I've always wanted a senator, but I couldn't decide whether I wanted a Republican or a Democrat. Maybe I'll just get one of each! Cheesy

Dunno how the Entropy device wasn't already funded by the first few days. Do people even know what it is? It's very cool.

“Imagine if all the postal companies called for email to be regulated when it was introduced all those years ago, and asked for emails to be delayed by several days so postal companies could compete.”

Good point.

50  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Gov. Brown signs bills legalizing Bitcoins use, other legislation on: June 30, 2014, 08:06:33 AM
No, but if I opposed they would throw me in prison. Will you be willing to join me? (Playing devil's advocate here).

Let there be dark.
51  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Gov. Brown signs bills legalizing Bitcoins use, other legislation on: June 30, 2014, 08:04:12 AM
The state keeps trying to rationalize why it needs to exist through legislation like this. I think it's mostly irrelevant.

You're not alone, I feel oddly overcome by my apathy at the moment actually.
52  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Gov. Brown signs bills legalizing Bitcoins use, other legislation on: June 30, 2014, 08:02:31 AM
Though the practical implications of this may be small, this is an important symbolic milestone.

Hmm... I'm still not sure how I feel about it quite yet, because despite this 'approval' I still want Dark Wallet and Dark Market to come out as soon as possible. Many forget that California has the 2nd highest capital gains tax in the World.
53  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Gov. Brown signs bills legalizing Bitcoins use, other legislation on: June 30, 2014, 08:01:10 AM
It's surprising that California was the first to do this...

Why?

If anything it makes perfect sense, California is the tech Capital of the World and the only annexed territory of the US (state) to actually be able to secede from the US without much of a drop in quality of life--if anything I would expect a significant rise in quality of life--given its economy; I think most sensible people know that the US is a drag on our lives, and one we can do without. And as I mentioned before, competing purpose-built currencies is ingrained in our very culture.

In fact I hope this encourages the secession movement to progress into something more than signing a petition that is ignored.
54  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Has Apple opened the door for bitcoin apps? | #bitcoin #apple #crypto on: June 30, 2014, 07:59:29 AM
Apple's strategy
1. Ban Bitcoin apps
2. People smash their iPhones
3. Allow Bitcoin apps
4. People buy new iPhones

4. People buy new iPhones with bitcoin

5. iTunes adds Bitcoin as a payment option

6. Satoshi Nakamoto buys Apple
55  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Apple Approves Bitcoin Wallets on: June 30, 2014, 07:57:45 AM
HTML5 = cross-platform. That has value.

This is true.
The effort wouldn't be all in vain, it's just that the main motivation in making the app was to provide an option for Apple users. If they have the choice of an in-browser HTML5 app and a native app from the store, the native app will probably win Wink
56  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Ask Amazon for Bitcoin Payments on: June 30, 2014, 07:56:01 AM
No no no no - too big, too soon.

You're not thinking clearly. I'm very bearish about the future of bitcoin, but this would be a really good thing for bitcoin. Amazon isn't just a giant online marketplace, it also has huge cloud resources and enough IT horsepower to render needing dozens of other exchanges pretty moot.

What exactly would Amazon do with the Bitcoins? They can't pay their employees or maintain their servers with it. Amazon would be the only major store taking Bitcoins. They would become bloated and Bitcoin would be worthless. Rick is right, it is too big and too soon. Economies need to cycle money and Amazon wouldn't have anywhere to put the Bitcoins after they have been paid.
57  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Marriage as a contract in the blockchain. on: June 23, 2014, 12:35:25 PM
I've always thought that contacts are for people you don't trust - something that you can hang over their head when they do you wrong. Why would you need a contract with your spouse?

I just prefer determining those things privately than through the state. More than anything, this is experimenting with breaking one of many social conventions most people grant as monopoly to the state to oversee.
58  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Let's all organize a shopping day. on: June 23, 2014, 12:33:54 PM

More for delineation of assets, rights, and responsibilities should things not work out. The best example I can think of is if we have children and she chooses to scale back on a good career to raise them; that is something I believe has value and should be compensated. The compensation, though, should be reasonable and bound to actual economic trade-offs.
60  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: US Marshals Accidentally Replies All To Anonymous Bitcoin Auction Bidders In Ema on: June 23, 2014, 12:26:31 PM
How could they e so inept? More importantly is the fact that the government seized the private property of individuals to begin with.
