I simply can not get it to use the right fork. I am guessing that I am simply having problems with the client using the new config information. I don't really know.

Have you thought about joining Blocknet?
All options are open.
I have a small team of people helping me for developing EnergyCoin.
First step is a realable BlockChain and the one running now is maybe a candidate but rollback is also posible.
When the next steps are clear I post the plans we have for the future development of EnergyCoin.
I was also invited by james777 to join Supernet but EnergyCoinCR did not respond then.
I see EnergyCoin in the center of envirimental applications so maybe other coins like MintCoin, SolarCoin, CarbonCoin, GreenCoin and other enviriomental currencies can join "The Green eXchange" with real world application as CO2 trade, green Energy, Biomass, and much more. The big picure is in my head and I have now great help of skillfull people.

More help is welcome and if you can contribute send me PM or email.
I need a trustfull administrator for development of the website www.energycoin.pw and forum moderators there.

Have a nice day!
Jan Clement
@GEO_Jan

So we are running a chain? I stopped my wallet when it was clear that I had gone over the last official block. So, if we are running, then how do I make sure I am on the chain I need to be?

I can believe how naive some people are. You guy believe someone will just come and invest their money because you believe in Energcoin thar won't happen in million years. And can tell you something else might not active anymore but my believe in what the EnergyCoin can achieve is unshakeable just because I don't just buy coins and talk crap alk day everyday. This will upset the so call "believers" but I don't really care. You can relaunch the coin make some code change your are still doom to fail epicly as you are not will to pursuit your own ideas about energycoin and its implentation possibilities.
So get of your bottoms and do something useful.
I can't keep stop laughing everytime I come and read this thread and the fact you manage to fork the coin. I don't see anything done what so ever by anyone and I mean anyone. So for the last 6 months I have left you to do you have manage nothing.
Slient is right for one thing and one thing only BTC IS THE ONLY VIABLE INVESTMENT OPTION as investors don't care about your blind believe they seen opportunities where money can be made.
Start pouring money towards software development and real life implentation.
If you believe in Jan idea of green tree register why haven't single one of you has not offered to give money towards development of this idea?
You just wait someone else to do it for you and you just buy the coins.

Well, at least you get a laugh out of energycoin. That means it's not useless. lol.

Now, as to your rant that no one is doing anything.. Don't be so sure. I am developing ideas to use Energycoin for at least 3 different projects related to solar generation. Im not in a hurry to implement my ideas just yet because I think Energycoin has a future and I think it will be around when I want to use it.  I also continue to use my hardware to support the network and that investment will likely grow over time.

As for the tree registry thing. Well, I don't fully understand it and I do not fully understand if it is meant for just a certain geographic area. I have not asked because I am pretty sure that the idea is not useful in my area ( Canada ) but if it is meant to be global, then, yeah, I can see getting off my butt and doing something with it.

I never support things based on other peoples reasons. Investors would be great, but if they do not see a future in this coin, that dose not effect me in the slightest.

What strikes me about your post is when they said the speed of sound could NEVER be passed. Guess what.. Humanity now goes fasted then the speed of sound at will around the world any time the need arises. It will likely be the same for the speed of light, but who knows.

BTW, I invest in many coins including BTC, so taking time to invest in Energy is no big stretch for me and it's something I believe in. Dose not matter if no one else ever will, it only matters that I will continue to support it.

"If you think it through you can see it: Euros, dollars and all the other legal tender around the world are only worth because we all agree they are ... and as such, we accept them as trading tokens and carry out hour lives using it.
In that sense, *any* cryptocurrency can become useful. Hell, *anything* can become useful as a trading token - just go through history and check everything that has been used as money throughout humanity's journey Smiley
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Yeah, you should see me explain to people that money has no real value and watch their face contort in all kinds of strange ways. There is actually a need for Crypto as currency and that need is being seen by more people now then in the recent past. So, the idea that the blockchain is the only part of Bitcoin ( or any coin ) that has value is hard to foresee. I think both the token aspect and Technological aspect of Crypto will live on into the future.

Also, as much as some people would scratch their heads at this idea, there is a good possibility that the US government ( for various reasons ) was initially the creator of Crytocurrency/Blockchain Tech. Think about it, the US knows it's own currency may be in trouble one day and they decide to create a currency online that they can appear to be distant from ( so as not to cause panic on the Dollar )  something they can grow a user base around without undue worry about the dollar and then, if the worst happens and all has gone well, there is already an established base of users and businesses accepting the currency.

I grant you that the above is my own personal "maybe" and only one possibility out of many, but I do not see the government going to war on Bitcoin or even cash. I see a diversification of something that used to be strictly central and that is giving many people who are established in the old system lots of trouble in understanding.

The take away is really that what we are eventually going to see is something hybrid between central and decentralized monetary systems and in getting there, there will likely be room for even more "Altcoins" then there are right now.   No one can argue though that blockchain tech is not highly innovative and disruptive, because it is both.

