41  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BFL update-29 March 2013 on: March 29, 2013, 05:40:52 AM
When they say purchased hash rate, do they mean 40 or 60? If memory serves me correctly they were originally advertised to deliver 40 GH, then upped to 60 GH when competition arose.

None of this surprises me.

I'm guessing it's tied to the unit purchased.
ie: Jalepeno is the 4.5GH
Little SC (30)
Single SC (60)
MiniRig SC (1200)

Oops, I should have been more specific. In the very beginning, the Single SC's were advertised as 40 GH. They then increased it.

I am also interested in this. I have not yet reached out to them, but this seems like a more reasonable route than designing from scratch. Perhaps a collaborative effort would be worthwhile. Either splitting of chip allotments or sharing of design tasks.
44  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: The latest Avalon announcement in China(Translated). Batch #3, price and more. on: March 25, 2013, 09:09:39 AM
So is there a limit on quantity this time around?

Also, I think I saw the price will be 75 btc. Will that include 4 modules, or is there a different price for those?

Will that include PSU and shipping?
45  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: The latest Avalon announcement in China(Translated). Batch #3, price and more. on: March 22, 2013, 09:08:27 PM
i havent seen these 'wild downward swings'...

all ive seen is a few solid jumps immediately after mainstream news stories.

were you here 2 years ago? even last year?

https://blockchain.info/charts/market-price

see that? that's a bubble in progress.

...and looks like it might have just popped. $65.88 and dropping.
46  Bitcoin / Hardware / Avalon Batch 3 - Will You Order? on: March 21, 2013, 07:48:03 AM
Seems there's a lot of mixed thoughts on the price, so in the interest of community understanding I thought I'd create a simple poll for people to get a sense of what everyone's collective thoughts are on the matter.
47  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Luke Jr. @ BFL on: March 21, 2013, 02:37:01 AM
I sorta gave up following bfl... But the post above did not help in the least.  am i wrong to guess they still have not ran a test unit that can actually hash yet?

No, you're not wrong.  They're hoping to have things sorted out next week.

Quote
But I digress... as I said in the shoutbox, we think we've found the problem with the test rig and the ASIC team has managed to get the chips spinning with some hand modifications to the test rig and some of the engines were even running at 500 MHz. They are going to finish diagnosing and then get new hardware for the test rig, so we should have something demonstrable by early to mid next week. Should be pretty smooth sailing after that.

The chances of them shipping before April seem extremely remote given that update.

Even though I have some BFL gear on order, I'd certainly hope they don't ship before April. If they did, it'd probably mean the testing won't be very thorough. Even in the IT industry, 1 week to test a complex piece of software after it's presumed to be final is very aggressive. We're talking hardware here, not just software. How does it behave with different mining software? How does it behave under higher thermal conditions? Humidity conditions? What are the voltage variance operating limits? Is it prone to any RF interference? I could come up with a million test cases but you all get the idea.

Actually, as much as I want it, I'll be disappointed if they ship it before the end of the month. Between the eternal BFL date-slips and the astronomical Avalon batch 3 price, maybe the market is begging for another contender to enter the ring.
48  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: I am planning to buy Avalon batch 3..is batch 3 invitations only? on: March 20, 2013, 07:35:00 AM
I am doubtful on the invitations, it may be a way to reserve your spot so we don't create another DDoS attack on their servers.  Yifu said a main stated goal was to secure the network by getting as many units into as many hands as possible.  That is a reason for the 3 unit limit on this last batch (yes, I know some people got around this).

There was a 3 unit limit on batch 2 or will be on batch 3? Do you have a link to more info on this?

On batch #2 it was 3.  It has not been announced for Batch 3.

Interesting. I had ordered pretty early that day and did not encounter any limit or message stating such. A friend of mine also had ordered more than 3 later in the day and had no problems either. Was this something that happened at a later point in the day after the payment processor issues, etc?

Hey Seattle people, there is a bitcoin meetup in Seattle on March 13th at 7 PM (tomorrow)!

51  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon batch#2 Re-open 2/18 on: February 18, 2013, 02:21:45 PM
Well, I just ordered 4 units, but it didn't go smoothly so far.

I created an account on Avalon's page, entered all my details, added 4 units to the cart and then headed to check-out.

Once there, the timer started counting down. I checked out as a guest (no walletbit account).

