Honey bees in the wild prefer to place their nests in areas where they can easily find food and water sources, as well as protection from the weather and predators. They can thrive in natural or domesticated environments, though prefer to live in gardens, woodlands, orchards, meadows and other areas where flowering plants are abundant. That is why APIZ apiaries are located in countries with diverse climate conditions favorable for natural beekeeping - Moldova, Ukraine, Kyrgyzstan, Andorra and Spain. We based the hives in ecological areas away from the harmful impact of human activity, which is beneficial for honey quality. We highly appreciate the importance of bees to the environment, therefore are focused on helping to keep bee populations healthy and far from the distinction. This way we are planning to create industrial apiaries on the territory of the European Union, in order to minimize the possible human impact on honey bees in the process of beekeeping. Moreover, we are going to expand and promote APIZ strategy to Asian and Indian Ocean countries, into less accessible areas, in order to harvest the purest and most beneficial honey. That region possesses great potential for beekeeping as well. By knowing precisely what we want to achieve we know where to concentrate all our efforts to turn APIZ plans into reality. When thinking about the project implementation at the very beginning, we have analyzed the best practices in order to optimize the beekeeping processes. Therefore, one of the APIZ Roadmap stages is implementation of innovative techniques and drones integration into apiaries maintenance. Together with the project's evolution we dive further and further into the most interesting exotic honey harvesting areas, and these places are often impassable. Thus drone technology could be highly beneficial for beekeeping intensification, taking control over the essential processes on the apiary, related to protection from insects and predators, early detection of the infection threat inside the hive, dispersing area against bacterias. As well, drones could be used to place the infected beehive into a quarantine zone, since it is crucial to stop the infection from spreading. Planting of melliferous seeds in the least accessible places can be also done using drone technology, resulting in a decrease of labor factor. Furthermore drones optimize the processes of apiary monitoring and enhance the process of water searching. ⚙️ Here comes the latest news from the APIZ laboratory by Lilian Otel, the Head of Telemetry Department Though the climate conditions paused the direct telemetry testing on the apiary, the intense activity is still boiling inside the APIZ laboratory. Our engineers are working closely on telemetry prototype version 2.0., bearing in mind the first results. In order to optimize and enhance the device we have implemented the following steps and solutions: ✅ We have significantly expanded the remote communication radius between the central data hub and the remote devices by switching on MESH networking. ✅ The implementing of new sensor design and controller installation has significantly improved the moisture resistance of the device. ✅The application of a new heat-resistant type of plastic has eliminated the thermal deformation of the telemetry device. ✅ We have also succeeded to reduce the size, weight and the production costs of the device by the upgraded design. ✅ The installation modules of weight sensors are enhanced in a way to eliminate errors and sinking under the excessive honey weight in a hive. ✅ We have discontinued the usage of connectors in the interior part of the device, consequently improving data accuracy and device reliability. ⏳At the moment we are still working on a telemetry new prototype, based on previous experience and first testing results.
