FUCK XUBUNTU!

That is all....

Well if I spend another day or two beating my head against a wall with it I'm gonna try Manjaro again.

naw I know you can't really talk about Vega. I take it you sold all the optimizations to some farm with the stipulation that you can't tell anyone else about it? Man I bet they are getting like 70Mh per card.

Anyway what I did was this:

Quote
wget -qO - http://repo.radeon.com/rocm/apt/debian/rocm.gpg.key | sudo apt-key add -
sudo sh -c 'echo deb [arch=amd64] http://repo.radeon.com/rocm/apt/debian/ xenial main > /etc/apt/sources.list.d/rocm.list'
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install rocm

#edit grub
sudo nano  /etc/default/grub
#2MB fragments for Ellesmere are enabled with a grub option:
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="amdgpu.vm_fragment_size=9"

sudo update-grub
sudo reboot

Then it would boot with ROCm kernel 4.11, but wouldn't hash. Said something about needing DRM 3.x.x and I had v2.5. Thought that was because the 270 was still on the radeon driver (even though I was only trying to mine on the 570 which was using the amdgpu driver according to lspci -v). That's when I ended up breaking the install messing with it (I think blacklisting the radeon driver broke it). It would still run with the default 4.10 kernel and it would hash, but without the dag fix (only 24 MH/s when it should have been getting 29+).

Anyhow I'll try it again. I may have fucked myself trying to install the amdgpu-pro driver so maybe I'll skip that part this time. Thanks for the infos!

But, like...I just wanna get hashing on Polaris with the dag fix. Nothing fancy. Even if it's 1MH/s below Windows without completely breaking the install I would be happy.

You will need some skill to get it going really well - driver shit is irritation. Anyways - you got sysfs for clocks, temps, and fanspeeds. Voltages, there's NOTHING public that actually works (i.e. isn't either totally broken or completely inaccurate), although my little pet project will do it for GCN 2 & GCN 3.

Well lay some skills on me bro!  Cheesy

Well I don't want to pay for it either.  Grin Isn't EthOS like $30? I'm sure I could find a torrent or something but then I probably wouldn't trust it. What do you recommend?

A large part of the reason for doing this though is just to learn linux, so I kinda wanna stick to a normal distro (either Manjaro, Debian, or Xubuntu) and also use it for gaming/browsing/email/video, etc.

@Wolf0

Ahh good to know. That makes it easier to compare then.

I remembered I asked you earlier about how to set up Linux and you said any use any recent kernel and amdgpu drivers and not amdgpu-pro, but you need the OpenCL runtime. Is that is still true now that there is a DAG fix? Is 4.10 a recent enough kernel? How do you get the OpenCL runtime? I read a comment somewhere that you are supposed to install the amdgpu-pro drivers with the '--compute' flag. Is that correct?

I really wanna get Linux setup and running so I can move all my rigs over, but unless I can get it hashing on par with Windows it's not worth it. I managed to get it running with amdgpu drivers but I was getting pre-DAG-fix hash rates, and ended up breaking my install trying to mess with it. I think that had something to do with blacklisting the radeon driver though (the primary GPU in the system is an R9 270).

Also are there any publicly available tools to monitor voltage/clocks/temps/fanspeeds, etc? lmsensors doesn't find anything and conky and grkrellm don't seem to be able to see voltages.

Actually he and greatauror were talking about a specific samsung IC. Although he is no doubt also using a custom kernel whereas everyone else is posting their hashrate reported by claymore in win, so his increases don't necessarily all come from optimized timings.

Like I say I have a few Elpidas and none of mine will even do more than 2020. The lowest 2 only do 1960/1970.

Try the ubermix straps. 1900 seems awfully low for samsung.

Anyone have modded 'edw4032babg' ? (570 4gb elpida)

It's hella common - I've done it several times, but I've not focused extremely hard on it cause it's not one I've got a lot of.

Most of cheap rx 570's come with elpida :-/

Out of 9 500-series cards, 5 of mine have that. You could say I went for cheap ones, but I bought them all no earlier than late June, so none of them were that cheap Tongue

Hello,

Thanks so much man for this Tutorial !!!!!!!!!

My rig base on AMD NITRO+ RX 580 8G Hynix + Ubuntu 16.04 Server with AMD beta blockchain drivers + Claymore:

Each GPU for "Estash"
30.7 Mh/s
Temp=62C
Fan=36%
120W ( 0.017$ KWh so I don't really work on that ^^)

On Windows the Hash is better 31.4Mh/s but Linux is more stable and...I don't want to work on Windows anyway.

Strange thing is when I start Dual-Mining my hashrate increase to 30.9 Mh/s and 970 for DRE but I will not use Dual mining !! Dual Mining is taking 60W more / Lot more noisy and Fan start to go high...

Someone have the same increasing Hashrate when dual mining?

When you say beta blockchain drivers do you mean amdgpu-pro 17.40? I'm trying to figure out which kernel/firmware combo you need to run on linux with the dag fix but I keep breaking my install lol :p

Some of the posters are obvious trolls. Anyone else I'm not sure why they're surprised. It seemed pretty likely by late June that the coin was going to have to retest at least the 30k level if not the 20k level. Almost all the alts are having a hard time right now, but after the bitcoin 2mb fork I'm sure we'll see a recovery. Look at this as a buying opportunity.

