DASH has an advantage
Just on a point of trivia, Solar, you are no longer the world record holder, check your signature, you will have to surpass 10 million and 1 key pairs if you want the flowery blue ribbon back ![Grin](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/grin.gif) LOL, how long did that take? haha, glad you asked, 8 minutes startup time for that many key pairs is pretty impressive eh. ![Grin](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/grin.gif) ''Initial key pair creation time = 4 hr 53 mins, wallet size = 6.3 GB, RAM used = 2.4 GB, and startup time = 8 minutes''

Is the Tao ratio over the past year plotted on a chart somewhere? Not monthy readings but there is just enough to make a chart plot over the last 9 months, I'll try to make them more regular for better trend prediction. Need to update december readings, the biggest difference for bitcoin was when Gavin's memory hop tweaks were introduced in early march 2015, the tao ratio halved down to Tao =2.7 secs/hr but it didn't last long and went upto to 4.7 secs/hr by the end of march 2015, then reduced slightly with v11 and has been climbing ever since https://dashtalk.org/threads/dash-versus-bitcoin-versus-darkcoin-wallet-update-benchmark-times.4479/

Btw, talking of scaling and bitcoin wallet transaction usage with update times, I did a recent Tao ratio, to gauge where its heading and how the blockchain is updating with the seed peers.
3rd August 2015, bitcoin v.0.11.0
Tao sync ratio = 4.144 seconds per hour of wallet behind
22nd December 2015, bitcoin v.0.11.0
Tao sync ratio = 6.625 seconds per hour of wallet behind
Conclusion
Bitcoin is now updating 59.87% slower than it was only 5 months before. This is to be expected as the number of transactions has more than doubled but does not bode well for the future as user takeup increases. It may be pointed out that updating maxes out the bandwidth and memory of fairly high spec machines as well.

Happy New Year Guys I'm creating an infographic and would like somebody to read over the following and tell me if it's accurate. Thank you
Bitcoin can be received instantly, but until transactions are confirmed by the network they can be easily double spent. This means somebody can send Bitcoin to a retailer they are paying and at the same time send those same bitcoins to themselves.
By the time the retailer realises they have not been paid (at least 10 minutes later), the shopper has gone. This is why you should never trust a zero confirmed Bitcoin transaction and it's also why Bitcoin will never be used (without a centralised third party insurer) like cash at offline retailers, vending machines, train stations, taxis, Gas Stations, cinema's and anywhere else you have instant, secure validated transactions. DASH has solved this major flaw in Bitcoin...
Don't retailers allow for the odd loss with double spending on zero confirm as a necessary evil, the kicker is that any large transactions need 1 confirmation at least, so small transactions that incur relatively high charges/user time and bloat the blockchain will be way laid due to the inevitable higher fees that must be introduced in order to counter the lack of scalability, after all when the memory pool has 20,000 unconfirms waiting to go into a block, do you really want to wait until tomorrow morning to get 1 confirmation? The point also is that instantX is not random, it is instantly locked where as block entry into a bitcoin block is unpredictable to say the least, is that really how businesses can work?

Rumor is Dash price is being held hostage by Vern. Price seems alot lower at Cryptsy. Is this true? A shame if it is. Dash should be alot higher given recent events.
It's not like people will be rushing with their BTCs to buy cheap coins at cryptsy. I warned someone that I know personally, hes left hundreds of Dash at Cryptsy and didn't act, can't say I didn't try, looking less promising everyday, funny thing is the volume is still pretty high, if you believe that of course.

OK, I'll say it, as no one else seems to want to... It's painfully obvious now that we were victims of a P&D. Not that it matters long term, but still frustrating. We still have a long way to go. ![Smiley](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/smiley.gif) When I see price increasing I always they to myself : why I didn't buy more?? lol So when the price decline again, I just buy more. Words to live by! buy on a down trend... sell on a up trend... or just panic and sell whenever you get scared haha. I think the move up was a long time coming... it just needs healthy corrections to consolidate and find a new base. It seems to be moving up again now. With a total of half a million dollars of trade in 24 hours, with high volume even on exchanges (Indonesia) that normally have almost zero action. Doesn't look like a pump and dump to me, it more looks like someone seriously wanted to hoover up all the available Dash on any exchange they could find and weren't bothered about paying a little extra in the process. The coke machine is a brilliant idea guys, 2016 is going to be the best year yet, with so much potential, interesting times, its an honour to be part of all this even in a small way :-) Wishing you all a very Happy and Healthy New Year ![Grin](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/grin.gif)

Ever wondered why all those trades on huobi are for the same amount ? ![Wink](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/wink.gif) No. What are they ? Bots ? Well there are no fees for trading, how about nulling all the trades of the same value and seeing whats left, thats more likely the more realistic trade.

