41  Economy / Securities / Re: Anything sustainable worth of investing? on: November 26, 2015, 09:15:42 AM
Thank you for this. I ve also been looking into them but I was unable to find any success stories from small startup investors. If this is good, there must be someone who has invested and can share their experience.
No problem glad it interested you.

Yes, its not easy finding that info (ROI, Divs, P&L, etc.) But I noticed Shapeshift was a funded company. I would have thought, this would be the best metric and demonstration of what a 'successful' investment looks like, within this context.

https://bnktothefuture.com/pitches/2090/_shapeshift-io-now-every-bitcoin-merchant-accepts-alternative-crypto-currencies.html

Shapeshift is a good company as I mentioned B2TF definitely has some pitches that were on my radar alongside some other neat ideas.
In regards to ROI for Keisers fund one of the episodes/podcasts of RT, Dixon mentioned that the first one launched was nearing 50% ROI

43  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Blocksize - December 2015 on: November 26, 2015, 08:17:24 AM
I haven't paid much attention to the Blocksize debate in some time, so I am unaware of what the present status of each BIP proposal is.
That said I was leaning towards BIP 106 but it seems dead so given another choice I would say BIP 100 floating size block limit.

44  Economy / Economics / Re: What's your guess on the price of bitcoin for Jan 2016 and July 2016? on: November 26, 2015, 08:02:00 AM
January 2016 is not that far away so a targetted estimate of $400 USD from the present $330 seems viable to me
July 2016 is a peak period for various reasons a run up to $600 USD to $ 800 USD at halving is my guess.
45  Economy / Micro Earnings / Re: The Bitcoins Earning Guide on How To Make A Good Living on: November 26, 2015, 07:53:19 AM
For me the interesting question is if per capita income is less than $5/day how much of that cost would go towards a person acquiring access to a computer to make money and access these faucets.
That said your right in countries with a very low GDP faucets and services may be worth their time if they can overcome the language barrier which is implied for a sig campaign.

(Rakuten planning to start taking bitcoin is news to me though so thanks for sharing that)
46  Bitcoin / Press / [2015-11-24] Lipisha and Bitpesa Sue Safaricom For Cutting Off Access To M-Pesa on: November 26, 2015, 07:35:34 AM
Lipisha is a Kenyan company that uses various platforms to automate mobile payments, allowing businesses to collect, automate and integrate payments from customers and clients using mobile money. One of these platforms was Safaricom’s M-Pesa, at least until November 12th, when access was cut off for Bitpesa, for whom Safaricom explicitly asked Lipisha not to continue serving.

The termination was carried out without notice, with Lipisha notified via SMS after the fact. This prompted Lipisha to take Safaricom to court. Certifying the matter as urgent, High Court Judge Joseph Onguto added that Safaricom would have to provide grounds for this termination.

Bitpesa is one of Lipisha’s largest clients, and so they were who was joined as a co-plaintiff in the suit. The two firms blamed Safaricom for using its monopoly on the mobile money industry to intimidate Lipisha into ceasing its services on M-Pesa. Particularly affected is Bitpesa, which is a bitcoin trading platform. On Bitpesa, users can convert bitcoin into Kenya Shillings and use the M-Pesa platform to send this money to any user with an account.

Safaricom has been sued for allegedly using intimidation to suspend the two firms’ services.

47  Economy / Securities / Re: Anything sustainable worth of investing? on: November 26, 2015, 07:29:14 AM
Bitcointalk securities reputation is so bad no self respecting company would even bother.

99% of the blame for that falls on the people who invested in things like Goat's fictional rice patty field or usagi's endless ponzi funds.  It got to the point where issuers weren't even listing where their revenue was going to come from.  They just claimed a return and people piled in.

I do wish there were more good options so that sites tracking these securities would pop up, more investment was directed at worthy targets, and maybe even analysts popping up to cover them.  Right now, you are right, there is very little investment happening here due to the endless scam attempts and lack of BTC by it's remaining users.  It is a shame, because I think that this type of micro-security and Bitcoin is a perfect match with all sorts of potential to build some really great stuff.  Oh well...

To my knowledge the last real exchange for Bitcoin fundraising is not havelock but bnktothefuture that said the capital requirements to fundraise their tend to be greater than the tiny IPO's and share offers available on bitcoin exchanges, that and the shares are not traded on open exchange.
Basically alt-coin trading is the new securities.

Has anyone actually used bnktothefuture? Is it possible to make any money on these startup companies? How does that work?

I haven't used it myself but I brought it up crazyivan so I'll add some more details.
The reason I'm aware of the site is because of some successful launches like Bitpesa (Even though they had issues lately the challenges of micro finance and banking (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1263524.msg13072489#msg13072489) and RT Max Keiser has been running tranches on it and paying daily dividends which is why people are buying into it.

For those who are curious Keiser is from the Keiser Report on Russia Today, its been making returns as its in the third tranche and I should have clarified most companies are large scale investment that said there are minor ones like Bitcoin Capital as well.
Links below for those who are curious.

https://bnktothefuture.com/pitches/2543/_bitcoin-capital-3-bitcoin-fund-managed-by-simon-dixon-and-max-keiser-that-pays-daily-dividends-in-bitcoin.html

At the least in these type of assets their is a lot more promise than some other listings I've seen as always their is risk of course but it's true startup investment.