Great feedback! Thank you!  How can i double check the amount of time the program mines on behalf of dev?

It's probably connecting do a different pool with lower difficulty shares for the dev fee. Check your logs.

54  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Claymore's Dual Ethereum AMD+NVIDIA GPU Miner v10.0 (Windows/Linux) on: October 21, 2017, 12:25:17 AM
The diff depends on the pool, and even the socket. Even then if the dev fee uses the same pool and socket, but it's a variable difficulty socket, then the difficulty can be set lower when it makes the new connection and probably won't even settle in to your normal difficulty by the time the dev fee mining is over.

That's why you should look at the amount of time spent dev fee mining, rather than purely the number of shares. Number of shares doesn't mean anything if you don't know the difficulty of each.

Hello. First, just want to thank this forum for being an excellent resource in helping me to get into mining. Thank you!

Question, I feel like I've been seeing a lot of DEVFEE mining as I'm running Claymore 10.0. So I did a count on the number of "Accepted Shares" vs the number of "DevFee Accepted share". For every 100 "Accepted Share" for me, there are 17 "Dev Fee Accepted Share".  Does this mean that 17% of the shares I am mining are going to Claymore?  The actual breakdown was 1,434 "Accepted Share" to 250 "DevFee Accepted Share".

Thank you for your help!!

It's probably connecting do a different pool with lower difficulty shares for the dev fee. Check your logs.

Since building my first rig last June, i've always had this rock-stable settings for six of my Asus Dual OC 580s 8GB Samsung memory

-cclock 1260
-mclock 2050
-cvddc 925mV
-mvddc 925mV

This yields me a constant 29.1 to 29.3 across all cards (175 total) and pulls about 1175 up to 1200w. High, I know but they go for weeks until needing a restart.

Earlier this week, I played with them again to squeeze in few more Mh. These are my settings:
-cclock 1140
-mclock 2075
-cvddc 875
-mvddc 875

They average a total of 177.5 now and cards hashes from 29.5 up to 30.0. But the best thing is they now only pull 1035w dual-mining with DCR.

Wow thats excellent results for those cards. I've checked some forums and noone was able to get those numbers.
I've tried different tweaked BIOS (even from RX480) which gave same results but nothing was stable for more than few hrs.
With blockchain driver the only stable bios was original with 1750 straps and -cvddc 1000 (28MHz).
Which BIOS do you use?

That's actually not great. Power usage could be much lower. For example I have a 4-card rig that pulls ~580W from the wall (with a bronze PSU so would prob be more like 550W with a gold). The rig pulls 80W @ idle so each card pulls about 125W under load. Stable for over 530 hours w/ over 29MH/s per card. If this were a 6-card rig it should only be pulling between 780W (gold PSU) to 830W (bronze PSU).

EDIT: Ahh nvm...just noticed he is dual mining DCR. Different story.

Lol how to get profit with mining. I have loss so much money for electric  Cry

It's somewhat hard times for miners right now.

Since the boom that happened over the summer there are a lot more GPUs driving up the difficulty lately. Add to that a bit of a downtrend in the alt market because of bitcoin forks, and you have the current situation.

Still, I don't think it's as bad as it was in 2015. The way to get profit is to hodl and look for undervalued projects. After the fork to 2MB blocks alts will probably recover.

Claymore keeps charging his 1-3% but refuses to fix this bug that is constanly reducing our payouts and earning from mining its really frustrating, I constaly get

connections closed on some machines on claymore v10 and v9.8 and when that happens the miner either crashes or i see that stupid 8mhs hash rate issue I am sure all other AMD and RX users are familar with

I wish there was another working miner i could use , but Genoli seems to have been abandoned /sigh

Can't say I'm familiar with that. My rigs run for weeks until I reboot them or unless they crashed because of something I screwed up, like having voltage too low/clocks too high, or not having the power cables connected properly, etc.
60  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Claymore's Dual Ethereum AMD+NVIDIA GPU Miner v10.0 (Windows/Linux) on: October 13, 2017, 12:12:54 AM
This is why you throw away those shitty SATA > Molex connectors and use the Molex cables that come with the PSU. It's not the wire gauge, it's the extra/crappy connectors. In open air you should be able to run 150W or more through the 12V wires even with 18 gauge. That should be enough to power 3 risers off of one Molex chain, and definitely safe for powering 2.

Alternatively there are newer risers that just take SATA. Haven't tried them but they'd probably work OK since, again, you don't need to use any janky adapters.

EDIT: Ok technical specs put it at 132W (11A * 12V) for 18 gauge...but still most cards shouldn't draw more than 45W through the slot (though technically they can draw up to 75W). Also there is some margin built into the ratings, so in open air with decent ambients and air flow, 3 cards per chain should be fine; and again, 2 is definitely OK (as long as you are not adding extra/faulty connection points into the circuit with crappy adapters, because that's where most of the resistance will be and can cause arcing).

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Molex_connector#Disk_drive

That said, I remember reading about early 480 (and maybe 470?) cards drawing stupid amounts of power through the slot...so I would be careful with those.
