.... Bitcoin-QT will add 0.0001 BTC FEE for each 1K in the transaction. Assuming here each transaction is 500 bytes, so for 2000 transactions, that's 1000K bytes. Bitcoin-QT will add 0.0001 BTC x 1000 = 0.1 BTC FEE. ... Exactly as you said. Tried to send all 0.019 BTC and Armory offer me 0.015 BTC fee so what now? shall I sweep address to blockchain wallet?

if you change four letters in bincoin, and three of them omit, you get word scam

hmm see I'm outnumbered now .. I know whats going on, this thread was posted in serv. ann. where get quite good response from newer members, but here, with all of the elder members its bad.

thanks for opinions

Hi, I just got back all my invest, now it's pure profit but I'm sitting on the fence whether invest again or not.
how much bitcoin moola did you make, anyhow? not much, invested 0.017 BTC, payout 2 000 satoshi hourly. I would invest more, but you know .... I'm worried

hi Carlos, why everytime when my balance reach zero, all my bids multiply itself many times. I always have to delete about hundreds of them. its really annoying. Is that bug or way how to force users to keep depositing? Please check what is wrong or add 'delete all' button. That is indeed a bug that has been unnoticed by me the entire time. It doesn't really "multiply" bids, it just changes the state of every bid to "paused", even the ones "deleted", so "deleted" bids will be "paused" when your balance reached 0. It should be fixed now. Thank you. no body notice that? seems I'm the only one who spent all balance. thanks for fix. I will test it soon.

hey, now I am bit confused how come you can reach bitcoins in that wallet without knowing its private key. are you saying that anybody can just spent time creating new wallets with random passphrase and if he hits one already used it generates same address again? Then why I need paper wallet with "root key", if knowing passphrase is enough. I thought passphrase in armory is just to encrypt dat file, or you are talking about different passphrase. sorry for stupid query, but I'm starting to worry about my BTC. edit: first google link and I don't worry anymore. armory is not brain wallet. You can get the private key from the passphrase because the private key was generated from the passphrase https://brainwallet.github.io/https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/BrainwalletThe passphrase must have a good entropy, if you use a paper wallet you don't need a passphrase but you can encrypt your wallet for additional safety yea, thanks for clarify, that was one of my stupid post, I was reading thread about armory (I'm using it) and mess it up together with this thread. completely my error.

Who the hell cares about meaningless numbers like that.
I just love those "senior members" sitting on bunch of BTCs and criticizing every faucet like site. Just like real seniors somebody for sure, earned more than 3 mBTC from refs already.

well it is very hard to earn.. i just earned 62 bits and its only satohsis .. i thought they pay bigger.. it's 6 000 satohi, I still think its much better than many faucets. I got first payment 2 hour after registration. just you can't watch all the time, only few vids a day. There is some limit, when crossed, you'll get only 1 or 2 bits.