Hi community,

I officially announce I take over the development of EnergyCoin.
Have send several messages to EnergyCR and now I changed the password of EnergyCoin.pw

And it's finally yours Smiley  Good luck Jan, your perseverance led you here, may it take you ahead too.
And the same goes to all those that have been with you - If I'm not mistaken, you are the very last of the original holders of the coin ... and certainly the only one left from the initial team.

Word of advise though: unless you're about to become a programmer with skills to match a crypto endeavor and rescue ENRG, you better get a new dev to pick up and continue the work.

My two cents on ENRG: since you now "own" the name and can make a claim about it, perhaps a complete reboot of the coin would be the best way forward. It would allow for a fresh start on all fronts, including developing the coin with code anew

Whatever way you all go, good luck

(PS - yes, I never stopped reading the thread. But I'm not in to believing anymore ... this coin or any other. So, there's only one that as some real world use, the original BTC. Take care)

I do not agree that Bitcoin will be the only coin of any value in the future. Even in the event of implementation of side chains. In fact that tecnical failure that Energycoin has suffered points to a need for a diverse crypto space that can serve specialized markets.  Though most people in the Bitcoin space like to think that Bitcoin is now beyond certain modes of technical failure that would be hard to correct, most of those thoughts are dead wrong. Every technological thing can break and in times of a broken Bitcoin, other coins would be useful, even if only temporarily.

I think you'll find a use case for using a separate coin for energy and energy conservation, things that Bitcoin was not explicitly deigned to do.

I have same block as has been listed here.

Ok, we are on forks now.

I finally sync to block height 1051199. The block info matches with the blockchain explorer:

And according to the blockchain explorer, we have at least 7 forks at block height 1051200. Each one has different block hash and different time stamp.

That is why my wallet cannot go further beyond block height 1051199. Bittrex’s wallet should have the same issue.

https://bittrex.com/Status

Since someone raised a concern about potential attack, I’d suggest to have Jan sync to block height 1051199 first (if he has not done so) and have him to mine 1051200 onwards until he feels comfortable he should be the largest chain. This will kill all other forks currently mining from 1051200 along with attacks (if any) on these forks. And more importantly, all funds on Bittrex will be safe. We need to protect investors currently buying this coin too.

Why Jan? Just because everyone here trusts him and I suppose there is no motivation for him to attack the network. Smiley

Everyone agrees with it?

 Agreed Thank you sir.

Is there a download for where we can get your local copy of the chain? Im not sure how we could compare blockchain info if we cant see what you have. I might be missing something or misinterpreting what you want though so Im sorry if I misunderstand.

I had a look at bitrex to see if they have the wallet online or if they listed it as a problem. Indeed, the wallet is listed as "blocked" ( no activity for 60 mins or more ). I thought to check this just in case the coin was hijacked somehow and still being traded on a fork.

Correct me if Im wrong, but this coin has hardcoded nodes dose it not? In other words nodes that are coded into the client for clients to use to Sync..I know that you can add nodes, but if you have hard coded nodes and something happens to them, what would be the result?  could something like this happen if those nodes where compromised in some way?
Hi Haron,

I send you and sardokan the downloadlink.
The wallet is now out of sinq, so fork stopt?

Yes, if you want, you can link me your copy of the chain and Ill take a look and compare what I have.I had one wallet up and it is still stuck I have my other one restored from a backup of the chain that I made on Feb 18th of 2015. That is currently re syncing but I do not think that is likely to change things. It was important enough for me to try to do it though, just to see.

At this point, I agree that we need to find a way to a known good snapshot of the chain and fork, but I can make the suggestion and understand the concept better then I understand HOW to make that happen.

I should point out that I am dedicated to no only finding a solution but sticking with this coin. Even more so if we where just attacked because I will not let a cyber punk win easy. That would just burn me up if I let someone turn me off from something because they felt like coming in and wrecking it.

From what I see on other blocks, this is not right. All the other blocks I look at, there is only one line in the Next Block. This one has 7 lines.

Before I put my 2 cents in I need to ask if there is a way that we can get the current chain moving by creating nodes that agree to start talking to one another starting 2 blocks  back on the current chain. essentially Im asking if the network can be "rebooted" by forking the current chain.   It is unfortunate that I have very little programming background and this situation might poke me to start changing that.

I am looking at this as a great opportunity. Even if we cant recover the current situation, we can take what we learn here and build something new that perhaps includes what we would have liked the coin to be to begin with. I would support a new coin or other situation that helped us get by this but i think it's important to learn what happened here so that anything we do after this includes the ability to keep something like this from happening again or to fix it if it dose happen again.  I plan to do what I can to support things but my limited programming ability is going to leave me out of the development side of things for now.

I suspect that this might have been an attack because after looking at the chain explorer there is multiple "next block" hashs where I notice that many times there  is only one next hash line associated with a block.

What ever happened, deliberate or not, I think if we could start processing one block back from the current stuck block and move forward things would likely start moving again. problem is, if it was an attack it can keep happening if we do not understand it.

