41  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: satoshi mining alone on: July 18, 2024, 05:49:06 PM
Not only Satoshi mined, others did people of the likes of Hal Finney , Laszlo and GameKyuubi and many other old bitcoin supporters. At that time mining bitcoins required very little computational power and mining rewards were up to 50 bitcoins per block.

The fact is earliest miners mined bitcoin and ran nodes not because they knew bitcoin will be this big today but because the saw it as FUN. It was simply letting you computer play around with some hashes till a valid one was found and them you get some bitcoins as a reward.

43  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Electrum wallet Customer Care Service Number - Scam!!! on: July 16, 2024, 04:57:12 AM
Electrum is an open source software and it has no company or single person in charge controlling it it's more like a Free open source software. Majority of open source softwares just like ELECTRUM rely on free donations to fund the project. This reason alone is enough to let a smart person know that such a software won't have a customer care service.

Customer care services are for softwares, businesses or services that the developers or owners make profit from their customers so a customer care service is there to assist in keeping their customers. In the case of Electrum, the developers make no money from we using one of the safest open source softwares(Electrum). Open source softwares are free and no one is forced to use them. Think of Electrum as a gift from genuine bitcoin supporters.

Open source softwares are the best that is why it is nice to make donations to such projects like Electrum.
44  Other / Beginners & Help / HALVING GP and BURNING MATH [simplified] on: July 14, 2024, 03:55:30 PM
Before I proceed GP in this post refers to a simple maths expression known as geometric progression. And yeah this post is going to be related mainly to halving and crypto burning.

Let's dive right in;

Well, it's obvious that crypto halving is about cutting something about a cryptocurrency in half. But the question is what exactly??  Now  if we simply put supply it's wrong, similarly putting circulation is also a  misconception. For a simpler  understanding let's take bitcoin as a case study. Going a bit into Bitcoin economics, Bitcoin has a totally supply of 21 million coins. Now this 21 million supply is the maximum number of bitcoins that can be mined and hence put into circulation. Now the question is Since we aren't cutting supply in half in the case of halving what then?

Bitcoin uses a proof of work mechanism where coins are mined  into circulation through a process known as hashing. During the very first 4 years of the creation of Bitcoin, mining was far more profitable, as valid  hashes found during successive mining sessions brought more bitcoin rewards which was 50BTC per block .

In halving , these rewards are the ones that are cut in half.  Halving occurs on the Bitcoin network after every  successfully mined 210,000 blocks which takes Approximately 4 years and yes it's quite a constant period of time because the network is able to adjust it's difficultly based on the rate at which the previous block was mined. You can find more explanation about that on this quiz thread by Blackhatcoiner;

Based on the network protocol, the  halving reward per block gives a mathematical geometric progression having a first term of 50BTC , a second term of 25BTC ,a third term of 12.5 BTC...............  (50BTC , 25BTC , 12.5BTC ..........)

Below is a simple mathematical process giving a GP equation for halving rewards per block.

May seem new to some members here but it will be of help to those still trying to understand the whole halving process.

BURNING

Unlike halving that has a GP for successively new and reduced block rewards per halving, crypto burning doesn't. In halving the rate at which new coins are mined and added to circulation is being reduced without affecting the total supply.

Well burning is different. Although both are aims to regulate the value of the coin, burning means simply cutting off a relatively huge amount of the coins from circulation.

Take for example, before bitcoin became popular today, SATOSHI mined say 500,000BTC , stored them all in a single wallet and got rid of the keys, that's burning. Now take note that the effect of that burning doesn't affect the total supply of Bitcoin which is still 21 million, however is has removed 500,000 from the total amount of circulating coins, meaning if 5 million BTC had been mined at the time of the burning, bitcioners will only be able to circulate 4.5 million BTC + coins that will be successively mined after that by making bitcoin transactions.

Since the burning doesn't use a specific rate, we can't actually create a GP equation for it, except some coin existed which a fixed amount of it is constantly burned every period of time say 4 years. The truth is over time , as a coin begins to gain value burning would gradually become uneconomical since it's a loss of money to the person burning it.
Imagine burning 10,000 bitcoins today ( lol  Grin Cool Cool ) that would obviously be beyond crazy.
45  Other / Meta / Re: Lucius Merit Source Application🆕 on: July 14, 2024, 02:23:59 PM
Lucius is an active member and also a very good alt detector from what I know before now. Also looking at the image you posted from BPIP your sent merit cycle seems fit for someone applying for a merit source.

