41  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Home Folder Encryption for Armory. Good or Bad? on: March 16, 2015, 11:12:09 PM
Thanks for both of the postings. I agree that my paper backup provide good protection against my data going corrupt.

However, what I wanted to know is something different. Mainly, does running Armory, Bitcoin Core, and the blockchain within my encrypted HOME folder mean these apps are running slower compared to if they were all running within a HOME folder that is not encrypted?  In other words, does HOME folder encryption slow things down a lot for apps running within an encrypted folder? Any opinion welcome.
42  Bitcoin / Armory / Home Folder Encryption for Armory. Good or Bad? on: March 16, 2015, 03:49:25 PM
Fellow Forum Members,
I just installed Ubuntu-14.04.2 LTS 64bit and during installation it asked me if I wanted my entire hard drive encrypted? I said no to that.  Then it asked me if I wanted my HOME folder encrypted?  I said yes to that. Was that a good or bad decision?

Since Bitcoin QT, Armory and the blockchain data reside inside the encrypted HOME folder am I asking for trouble by going with encryption or does it make no difference? My concern is that using encryption may eventually corrupt either my Bitcoin QT, Armory or my blockchain data. Is this a valid concern?

I would appreciate getting any opinions on whether running Armory and Bitcoin QT inside an encrypted HOME folder is a good idea or a bad idea.  Thanks in advance.

Goatpig,
Is the plan for a new release to come out?  In other words, will version 0.93.0.90 be coming out soon to replace version 0.93.0.80 ?  Or is the new fix going to be amended to 0.93.0.80 ?
44  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Users experiencing the BDM error message on: March 12, 2015, 07:09:30 PM
Just to clarify.

Because of this latest bugfix we should avoid installing 0.93.0.80 for now and wait for a different revision number to be releaed.

Am I correct?
45  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Users experiencing the BDM error message on: March 12, 2015, 04:04:34 AM
My sincere thanks to the entire team that worked on this release. I will be installing it tomorrow. However, can anyone in this forum please clarify the following:

Do I need to completely wipe out Armory version 0.93, Bitcoin QT version 10, and my entire blockchain data from my hard drive?

In other words do I need to start from scratch with a new bootstrap file for the blockchain and the latest versions of Armory and Bitcoin QT?

I ask because I was getting all the BDM errors that were plaguing Armory version 0.93.

Lastly, when will the 93.0.80 links shown above be posted in the Armory download site below? :

https://bitcoinarmory.com/download/

Again, thanks to everybody that worked on this new Armory release.

46  Bitcoin / Armory / Does starting from scratch fix BDM problem? on: March 09, 2015, 03:06:55 PM
Fellow Forum Members,
I'm just seeking some advice before I embark in the following course of action. I'm thinking about erasing my entire blackchain, bitcoin QT v10 and Armory v 093 installation with the hope if I start from scratch my BDM bug will get fixed and I can get back to using Armory.  Will starting from scratch with a fresh new installation eliminate the BDM error I'm currently experiencing?  Also does installing version 0.92.3 offer a bug free experience?  Any comment welcome.
47  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Users experiencing the BDM error message on: March 09, 2015, 04:41:48 AM
JUst to confirm. Once this BDM error is fixed will it be announced in this thread or on some other thread. I just want to make sure I'm checking up on the correct thread.  Lastly, will the 93.1 Armory release become available tomorrow?
48  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Armory Bootup Crash on: March 03, 2015, 06:13:06 PM
It looks like this issue, it's being worked on:

Users experiencing the BDM error message

Thanks for your post Btchris.  I looked over the thread for the link you provided and it seems to describe the same problem I am currently experiencing. You mentioned in the thread you had the bugfix installed and were not experiencing any problems. Will the bugfix automatically install or do we have to download it from the Armory website and install it ourselves?  Thanks in advance.
49  Bitcoin / Armory / Armory Bootup Crash on: March 03, 2015, 05:05:31 PM

Fellow Forum Members,
Is anyone else out there getting the same error message shown in the screen capture below?  My problem started when for testing purposes I sent .26 cents to my Armory watchonly wallet from my blockchain.info wallet and the .26 cents was not correctly displaying in the  "Spending Fund" area.  So I selected "Rebuild and Rescan Database At Startup" option for the purpose of getting my "Spending Fund" to correctly show as .26 cents  (.001 BTC).  Doing this fixed my "Spending Fund" problem because it was showing the correct .26 cents  (.001 BTC) amount yesterday. However, today I now get the error message shown below. In addition, my Armory has now frozen in the in the beginning of the bootup process.