The timer continued counting down regardless, even after I sent the coins. The clock hit zero, returned me to the Avalon cart, and a message at the top said "Your order was cancelled."

Nice. I'm going to be pissed if I just lost 227 bitcoins into the void.

For the record, I was order #1561.

Anyone else have this experience?

Is it just me, or do personal hash rate estimates on the pool seem kind of low/fluctuating right now?

BTW, awesome pool DoubleC, thanks!

Payment was held by PayPal fraud team because of our "high number of transaction in prior 24 hours".   I apologize for the delay.  PayPal sent the only notification by phone which is why I missed it.  Stupidly their payment notification system shows your payment as paid Huh  I confirmed the tx and it should post to your account within 10 minutes.

No problem. Glad it freed up a couple others as well. I never doubted you guys for a moment. I just wanted the forum to be aware that there might have been some PayPal issues. I'm going to edit my earlier post as well so that others who read it don't have any doubts about your service.

You guys are great!
54  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: FastCash4Bitcoins Support Thread (Update: bank funds added) on: August 06, 2012, 02:34:08 AM
TwinTurbo PM sent.  This is the first we have heard of a non-payment.

Hopefully just a PayPal issue. I've high confidence in your service and haven't had a problem yet. Once again, you guys prove to be top-notch in staying on top of support! My bet is on PayPal being the issue.
55  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: FastCash4Bitcoins Support Thread (Update: bank funds added) on: August 06, 2012, 01:39:50 AM
Anyone happen to know roughly how long it takes for PayPal to show funds in your account after FastCash has finished payment? My transaction completed hours ago, but PayPal still shows a zero balance. To note: I've been a verified business member on PayPal for years.

I thought I should post a follow-up; I just called PayPal and they say that no transactions have entered my account today, nor are there any pending. The amount was close to $1,000. So, I am not sure if the problem is on the FastCash end or the PayPal end, but you should proceed with caution if you are using this payout method. I will post a follow up to this post and explanation as soon as the issue has been resolved.

Edit: Just so there's no confusion, this was a precautionary hold by PayPal. The volume of transactions by Tangible Cryptography triggered the fraud team's system to halt payments. This yet again proves that FastCash is a top-notch service deemed worthy by many customers! Smiley

Typical PayPal. :p

I would just like to point out that Tangible Cryptography / FastCash4Bitcoins has continued to impress me with their fast turn-around on technical support. Earlier today I had some transaction issues which were not the fault of the website, but my bitcoin client instead. Tangible quickly returned my call, answered all my questions and addressed all my concerns.

Tangible Cryptography; You guys are fantastic!
58  Economy / Services / Re: GPUMAX | The Bitcoin Mining Marketplace on: August 04, 2012, 10:52:46 AM
I had 30+ GH/s on GPUMax and was one of the people who got swept up in the automatic ban of two or more IPs from one user. I have 3 separate labs (due to heat) that happen to each have their own independent net connections, but all using the same ISP.

Is there any hope in restoring an account after getting banned? By the time I saw the warning in the forum it was too late for me to act upon it. An email warning would have been nice.  Sad
59  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Three Dead 5850s At Once? on: July 21, 2012, 09:26:07 AM
What specific model of power supply?

The power supply is: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817194093&Tpk=lepa%20850w

This power supply works well for powering four 5870s in several of my other machines, but in that case I used PCI-E splitters.

Software is irrelevant, the machine never even made it to boot. Something shorted somewhere along the way. This was in an MSI 890FXA-GD70 board. The motherboard was unaffected, as it powers 4 other cards today without issue (not using Molex this time).
60  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Three Dead 5850s At Once? on: July 21, 2012, 08:05:10 AM
So I hooked up 4 HD 5850s to a 850W power supply, but was short on PCI-E connectors. To make up the difference I used two molex to PCI-E adapters and ran them to two different cards. I ran out of PCI-E splitters. These adapters had two molex connectors each into one PCI-E. I hooked up both of them for each adapter.

I turned on the machine and nothing came on. I believe the fans spun, but no post. One card out of the 3 seemed to survive whatever it was that happened to these cards. The cards are Visiontek reference series and I don't have the invoice for warranty, they're expired. Is it possible that something more simple happened to them, such as the BIOS got wiped out or something by some power protection mechanism?

I'd love to recover these cards if possible. Any thoughts on what might have happened/how I can possibly diagnose them via DOS utilities or something?

Thanks!