49  Economy / Speculation / Re: Why the sudden spike in Chinese volume? on: November 26, 2015, 07:03:06 AM
Likely some variance that averages out over the long term
There is also the possibility some trading bot was trying to execute a strategy of sorts, volume is somewhat artificial at 0% after all.
50  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: There is ZERO Evidence That 9554 Bitcoin Were Seized From ISIS by Hacktivists. on: November 25, 2015, 10:23:23 AM
If they open a faucet then decide to give out a mbtc to each user to prove their raid was real I might believe that they really hacked an ISIS based wallet.
If the group gave out 54 BTC at 0.01 each they could get 5400 Unique claims and no one would question their story and still have 9500 coins to spare.
To my knowledge they are not part of anon that was the medias idea.

What good would that do? Some People Will claim multiple bitcoins by fake claims and others get nothing.

Don't hope for freebies, that is just not how the world works.

It's not a freebie more than a proof of assets, if they have a base of Bitcoins and really took them from ISIS one way to prove it to the community while still remaining psuedo-anonymous is to host a faucet service and mix the addresses.
Either that or proof of address with a signed signature would work either way this story smells of BS.
51  Economy / Economics / Re: How much Coca Cola can you buy with 1 Bitcoin in your country? on: November 25, 2015, 09:00:45 AM
I'll use a baseline on this
The price of 1 Bitcoin in my country is $438 Dollars, a bottle of 2 L cola on sale if I'm lucky is 0.99 cents + Deposit 0.1 + Taxes 0.05 = $1.14
$438/1.14 = 384 Times
384 2 L Coca Colas * 2 = 768 Litres of Coke for one Bitcoin.

If I don't wait for a sale its 1.97 + 15 c = 2.12 = 206 *2 = 412 L so there is a big variance
Someone should make a ranking index later

So somewhere between
412 L to 768 L of Coca Cola

But you get the deposit back when you turn in the bottles again right? So you will be able to buy a couple of extra bottles again.

Better to leave the deposit out for your calculations then Smiley

Fair enough Norrisk if I add in deposit and then buy more coca cola my range would grow it would take a lot of rebalancing though so your right it makes sense to ignore it, in the end with deposit I think it would deviate due to compounding every time I buy more coke with the deposit and end up with a few liters +- more that said I noticed I made a math error last time and put in a 5 instead of a 4 so I was wondering why it ended up at 512 L again turns out 10 cents in this calculation is 100 L from 2.12 and 2.02 haha

Recaluclated that makes real costs 1.04 to 2.02
That makes the litre range change from 512 L to 822 L of coke Smiley
512L to 822 L of Coca Cola
Math
438/1.04= 421*2L Bottle = 822 L
438/2.02= 216*2L Bottle = 512 L

52  Economy / Speculation / Re: Any impact of the Russian SU24 shot down by Turkey (NATO)? on: November 25, 2015, 04:41:48 AM

dunno, why one of the oldest members here is not giving single fuck to basic rules..

It bypasses normal rules in my opinion since this could escalate fairly quickly into a serious diplomatic incident.
Perhaps not a WWIII but if things go hay wire even Bitcoin would be impacted in a worst case scenario hence its speculation that said perhaps Politics and Society does make more sense.
Either way the media is having a field day on this.

54  Economy / Speculation / Re: price impact with bitcoin black Friday? on: November 25, 2015, 02:42:39 AM
Small change that is absorbed within the next few days
People buy Bitcoin to prepare for BBF and the price rises in the short term, after products are purchased the merchants convert the Bitcoin into cash less a percentage they may decide to keep holding and the price will drop.
55  Economy / Speculation / Re: Price Increase Incoming. on: November 25, 2015, 02:38:24 AM
Get ready to dump some coins because a mini spike is going to happen in the next 48 hrs.
How do I know? You ask...

Because I just sold some btc. If it works out the same as every other time I've needed to liquidate, the price will go up at least 15 dollars before tomorrow night.

Just a friendly heads up

In other words people are purchasing Bitcoin for Bitcoin Black Friday, when the merchants go to sell their products and convert the assets back to cash we will see a temporary price dump on Saturday or Sunday
A correct observation gogxmagog at least in my opinion, liquidating a little before the date will prevent short term volatility.
56  Other / Off-topic / Re: Do you actively spend your bitcoins? on: November 25, 2015, 02:35:11 AM
I spend my bitcoins. For for digital goods.
With Bitcoinblackfriday almost upon us I may spend some of my Bitcoins purchasing products with Bitcoin and looking up the latest products on cyber monday as well.

58  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Diff thread Nov 23 to Dec 7 Set up stage- Picks Not Open Yet on: November 25, 2015, 02:07:04 AM
This round will be interesting since difficulty is maintaining itself above 10%
Presuming that their is not a real price increase and mining units stay operational I expect it to end around this range or go up a bit more.
That said we still have at least a few more rounds before we start to near 100,000,000,000 and that's food for thought.

Bitcoin Difficulty: 72,722,780,643

60  Economy / Economics / Re: Could American expats lose their passports on January 1, 2016? on: November 25, 2015, 01:55:31 AM
If the expat has a passport equivilent as useful as the American passport then their is no reason to keep it just to be taxed based on where you live outside the country. In a sense it's more of a vanity tax than anything else because none of that money is used to help the expat, unless it affects their social service pensions etc, or they have a tax-sharing agreement with that member country.
