41  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: importing public keys, derivation paths and zero balance on: May 05, 2024, 06:25:49 PM
why do i see zero balance? i had some funds in it.
why don't i see the addresses that i previously used?

Search for the addresses in the block explorer. If there are no previous transactions, then the problem is most likely with derivation paths.

Since you did not generate xpub (in this case we call it Extended Public Key and not master private key) using electrum, you will need to modify the path to:

Code:
 m/49'/0'/0'/49'/0'/0'/0

This is assuming that we are talking about Legacy address.

What are you trying to do here? The easiest solution is to sync Bitcoin Core and then create a new Electrum wallet and send bitcoin to it.
after that export your master private key a.k.a watch-only wallet

42  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcoin advertisements are a bit outdated on: May 05, 2024, 05:55:38 PM
This topic was discussed last August https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5462123.0

Both information seems outdated but yet they are still valid.
The developers themselves modified the text in 2014 and we talk about Bitcoin Core
Bitcoin Core still (intentionally) contains a line that says "this software is experimental". The line saying that Bitcoin Core is beta software was removed in 2014.
43  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Trezor CoinJoin RIP on: May 04, 2024, 06:05:26 PM
The above news came as a surprise to me [Wasabi part]... I was under the impression that the zkSNACKs coordinator's behavior towards certain UTXOs would be enough to separate them from the rest, but I was wrong.
I thought so, or at least they would let them work in exchange for providing some data on suspicious transactions, or at least submitting them to the courts. Everything they do will push towards a decentralized coinJoin or Monero.

I wonder whether JoinMarket has the enough power to survive the current "tsunami".
JoinMarket is decentralized but they will try to target market makers to reduce liquidity.
44  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: If you can't afford to pay for electricity don't do mining on: May 04, 2024, 03:54:36 PM
Before looking for illegal electricity, review the legal status of Bitcoin. According to this article, Bitcoin is banned in Ghana.

Quote
Is cryptocurrency banned in Ghana?
Cryptocurrencies are banned in Ghana. Earlier this year, Ghanaian authorities reiterated this position, stating that the country's financial institutions are instructed not to engage in crypto-related transactions.
https://www.mariblock.com/ghanas-sec-sets-up-committee-on-crypto-regulations/#:~:text=Cryptocurrencies%20are%20banned%20in%20Ghana,engage%20in%20crypto-related%20transactions.

In addition to electricity, mining requires space, cooling, and noise reduction, which makes hiding a mining farm with dozens of devices very difficult.

It can be done easier with one miner, but it is better to buy Bitcoin.
45  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Principles Of Bitcoin on: May 03, 2024, 06:25:05 PM
Your principles need explanation. I read this several times and could not understand them:

Quote
Censorship Resistance: There should be certain resistance to power or individual from preventing valid transactions from being confirmed.

Quote
this principle state that there should be no requirement for IDs to access the network.
Isn't this a product of decentralization? Mining pools can request KYC before listing your transaction or block or not accept certain transactions, but as long as the network is decentralized, you will find the memepool accepting your transaction.

Funny how despite been reading or learning about Bitcoin and stuff, I have never read the white paper until today.
I do not know what the source of these principles is, but it is better to read the white paper. There are translations of it into most languages.

Principles of Bitcoin must be Bitcoin protocol and bitcoin Protocol features is Security, Unauthorized spending, Double spending, .... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bitcoin_protocol

The Fed has restarted printing money

More money and inflation are what the price may need now to rise strongly.
Will this have an impact on Bitcoin?
47  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Public Bitcoin API Faucet on: May 02, 2024, 02:25:15 PM
blockchair API is free if your requests are limited, and the paid service is for those who want more requests.
moofetch.mooo seems like a new service and it is difficult to trust it, especially when there are other available options.

LoyceV also provides such data https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5265993.0
48  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Help with a bit of information on mining history on: May 01, 2024, 12:46:40 PM

I read conflicting statements about that, hard for me to grasp but some guys talked about stopping mining when at a loss being even more of a loss, I understand that this would have been the case for companies not home miners but at the same time I don't think one could get their hands on the accounting sheets of a large company.
Companies that manufacture mining hardware do not mostly do mining, but rather offer hardware and solutions. BITMAIN manages the Antpool mining pool, which allows everyone who has a mining device to participate.
here is information about mining companies  https://companiesmarketcap.com/bitcoin-mining/largest-bitcoin-mining-companies-by-revenue/

Core Scientific and Marathon Digital Holdings are the largest companies with revenues of $0.50 B and $0.38 B.
49  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Blockchain synchronizing issue.... on: May 01, 2024, 12:26:45 PM
Update the app to the latest version, and if you have more than one account, Account#1 2 3 4 5, make sure that they are all synchronized.
Check the balances in Electrum > show addresses and then compare the addresses with their balance in Mycelium.
If the problem is not resolved, copy the about > logs and paste it here.