I'm using Bitcoin Core 0.10 and Armory 0.93

Any opinion or comment will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

50  Bitcoin / Armory / Armory Transaction Newbie Question on: March 02, 2015, 11:41:00 PM
Fellow Forum Members,
Below is a screen capture of the transaction info window for my first Armory transaction I did for testing purposes. It was for the amount of .25 cents USD or 0.001 Bitcoin. I sent 25 cents over to my Armory watchonly wallet as a test and what I do not understand is the  "0.1989 Amount" value shown at the bottom of the screen capture under the "Transaction Outputs (Receiving addresses):" header. Why does Armory display my Blockchain.info wallet public key with a "0.1989" ($53.5 USD) amount when the only amount should logically be for a "0.001" (.26 cents) amount ?  In other words, I never sent "0.1989" ($53.5 USD) from my Blockchain.info wallet to my Armory watchonly wallet therefore this "0.1989" ($53.5 USD) amount does not make sense to me. To gain some understanding I clicked on the question mark next to the "Sum of Outputs" because I don't understand the "0.1999 BTC" value. And the text in the Popup window does not make sense to me.  Any opinion will be greatly appreciated.

Also I'm confused with how Armory shows 0.00000000 BTC for Spendable Funds. However for both Maximum Funds and Unconfirmed it displays: "0.00100000".  36 Confirmations have been processed and Armory for some reason is not seeing my .25 cents as "Spendable Funds".  Any opinion on this will also be welcomed.  Thanks.

51  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Receive Bitcoin with Offline or Online Wallet? on: March 02, 2015, 10:52:56 PM
JUst to update.  I found an answer to my own question.
52  Bitcoin / Armory / Receive Bitcoin with Offline or Online Wallet? on: March 02, 2015, 04:38:57 PM
Fellow Forum Members,
I hope someone out there could clarify for me the correct way to receive a bitcoin to my offline PC for cold storage. Does a receive transaction begin by selecting my ONLINE PC watching only testwallet and then select the "Receive Bitcoins" button?  Or does it begin by selecting my OFFLINE PC testwallet and then select the "Receive Bitcoins" button?  Any comment welcome.  Thanks.
53  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Sweeping vs. Importing Newbie Question on: February 27, 2015, 03:26:16 AM
Thanks to all who posted in my thread. I seem to be getting conflicting information. Therefore, I think the best thing to do is to experiment using both techniques and learn for myself what is the best approach to moving bitcoins stored in Coinbase.com / Blockchain.info / Circle.com over to Armory cold storage on my offline PC.  Thanks again for all of your comments.

If you're going to experiment, consider Testnet.

Goatpig,
Thanks for introducing me to testnet coins. I didn't know valueless Bitcoins existed for the purpose of testing. My question to you or anyone in this forum is whether or not it is possible to be scammed with testnet coins.  Lets say I purchase 20 bitcoins from some fellow living in Alaska and I live in New York.  Is there any way possible the fellow in Alaska can scam me by sending me 20 testnet bitcoins and not real Bitcoins?  I'm asking this because I am a newbie and I would like to learn how to tell the difference from Testnet coins and Bitcoins and avoid possibly getting scammed.  Any comments welcome.
54  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Sweeping vs. Importing Newbie Question on: February 27, 2015, 03:05:28 AM

Sunnankar,
Thanks for your post. I saw the video and I hope you or anyone in this forum could confirm to me if I understand it correctly.

For example sake, let's say I have 10 bitcoins stored in a Coinbase.com wallet. From what I hear Coinbase.com controls the private key for all of the wallets they issue.

In short, if I use Armory's SWEEP feature I move both my 10 bitcoins and the Coinbase.com private keys to my Offline PC for cold storage.

However, if I use Armory's IMPORT feature I move only my 10 bitcoins and the Coinbase.com private keys remain behind with my Coinbase.com wallet.

Am I understanding it correctly?

I'm a newbie, but the way I see it if Coinbase.com remain with control of the private keys to my 10 bitcoins they can in the future illegally use my bitcoins if they were to get hacked.

Therefore, if I understand the SWEEP feature correctly, it's better to use SWEEP when transferring bitcoins from Coinbase, Blockchain.info, Circle, etc.  Because using the SWEEP feature assures Coinbase, Blockchain.info, Circle, etc do not remain in possession of private keys that can be used illegally if hacked.