Anyways all I can say is welcome to the merit source waiting list Grin because lately it seems like theymos hasn't really been granting merit sources.
Anyways I wish you good luck hopefully theymos bumps on this thread of which he will definitely will (lol) like why not ? Not only me has mentioned him  now but many others in this thread I bet he might be using the notifier bot , anyways what I guess matters the most now is his approval.

Once again good luck  Cheesy

Let's see what we got here, for some time i went to bitcoin price wall observer [1] and saw that there were lots of users with their own unique avatars, some representing them. So, can i take 1 of 2 free design spots to create my unique avatar?

You can make whatever you want, there are no special requests, it's just the avatar must represent my username, it can be a [Pandora] box or something with the bitcoin logo. You can also use the bitcoin color palette [2] for the coloring, in case you are confused in choosing colors.

[1] https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=178336.0
[2] https://www.color-hex.com/color-palette/4955
Alright I'll be giving you one free avatar with your username. However I won't be using the wall observer hat format.

1free avatar design coming up  Wink

I will be participating in this contest it seems SportScore wasn't a scammer after all. +1 on the contest I hope to see the winner(s) soon.
53  Local / Politics and society (Naija) / Re: Problem of native language identity cause for concern, if not now in the future on: July 11, 2024, 07:44:03 PM
Nigeria isn't called a diverse nation for nothing. Currently Nigeria has over 760 ethnic groups which speak a span of over 400 languages with over 269 of them as distinct ones. Although we were colonised by the British, our English speaking isn't as native as most other British colonised countries because the English people didn't stay long enough with us before our independence.

Pidgin has become more adopted overtime by Nigerians as a consolidation of both English and local speaking. This is easy to notice because most pigin words are originated and morphed from English.
There have been numerous threads over time talking about pigin on our local board and the truth is both English and pidgin is totally welcomed here.

Pidgin originated from warri and spread out Nigeria and even the world so fast. Pidgin gives Nigerians a way to put aside their diversity whilst still speaking locally.
54  Economy / Services / Re: SportScore we looking for logo competition 3k$ BTC FOR WINNER! on: July 11, 2024, 04:25:32 PM
$3k is a nice price pool but I doubt members will take this seriously. What should make forum members not to think that the entire stuff is gonna be like cryptomus's campaign or some other scam scheme? If you are really representing SportScore, with a legit contest of this nature, why not get a reputable member to organise it Also with probably an escrow.
I'm a designer and it won't me funny wasting time on a logo that would be likely stolen or won't get it's worth.

Anyways good luck  Cheesy and if it turns out to be real I'll definitely participate.
55  Economy / Reputation / Re: o_e_l_e_o's 100 Most Merited Posts on: July 11, 2024, 03:55:38 PM
o_e_l_e_o was a very knowledgeable member on the forum and I benefited from his posts all the time. The guy was just a too good technical guy. It was as if he knew everything related to technical discussions and not just knowing them he had an experienced knowledge about it.

Infact my very first set of Merits came from o_e_l_e_o and a couple of active technical board members as he and a couple of forum members guided me on setting  up a standard air gapped device as well as the differences and dangers of  closed source and open source softwares. o_e_l_e_o I think having over 18,000 earned merit is enough to show his contributions to the forum as earning such huge amounts of Merits without actually merriting it will draw the attention of forum members negatively.

On top all of that o_e_l_e_o was quite a nice guy so painful to this space he had leave after fighting health issues for sometime. I think I wrote a Poem for him after he left Also, a +1 to you Pmalek for putting these together it will answer a couple of questions for forum members.

I believe this thread is self moderated because of kruw  Cool because when last I checked he has been , should I say o_e_l_e_o 's die hard hater Undecided

57  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum Seed Phrase Reduce from 12 to 11. How Possible is it? on: July 09, 2024, 03:33:29 PM
(it's not recommended to use it though)
This thread just gave me a clearer understanding of the whole seed phrase stuff though I still have a couple of questions like ; Why is it not recommended to make use of the custom generated seed like the example you gave.
And would such a seed be considered as a custom electrum seed?

Seed phrases can be extended to above 12 with custom words . Also they can't be reduced to 11.
Either you miscounted or the suggestion electrum gave which happened to be the last word was picked by you unknowningly.
