41  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: is this the end of Bitcoin & Altcoin dream ????, Apple introduced "Apple PAY" on: September 10, 2014, 06:48:56 AM
I think it's very nice of Apple to get people used to paying for things with their cellular phones.  The transition to using Bitcoin will be a very seamless next step for the masses.

Most modern PoS (point of sale) systems already contain the ability to integrate with this.  The problem is that most of them are currently turned off due to a lack of demand.  If apple can make this cool, then we are one step closer to getting mass PoS adoption of crypto payments.
42  Other / Archival / Re: BitSharesX and BitUSD: What is it? A Short Overview for the Rest of Us on: September 10, 2014, 06:31:55 AM
Just following up on this as it will be interesting on Wednesday when interest is added to BitUSD.

Also, based on all the feedback it appears the market peg is working albeit with training wheels.
https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php?topic=8358.0

This has been one cool experiment to watch.

Interest on bitassets will be awesome.  You will be able to short bitUSD, buy your own short, hold onto it to collect interest, and then cover your short.

What I really can't wait to get going is bitGLD though.  I might just go long on that.  Hopefully there's enough volume in bitGLD to pay a decent interest rate.
43  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What is the Most Innovative Cryptocurrency/Technology? on: September 10, 2014, 06:27:11 AM
BTSX as well.
44  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: BitShares hit #3 on CoinMarketCap on: August 22, 2014, 06:39:07 AM
Back down to 4th again. If you look at the BTSX charts it looks incredibly scary. This isn't going to end well at all.

Doesn't look "back down to 4th again" on any market I look at.

As a matter of fact, IT'S HEADED FOR NUMBER 2 pretty darn fast.

Capitalization growth isn't exponential.  Anyone who buys now is either brave or is new to cryptos and think they won't end up being a bagholder.  The amount of risk for investing capital right now outweighs any potential ROI.  It's great to be the guy who bought in at under 3 million capitalization but anyone who buys in now won't see any ROI commensurate with the risk involved.

By the way the asset exchange for NXT sent them to a high of $90 million in early June.

The issue here is nobody knows f*ck all who Bitshares X is.  This is purely a speculators' market by a few rich investors who are currently emptying their wallets and turning this into a ponzi scheme for rich wallets but the problem is there'll be no subsequent buyers.

We all saw the Bitshares' forum where there's 1-2 Chinese funds buying Bitshares.  Question is who'll be coming in to buy after them?  That's what I thought nobody.  It's not remotely sustainable capitalization growth and there'll be a lot of butt hurt in the coming days or weeks.

You could know all you wanted about bitshares.  The information is out there.  There are even individuals that go out of their way to make receiving that information as easy and pain free as possible.  Don't pretend that this is a new thing that just popped up.  I'm sorry if you didn't buy in when you could have.
45  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: BitShares hit #3 on CoinMarketCap on: August 22, 2014, 06:28:07 AM
Holy shit almost 60M.  If you have not heard yet.  This is not just another clone coin. If bit assets track like I expect them to...
46  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: BitShares hit #3 on CoinMarketCap on: August 21, 2014, 11:52:09 PM
I see. So I suppose the way to go about this is to prod Cryptsy about implementing BitShares and then this will happen there as well.

Thats what I would do.

I've had 56 PTS for a long while - since they were initially released! - and missed the PTS -> X event completely.

How much money did I lose, is it too late to get any Xs, and how dumb am I?

You simply need to import your PTS wallet into the BTS X wallet as long as you held PTS before the Feb 28 snapshot date.

They were on Cryptsy, where I bought them. :\

You are currently out of luck then.  Although poloniex just honored the 2-28 snapshot.  I would start talking to cryptsy.  if my rough estimate is correct you would be looking at around 30k BTSX

You mean funds on Poloniex were honored for the change?
I didn't have any funds on poloniex so I'm not 100% sure, but from what I have heard BTSX has already been deposited into poloniex accounts that held pts on 2/28/14 proportional to their balance.  If you had pts in poloniex on 2-28 you should check your account.

How long? Well..

A few days ago it was challenging NXT, now it's challenging Ripple, and neither the marketing campaign nor bitAssets are launched yet..
if bitassets arent launched whats the markets thing in the wallet? (sorry im a numbskull)

the functionality is built into the wallet, but will not be turned on until we can be sure that enough users are on the correct wallet.  Launching the assets will be a hard fork, and will disconnect anyone not using the current wallet.  Current wallet is 0.4.5 get it at https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php?topic=7248.0

The question is how long...