51  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Help with a bit of information on mining history on: April 30, 2024, 11:04:09 AM
- Is it safe to consider a miner with extremely cheap energy keeping on mining with an old but still profitable gear till the gears fails?
Mining is a business activity. If you can get old gear at a low price, immediate delivery, and have cheap electricity, it will be better than buying the latest equipment and waiting several months.
Miners cannot mine at a loss, everything must be carefully calculated.

Bitcoin Mining Museum[1] can partially answer your question. That website contain history of Bitcoin mining along with popular hardware at certain time.
Thanks for the link, I did not know that BITMAN had USB Bitcoin miner BITMAN U1,U2
52  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: what happend !! on: April 30, 2024, 10:46:42 AM
It is best to give sleeping Bitcoin addresses to the addresses that received Bitcoin in 2010, as they are the only ones that deserve it, and the last withdrawal of those addresses was in block numbers 839298 and 836425.
53  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Suddenly I'm curious, do I need to pay taxes on Bitcoin income? on: April 30, 2024, 10:02:36 AM
Do not ask chatgpt about your tax form, consult an accountant or tax professional as tax laws vary depending on your country, state and federal laws.
US IRS tax information about cryptocurrencies https://www.irs.gov/individuals/international-taxpayers/frequently-asked-questions-on-virtual-currency-transactions
In short, every sale that generates profits is subject to taxes.
54  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Bitcoin Mining Opportunities in Tanzania on: April 29, 2024, 12:58:37 PM
Cheap electricity encourages you to mine in any country, but there are necessary indicators such as security and political stability, corruption, weather, and the possibility of obtaining cheap energy throughout the year.

Quote the following

Quote
The government is constantly challenged on issues of effectiveness and rule of law, and the fight against corruption continues to be one of Tanzania's major challenges.

Tanzania is one of the poorest countries in the world, with a per capita income estimated at about $250 per year.

The tropical coast stays quite hot and humid with heavy and reliable rainfall, especially during the rainy season.

Corruption, poverty $250 per year, weak infrastructure, and it seems that bad rainy seasons will make mining unstable.

55  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Pools (Altcoins) / Re: Can only give this pool all the best ++++ on: April 29, 2024, 12:33:52 PM
Have tried to mine Digitalbyte 256sha and payments come many times a day, they also have Bitcoin cash Solo / but I cant understand if there is a payaout limit or only working for block lucky?

It works for block lucky as the mining pool is ckpool+ckdb open source engine and you can see that in the code

Code:
URL	stratum+tcp://pool.dgb256.online:8080
Worker YOUR_ADDRESS_worker1
Password x
56  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Malware / trojans detected on: April 29, 2024, 11:06:46 AM
false positives are reported because of pyinstaller3 or because some parts of miner software open ports and then request connection to external servers or redirect data. if you want to mine new altcoin, it is better to have a separate device and an open source operating system, or to run Windows software using Wine build.
57  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: ELI5 - What are those runes and how to they work on: April 28, 2024, 06:24:57 PM
It is random data that is stored on the Bitcoin blockchain and instead of being stored randomly it is stored as OP_RETURN.
You can create this data and try to sell it in the belief that someone will think that this data is valuable and worth buying, such as adding a meme pic on a halving day. It's trying to create something unique (add data) on the Bitcoin blockchain, pay a fee for it and hope that someone in the future will buy it. minting is the process of creating these tokens.
58  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Can what happened to Samourai Wallet happen to Electrum ? on: April 28, 2024, 05:56:59 PM
Assuming that the United States seized Samourai Wallet due to money laundering, but does the United States need a reason to ban a service? The United States may decide to ban wallets, including Electrum. If this happens, you can still use the wallet if there are servers running, or extract the private keys and add them to bitcoinCore or any other full node wallet.
Full node wallets are the only wallets that cannot be stopped, but if the developers are arrested, updating the code may be slow or unreliable.
59  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: bech32 addresses vs. bech32m addresses: which ones are cheaper for tx? on: April 28, 2024, 05:20:54 PM
Does someone know if Taproot Addresses (bech32m) are saving more fees compared to native SegWit (bech32) Addresses?
This tool is good for comparison https://bitcoinops.org/en/tools/calc-size/
Change the number of input and output addresses and the type of address and you can know the amount of savings.
60  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: If you have $200,000,but no miners, no mining experience, and no cheap electricit on: April 28, 2024, 04:57:34 PM
this is a great time to build a mine.  but and this is the big but five or six cent power is a must.

the s21 the modded t21 i did on my thread and ths L7 are very very very very good to make a mine with but you need five or six cent power.
I will choose to wait a little to see what Canaan and MicroBT will offer, as the latest version of the S21 Pro with the energy efficiency of 15J/TH, 234Th/s and a price of ~$5,500 means that the possibility of mining at a loss will be less, if Canaan and MicroBT provide better models. I will buy them, otherwise the S21 Pro is an ideal choice.
