I did, thanks for putting that out there.

I think I finally got everything working in ubuntu.  The official binary seems to work out of the box in ubuntu.  Bitcoin definitely needs help integrating with debian, though.  I will keep you in mind if I stumble again genjix Smiley

I would totally pay for a service like this.  I've been struggling for days trying to get bitcoind setup on debian (lenny) without it making my server unstable/memory leaks, etc.  I'm trying a total reinstall with ubuntu this time because I hear you can run the official binaries on it, but its a shot in the dark.

If this sounds like trivial stuff to you, HELP ME...I will be this first customer of this fledgling company!

I take it as good sign that this post seems to be totally ineffectual at moving the market.  Bitcoin took on normal speculative market behavior around december last year, another great sign that bitcoin is legit.  When I say "normal" behavior, I am talking about punctuated growth, ups and downs, impulsive and corrective moves.  Don't get seduced into the trap of trying to explain the moves in the BTC exchange rates with "outside forces" like the Japan disaster or investor psychology like "people are afraid of Bitcoin."  The correction we are in is natural and good for a speculative market.  It weeds out the over optimistic.  My bet is on long-term appreciation of Bitcoins, but don't expect the path to be a straight line...

SO is it possible to install bitcoind on debian lenny?

I installed the package on my server, but I have no idea where the program was installed.  I'm a bit of a Debian newb, so maybe it is obvious, but how do I run bitcoind and set up the config file like it talks about here:

Thanks to anyone who can help me Smiley

Personnally I stick with the bitcoin.org tarball install, but I guess that once you've installed the bitcoin-cli package, all you have to do is to run "bitcoind".

What message do you get when you try that?

I think this package may have a memory leak because my memory filled up while using it, and now that it's off my machine, I don't have that problem any more.

I'm not sure how to do the bitcoin.org tarball install.  Does anyone know of a good tutorial on it for debian?