Am I understanding it correctly?  Any comments welcome.  Thanks.

56  Bitcoin / Armory / Acceptable Relaunch Time 20 minutes after First Launch? on: February 24, 2015, 10:49:31 PM
Fellow Forum Members,

I fired up my online Armory and it took a good 50 minutes to work through the three phases below which I'm not questioning:

Initializing Bitcoin Engine
Build Databases
Scan Transaction History

However, what I am questioning is the following. Twenty minutes after my session that originally took 50 minutes to launch I decided to change my Armory mode from Standard mode to Expert mode to check it out. For the change to take place required I exit out of Armory and then relaunch Armory.

On my second relaunch (only 20 minutes later) Armory restarts from 000000 blocks and takes another 20 minutes to work through all three phases a second time. Is this normal? Also, is there a setting somewhere in Armory that will tell it to only work through the new blocks that have been added since last launch and not start from the beginning every time I fire it up?

I'm using the latest 93 version and also updated my Bitcoin Core to version 10. It's suppose to be faster but I don't see a drastic difference in startup time compared to version 0.92.3.  Any info will be greatly appreciated.

57  Bitcoin / Armory / Sweeping vs. Importing Newbie Question on: February 24, 2015, 03:07:24 AM
Fellow Forum Members,
I have my offline pc and online pc setup with Windows7 Armory and my online pc is now fully synced to the bitcoin network displaying a green checkmark. In short, I'm ready to start importing several online bitcoins I have on two wallets. One wallet is on blockchain.info and the other one is on coinbase.com.

However, I am confused on what is correct way to import from my hot online wallets to my offline pc for cold storage as it relates to either using the "Sweeping" Armory feature or the "Import" Armory feature. As a newbie I want to do things the right way and not the wrong way.  Should I rely on sweeping or importing my online wallets to my offline pc for cold storage?  What will sweeping offer that the importing does not offer as it relates to moving several bitcoins cold storage? Any info will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
58  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Armory Offline vs. Online Cold Storage Newbie Question on: February 17, 2015, 04:00:13 AM
You simply create a wallet and get an address on the offline machine and then send your bitcoins to that address (with a typical Bitcoin transaction).

As I mentioned in your other thread, you may want to familiarize yourself with the software involved (Armory and Bitcoin Core) before sending any bitcoins.

Holliday,
Thanks for your postings in both of my threads. And thanks for clarifying that the Receive a Bitcoin process needs to start on my Offline PC and not my Online PC. To clarify, I already have my Bitcoin Core setup and showing a green check mark so this means it's synced to the Bitcoin Blockchain. In addition, when I launch my Armory it has no problem syncing up with my Bitcoin Core client. In short, I'm ready to start transferring Bitcoins into my offline PC. However, what is still foggy is the watch only wallet. I understand the watch only wallet gets created in my offline PC and then somehow transferred to my Online PC. It tells me what my balance is on my Offline PC while I'm on my Online PC. But where I'm confused relates to the task of creating a wallet in your Offline PC and then deleting the wallet followed by rebuilding it. Is this task performed on my watch only wallet or a regular wallet?  Any comments welcomed.
59  Bitcoin / Mycelium / Moving Bitcoins from Mycelium To Armory Cold Storage on: February 16, 2015, 04:26:53 AM
Fellow Forum Members,
I have some Bitcoins in Mycelium I want to put into Armory Cold Storage in an offline PC.  Does anyone know of a good tutorial that can show me what is the best way to do this? Are there anything warnings I should know about before attempting to do this transfer?  Any comments will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
60  Bitcoin / Armory / Armory Offline vs. Online Cold Storage Newbie Question on: February 16, 2015, 04:14:32 AM
Fellow Forum Member,
I have a dedicated Armory Online PC and a dedicated Armory Offline PC and I hope someone can clarify for me the Armory Cold Storage work flow I need to follow. Mainly does exporting 1 bitcoin from my Blockchain.info wallet to convert to cold storage need to begin from my Offline Armory PC?  Or does it need to begin from within the Online Armory PC? Since my goal is to store my 1 bitcoin in my Offline Armory PC wallet in cold storage does this mean there is no need to setup an Online Armory PC wallet? I hope someone can clarify for me what are the correct wallets I need to setup for transferring my 1 bitcoin from my Blockchain.info wallet to cold storage. I'm confused as whether the Receive process need to begin from my Offline or Online Armory PC. If anyone can post what is the best Armory cold storage tutorial I could follow it will be much appreciated. Thanks.
