41  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: I feel like I'm dreaming, is this crap for real? For how long? on: June 09, 2011, 08:09:12 PM
But by mining you kind of buy insurance against a fall in bitcoin value, considering the (historically) strong correlation between price and difficulty (but of course: historic results...no guarantees....etc.)

it's essentially nothing more than a glorified ponzi scheme...

Though I do hope it becomes much more than that, because the ideas behind it are revolutionary.

I am confused by these two statements. You say it is a ponzi scheme but how is that revolutionary?

Sounds like your computer and/or mt gox account have been compromised.
43  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: The all new strong MtGox competitor TradeHill is now ready!!! on: June 09, 2011, 02:55:00 AM
Hope everything works out well. We need an alternative(s) to Mt Gox.
44  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [~2300 Gh/s Mining Pool] HTTPS,API, instant payouts,LP,+1% for NO INVALID BLOCKS on: June 08, 2011, 07:14:19 AM
here's what it boils down to. either the bitcoin network is self regulating, it works, and theres no need for all the "ZOMG 50%" crap or the bitcoin network isnt self regulating, and no amount of "ZOMG 50%" crap is going to save it from collapsing.

Tycho has done nothing but make a great damn pool and people are going out of their way to punish him for it.
It is a pool that charges you for service while other pools don't. How is that a "great damn pool?"

i'll pay for a pool that spends my money to stay stable in the face of the impending ramping up of DDos attacks against the network rather then be a part of a free pool that cant afford basic protection. obviously 50% of people agree with me Wink
What makes you think other pools can't afford "basic protection?" By the way, what exactly is "basic protection?"

How come the Labeltech thread was removed and not the other threads that are arguably much "worse"?
47  Other / Obsolete (selling) / Re: searching for 100 to 1k BTC on: June 08, 2011, 05:35:37 AM
Why not use Mt Gox?
48  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How Many Bitcoins do you own? on: June 08, 2011, 05:10:37 AM
Anyone with an abundance of coins will be smart enough not to post how many they have on a public forum for all the tax agencies in the world to read.
49  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Connections top out at 8 on: June 08, 2011, 03:50:43 AM
Interesting...just checked up on my forwarded ports and I've had 8333 open this whole time. Huh
50  Economy / Marketplace / Re: RibbitCoins - Bitcoins for Frogs! on: June 08, 2011, 03:48:05 AM
Do you have any baby tigers? I'd like a baby tiger.
51  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: What just happened to Deepbit? on: June 08, 2011, 03:21:34 AM
Someone probably tripped over their ethernet cables and disconnected their rigs.
52  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Is it possible to use 4 X 6990's? on: June 08, 2011, 12:28:42 AM
One could always try to plug those water blocks to the floor heating system, and save some radiators and water heaters...

Someone already has done this. Search the forums.

edit: Here is the post I am referring to. http://forum.bitcoin.org/index.php?topic=3707.msg53879#msg53879
53  Economy / Economics / Re: Whats with the $19 barrier on: June 07, 2011, 11:00:02 PM
Up, up, and away we go!
54  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Connections top out at 8 on: June 07, 2011, 10:48:59 PM
Do I need to forward specific ports other than 8332 in order to get > 8 connections on the bitcoin client? Also, does having more than 8 connections really matter?
55  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Profit of changing pool on: June 07, 2011, 10:42:56 PM
Roughly the same.
56  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: How to contact Mt. Gox?!! Money lost [so far]!!! on: June 07, 2011, 10:39:36 PM
Be patient. Bank wires take days to go through sometimes. (assuming you withdrew via bank wire).
57  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: ATI 5830 RIP, we barely new ye on: June 07, 2011, 09:17:58 PM
So, no more 58xx..period? Or just from Fry's? What will this entail for the price of bitcoin? Will it affect the price due to the more costly 6xxx series cards only being available?
58  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: How to setup 6 cards on one machine? on: June 07, 2011, 09:13:09 PM
I think the safest way is to go with 5970s (assuming you can find 3 of them). Since 5970s are dual gpu you can do 6 gpus that way (with linux), otherwise you will be hard pressed to get it working with 6 1-gpu cards.
59  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Looking for something? on: June 07, 2011, 08:57:56 PM
All I have to say is: we were all once noobs before.

129 pages.

Just sayin.

I remember when this topic was a wee little one.