Til #2?  That might take a little while.

BTS ia a joke Grin

What about it is a joke to you?

Well, this is by far the most complicated, poorly-functioning crypto platform I've ever tried to work with.

First you need to "register" your account ID by receiving some bitshares.

But don't buy them from the exchange because you can only send those to pre-registered BTSX addresses.

So, unless you catch somebody in a good mood who's willing to part with some BTS, you're SOL (shit-outta-luck) registering your Bitshares X wallet.

The private key import feature does not work on the newest BTSX platform release, so you cannot import your Angel Shares or Proto Shares except by finding an older version from a non-official source, which I haven't been able to do yet.

Frankly crowd-sourced projects like this just seem to be mainly rich kids giving their money away to even richer kids.

Remember when "Ethereum" was still a thing? This project has the exact same vibe to it.

You can fund yourself easily by going to https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php?topic=6122.msg81960#msg81960

importing of private keys is working for me on 0.3.1 on linux both gui and command line.. Remember that if the account you are importing isn't registered on the blockchain you will have to import it into an account.  This can be done either with the gui by going to the account and then going to advanced, or from the console by typing wallet_import_private_key <private key> <account name>

If the account is already registered on the blockchain you can leave off the account name at the end of the command.

It may be a bit confusing at first, but the benefits of TITAN far outweigh the drawbacks.  Sending to a name rather than a alpha-numeric key, and true anonymity.

52  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: How to fund Bitshares X account? on: August 04, 2014, 07:34:08 PM
There are a couple of wallets and some basic instructions on how to get registered here https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php?topic=6122.msg81960#msg81960

You can also just click that link and take a look at the wallet.
53  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Bitshares-PTS to double/triple in price in the next 45 days!!? on: August 02, 2014, 08:17:26 AM
What would you recommend me to buy-PTS or BTSX? I have about 17k BTSX and no PTS.

If you are looking to flip them for a profit then I can't really advise you, as I am not sure myself.  I think they are both cheap right now.  If you are interested in the BitSharesX family of dacs (trading, banking, derivatives tied to real world price) then you should stay in BTSX, If voting or DNS is more your speed you should go into PTS.
54  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Namespaces DAC - BitShares-PTS Snapshot date 21st Aug on: August 02, 2014, 07:52:20 AM
This is damned exciting.  This dac is one of the first things that attracted me to bitshares.
55  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: BitShares IPO : get in if u r smart ! on: July 27, 2014, 06:50:57 AM
BitShares will not succeed for a variety of reasons. The main being its much to complicated for the average user. Thats all there is to it, 99% of the world wouldn't understand how BitShares works, and they aren't going to take the time to learn how. Bitcoin is a simple concept. Internet money. Done.

Odds are this completely falls apart within the next several months.

99% of the world doesn't understand how bitcoin works.  Its enough if they can learn how to use it.  Have you played with the wallet?  Its still early, but I think its well designed and intuitive.  With some of the planned upgrades such as confirmed registration of email addresses, it will be much less daunting for beginners than bitcoin currently is.
56  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Official BitShares X support thread. [BTSX] on: July 27, 2014, 12:51:26 AM
No datadir=... option? I want to change the default directory (C:\Users\Username\AppData\Roaming\BitShares X).

edit:

Next question: How to fund my account and where is my wallet address???

This might help https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php?topic=5777.0

It's best to register a name, however to register a name you need BTSX, someone will send you, or I think there is a faucet somewhere to get started. It is supposedly anonymous. Make sure you back up your wallet from the menu once registered.

Is it possible to import protoshares keys (from Februrary) before registering a name?

I believe so.

It is 100% possible or you can go to the online wallet.   I don't have tone to track the link down at the moment.  Search my history ava you'll find the link.

**edit** sorry about the crap auto correct on my phone.

What's the difference between BTS X vs BTS XT? Or are they the same product? Where are the other DAC's?

If any newly mined PTS, will that get more BTS X or was that only for the Feb 28th snapshot only?

X is the official chain.  XT is the test network.  There was some talk of naming a stripped down chain designed to do nothing other than get the 2-28 snapshot liquid, XT.  Newly mined PTS will not get you any BTSX, but there are more DACS coming.

So, if I acquire more PTS, it will still count towards the future DAC's(minus BTSX)?

Correct.

is anybody else having trouble logging onto  bter.com ?

No, fine for me but think they may be having BTSX withdrawal problems at the moment.

It seems like the withdrawal problems are largely fixed now.