With possible end of year settlements and the xmas/NYE mood subsiding, how do you see for the next leg of bitcoin price movement (in the short term) ? (way I see it, we're ready for another step down, market is overvalued, sentiment diminishing, for now)
As far as the market goes technically, I think it depends a lot on whether the 1-week chart breaks its upward trend or not. It can easily afford this current retrace but if it drops back below about 350 then the rally is probably dead as far as I can see and it will require something major to re-ignite such as the ETF coming online or something. Dash above $2.70 in every exchange but Cryptsy where it is reported at $2.49. Clearly no one wants to take advantage of that arbitrage opportunity and risk getting trapped inside their exchange. I wonder how long this situation can last? And more importantly where is the Dash Cryptsy volume coming from if no one is trading there? Any ideas? ![](https://ip.bitcointalk.org/?u=https%3A%2F%2Fi.imgur.com%2FXP60v6p.png&t=663&c=saFxTa37TBkSiQ) I took my meager funds out of Cryptsy via doge because it worked and was quick , it cost me 20%. look at the arbitrage of the other major alt coins compared with any exchange, it is unnatural, this is what everyone is doing to escape hence the skewed price. http://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/dogecoin/#marketsOne thing can guarantee, none of these users will ever return to Cryptsy, this exchange is unrecoverable in my opinion. Plus they lost the key bitcoin/$ market - its tiny now, and I suspect what little volume there is, is probably fake volume. (I saw bittrex dash volume overtake cryptsy, so I don't believe this 8k per day figure) Also because CEX is stopping dash/fiat, Dash volume is growing on livecoin, which has $ and euro markets, plus bittrex has overtaken Cryptsy for purely crypto with a number of alts for extra choice. Things moves on and they will not go back to how it was, Cryptsy could have been a leader but it has blown it. This will end a lot of clone coins in the process, as many are only listed on Cryptsy as a major exchange.

...I waited for someone to post the contrary adversarial view but nobody did. After a while I got sick of waiting so decided to post it myself in theatrical mode - along with the subsequent rebutal. I thought I was pretty authentic ![Wink](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/wink.gif) The art of good war fare is understanding the enemy, and you Tok, can see and empathize with both sides of the argument where as many only see from their own blinkered narrow minded view. “If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink. Thank you so much ![Cheesy](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/cheesy.gif) Merry Xmas everyone! Happy Christmas to over there from across the pond https://youtu.be/QQRpygqYLBA(one time, I found a christmas tree that had blown over 1 in the middle of a forest during a walk, so I decided to drag it all the way back to car which was a bit of a distance. Overlooked the fact that it was too big to fit in, I had to seriously jam it in, with the top pointing out of the window and the seats down, lol)

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all my Dash peeps! Tao
Aww, are those yours? They're beautiful children ![Smiley](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/smiley.gif) Merry Christmas Eve! We celebrate both Christmas Eve and Day. When my mother was young, the kids would go to church, and when they came home, the christmas tree would be magically in the house, all decorated with candles glowing everywhere, and presents. They would open them then, not in the morning ![Tongue](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/tongue.gif) And the most memorable presents were the oranges ![Smiley](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/smiley.gif) Frankly, it sounds like way to much to do over the hour or two the kids are at church, LOL. Anyway, yah, Christmas prep has been keeping me from my duties here... I still need to do some baking and a bit more running around. So in case I'm not around again; Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night, Ms. Clause ;P Yes and a BIG merry Christmas and happy new year to all the core team, peripheral helper bods, vagabonds (me, lol) and any other stray cats and believers that like to come along once in a while, say hello and help out, good luck to you all :-) Party party time now, byzzz ![Grin](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/grin.gif)

With RBF, however, when a double-spend occurs, the one with the highest fee is the one confirmed. Thus the first seen transaction is somewhat meaningless.''
So RBF is basically a queue-jumping technology ? looks like it, so you can queue jump your own transaction using a higher fee even though its a younger transaction. Sounds messy, what happened to block confirmations and POW, like Eric Voorhees says is it even necessary?
|
|
|
Out of curiosity, how does RBF "murder" 0-conf transactions ?
Eric Voorhees knows a thing or two, https://shapeshift.io/site/blog/2015/12/01/note-ceo-erik-voorhees-appeal-zero-conf'' This means that if zero-conf is effectively destroyed – by RBF or any other mechanism in the future – that segment of business will shrink or go away. We can debate how big that segment is, but be careful with your assumptions. More important than any single business today, is the “unseen” business which will never happen tomorrow, because zero-conf was destroyed – nobody being permitted, ever again, to take on the risk of this useful tool. '' Some background on RBF '' RBF is a modification to Bitcoin confirmation handling, in which transactions currently in the mempool (ie – not yet confirmed) can be replaced by a subsequent double-spend transaction if that 2nd transaction has a higher fee. Put simply, before RBF, if you double-spent two transactions, miners would usually ignore the second one, because they operate on a “first seen” principle. Thus the first seen transaction is “probably going to confirm.” With RBF, however, when a double-spend occurs, the one with the highest fee is the one confirmed. Thus the first seen transaction is somewhat meaningless.''

Nice ! thats what i call centralised ![Wink](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/wink.gif) More precisely, semi-centralized, So if semi-centralized is 37 countries, how many does it take to be fully decentralized ? ''The VC Dash (formerly Darkcoin) has a hybrid structure where anonymity is guaranteed by a semi-centralized architecture''~~Rand Corporation~~

geezzz. what a pain dealing with Bitcoin Wallet. How is that going to be consumer friendly if you have to down load the blockchain?!? So I'm assuming you can have a BTC wallet with out having to download the blockchain? I've had a mobile wallet ...but I'm certain that doesn't download that pig of a blockchain....
Multibit SPV wallet but its horrible to use in my opinion, if bitcoin ever forks again(like that mining episode a few months ago) it can easily step on the wrong chain because only about last 4 blocks are validated.