Is there a way to see what node/client processed a transaction? I would love to be able to see more detail on what happened with that hash rate spike.
52  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][ENRG]Energycoin - Android Released - Bittrex - on: March 28, 2015, 10:28:13 PM
Maybe someone could answer me this question but.... Why would the below happen on the Enrgy Network.

Ok, so,here is the last block that seems to be recorded. [1051200   2015-03-27 16:31:34] Now, the block we are all stuck on.[1051199   2015-03-27 15:04:04]. Notice that this last block is generated nearly 90 mins after the block we are all stuck on? Up to that point it seemed like we where generating multiple blocks just in 1 mins time.

It's like right after block 1051199 the network just stops for near 90 mins and then block 1051200 gets processed and added to the chain. I have a real need to know what really happened in that near 90 mins between blocks because thats likely where our collective shit luck began.
53  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][ENRG]Energycoin - Android Released - Bittrex - on: March 28, 2015, 07:33:47 PM
Seems to me that recently Litecoin had been attacked by someone flooding it with extremely small transactions. They ended up bringing up the transaction fee for certain types of transactions to make such a situation more expensive then it is worth. Looking at energycoin explorer somehow makes me feel it could be a similar situation.  Then again, what I am seeing could be the result of something else.

The value out just looks wrong compared to most of the other value outs Im seeing.
54  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][ENRG]Energycoin - Android Released - Bittrex - on: March 28, 2015, 07:22:03 PM
Dose anyone know if it is possible to broadcast to all nodes simultaneously?  My idea is that if we could somehow tell all nodes and clients to move back a block or so that the network might rebound and simply not falter at this current block.

I know that there are a number of issues with this idea and I also know that it would seam to go against the nature of crypt currency but I think if we could simply either go back just before this block and have it reprocess or find a way to skip it all together, that might show movement. I could also see where it might make things worse though. In certain cases in other areas of computer data transmission and storage, simply bypassing bad or corrupt data can propagate the problem down the line.

Is there a way to simply tell the network to get by this?
55  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][ENRG]Energycoin - Android Released - Bittrex - on: March 28, 2015, 05:08:33 PM
I dont know. I will be looking at ideas when i get home. Waiting for a bus home now.

It might help to look through the chain for the last few trasactons for clues to what went wrong.
56  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][ENRG]Energycoin - Android Released - Bittrex - on: March 28, 2015, 02:51:45 PM
Yep, I have this problem as well. I have a pi 2 and an original B model pi running wallets. They both stopped syncing at 11:04:04 AM Mar 27 2015.

Both pis have no errors on SD card and both pis have just over 10 GB remaining space. I see no hardware or other problems on my side that can contribute to this.

Edit to confirm I am stuck at the very same block as what is pictured above.

Possible fork/ Disagreement in the chain?
57  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][ENRG]Energycoin - Android Released - Bittrex - on: March 12, 2015, 12:03:38 AM
Ah, I almost forgot, I wanted to mention that I will be putting in some more regular buy support for energy starting around the 20th of March. I have been constrained by a limited budget for buying coins and the fact that I am scooping up some Litecoin. After the 20th I will be almost entirely on Bitcoin and Energycoin only.

58  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][ENRG]Energycoin - Android Released - Bittrex - on: March 11, 2015, 11:52:39 PM
You are right, I think I have messed things in my brain and the lot of files I previously had where logs  Roll Eyes (I'm getting old  Grin)

Sometimes looking at this stuff turns me around too and I have been building and maintaining computers for 25 years. I don't think it's age, I think this stuff can really mess with thy brain.

I do have to thank you though, I really do need to be more mindful of the file system on SD cards. I tend to get way to excited by new hardware and I miss small details.
59  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][ENRG]Energycoin - Android Released - Bittrex - on: March 11, 2015, 11:22:53 PM
People may correct me if Im wrong on this but these are the 2 files concerning the blockchain.

BLK0001.dat and BLKINDEX.dat

If so, then this is what the size looks like.

 BLK0001.dat

 Size of file: 506,112,981
 Size on disk: 506,118,144

-----------------------------------------------

 BLKINDEX.dat

 Size of file: 729,612,288
 Size on disk: 729,616,384

-----------------------------------------------

These where the sizes on my RPI 2 and you can see with 4M block size, it dose good as far as space utilization.
60  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][ENRG]Energycoin - Android Released - Bittrex - on: March 11, 2015, 11:04:26 PM
I just had a look and, yeah, Im at 4M block size on my file system. I do take a hit on small log files but so far what Im seeing indicates that most of my files are large enough to justify keeping my file system the way that it is.

I think I will watch it and see if I start accumulating small files to the point where reclaiming the wasted space is a good idea.

I think the blockchain use a file per block, but maybe I'm wrong.
I will have to have a look. Last I checked though, I have only seen 1 unified file as the blockchain. I could be wrong though.
