I know the blockchain cant be hacked ,but what did they say about the actual security of the exchange?

No details about their exchange.

43  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BurtW arrested on: January 27, 2015, 02:22:24 AM
Also, hes known to be involved in the Ponzi run by Pirate. At the time, he thought bitcoin was just funny monopoly money. He also knew full well its a ponzi (who wouldnt) but he still run a passthrough. That alone would make me never trust him.

I'm very clear about ethics. Thats why i dont even support signature campaign on this forums because most of them are scamming businesses. Making merely 0.1 a month to help the scammers? fuck no
44  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BurtW arrested on: January 27, 2015, 02:13:16 AM
I'm a bit perplexed.

I thought bitcoin ownership and conversion is perfectly legal in the U.S.  Or is it a state-by-state basis?

Or perhaps he was just doing this unreported and did not pay a single penny of tax on it? If so, then I have no sympathy for him, that's clearly breaking the law.

Ofcourse thats not a whole story. Seriously think hes only buying and selling for his own investment? Thats what he will use for defense. FEDs might have more than that.
45  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BurtW arrested on: January 27, 2015, 02:10:57 AM
according to his website that is linked to this article they arrested him in his home, 35 federal agents searched his house, seized an unspecific amount of money, and seized their computers.

I am curious to see the search/arrest warrants for him and what they claim exactly he was doing. This sounds like a pretty big response to just selling Bitcoin to a police officer who said they were going to use the money to buy drugs.

Damn, 35 agents is a lot! but they do usually send excessive numbers for an arrest, usually 9 or 10. I guess they needed 25 extra forensics guys to deal with the computer media!

A ridiculous number? Yes and no. That is what its all about, keeping large numbers of people happily employed and well paid: an overstaffed organization. High taxes, almost no checks and balances and a gigantic number of arbitrary laws make it possible.

http://www.burtw.com/home.html

Shocked Shocked Shocked A mixture between Stalinism and Gotham City, if you ask me, the grotesque exaggeration of it will hopefully gather the attention of the court.

Of course there is  a difference between what the feds want and what they get; so far this is only allegations.

Now the really good question is, what would have happened if the agents would not have suggested that they use funds associated with criminal activity? That is the definition of money laundering and pretty much illegal anywhere on the planet.

The fascism starts where private individuals are banned from trading goods and services: “The federal prosecutor believes a person must have a money transmittal license to buy and sell Bitcoins for individual investment.”

I doubt that is the truth. Ofcourse when you're asking for donations, you will make it sounds like you've done nothing wrong.

I will keep my eyes on this case. If what was said is truth, any lawyer worth his bar exam can defend this and counter sue for damages.

48  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Winklevoss Twins Aim to Take Bitcoin Mainstream With a Regulated Exchange on: January 26, 2015, 06:57:34 PM
I don't know how they are going to make it regulated in a way. Or in a way, does bitcoin need to be regulated in the first place? Even if they have managed to do that, what impact would it bring especially when you already have tons of other bitcoin exchangers around.

Now that someone with money stands to gain more in the absence of competition, expect that law enforcement against all traders not in complete compliance will start ratcheting up.

Remember, their goal is a monopoly.  They will do what it takes to eliminate the competition, especially if it is as easy as  subverting US law enforcement with bribes.

If you think the law enforcement doesn't take bribes, just have a look at the 'massage' and 'escort' sections of the phone book in any city where prostitution is illegal.  What is obvious to you is also obvious to the police, but they aren't acting.  Why in the world not?  Could it possibly be because someone pays them off?

And if someone else pays them for getting competition eliminated from business, expect that it will happen.

Cryddit.

That makes no sense at all. Even if they magically paid off law enforcement in every jurisdiction to eliminate the noncompliant competition they still wouldn't be able to maintain a monopoly for long if there was a profit in it. New money will enter the chase for profit. It's also still possible for anyone to use any exchange worldwide. I've had very good luck with BTCe so they won't be seeing any of my funds. I'm going to completely pass on the services of any U.S. exchange from now on.

Does BTCe require any form of verification? I dont trust an entity that keeps my info while remain pseudonymous
49  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Winklevoss Twins Aim to Take Bitcoin Mainstream With a Regulated Exchange on: January 26, 2015, 06:49:28 PM
My concern with this is that they start rigging the price just like they do in forex.

oh please, dont be stupid now. Those Forex are nothing but fraud, you're not actually trading shit, rather tokens ...

This will be really good when it's finally up. I believe it will help the overall bitcoin price.

BUT Bitcoin was made with other AIM, you hypocrites (according to the BTC hard core).

Bitcoin was made for freedom, right? All over you can read " Bitcoin is anonymity, Bitcoin is not like a bank, Bitcoin bla bla"

Are not these your beliefs? Are you not libertarian anymore? Smiley

If so, why are you excited about a REGULATED market? Why would someone use ANOTHER regulated market ?

There is a VERY big one outside of Bitcoin. You can use it right now.
There are a lot of Forex, Stock markets, ALL OF THEM ARE ALREADY REGULATED.

A regulated market means ALL the papers that a bank requires you now. Nothing more, nothing less.

you will be reported to IRS(or similar tax authorities, you will be reported for so called suspicious transactions, etc) .

REGULATED = CENTRALIZED  and everywhere i see on this forum, it is written:"we want DE-centralized services "

Why do you still use Bitcoin if you want all of these, you hypocrites ?

WTF are you talking about? Exchanges are for exchanging fiat. We have wallets for exchanging bitcoins. The only wallets for fiat are in your purse, you silly goose.

How will you fund or cash out BTC, Mr. SmartAss? Smiley Will you make a magic for that? You will need an exchanger, grandpa

You will tell me the old story now: that you use BTC for buying anything you want and you don't need cash, you hypocrite ! lol

Well, I have a bad news for you, grandpa. BTC is not used for that. BTC is used for speculation and black market.

Please stay away of drugs for a while.
What do you mean? Why would anyone do such a stupid thing? Go back to your piggybank, Junior.

Can you just put him on ignore? His intelligence has been shown rather low from all his posts. We dont need to waste bandwidth on him.

54  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BurtW arrested on: January 26, 2015, 01:31:48 PM

Its probably an isolated case. BurtW might be targeted after investigation of Pirate. Hes also selling and buying large amount of BTC with cash.

Its hard to even speculate because lack of details.
55  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What happens to your Bitcoin should you suddenly die? on: January 26, 2015, 12:36:55 PM
Maybe a future invention? Conditioned multi-sig?
I think, you mean smart contracts. They are already working on it Wink
e.g. https://www.ethereum.org/

lol thats not doing anything.
56  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What happens to your Bitcoin should you suddenly die? on: January 26, 2015, 12:26:21 PM
Just remember:
You could easily be hit by a truck today: No time to tell anybody about your secret stash of Bitcoin stamped on a piece of metal buried in your garden. No time to tell anybody the password to your bip38-encrypted paper wallet.

Where it is nice, that your Bitcoin are safe from the government and banks, it would be really sad, should you suddenly die and the Bitcoin are just lost, instead of supporting your own children.

So, I am less interested in theoretical ways to solve that problem, but more if somebody here actually did something to solve it.

This question has been asked way to often.

Here is my answer: Satoshi make sure blockchain will scoop all your bitcoins when you're dead and distribute them to your children. Just tell your children to create a wallet with a secret key. Read the source code and you will understand.
57  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Total and unconditional end of the era of mining. on: January 26, 2015, 12:23:16 PM

Proof of stake mining is also sometimes called mining.
If there is a particular algorithm you like (there are several out there) let us know and we could have a better conversation.

Mining is associated with expenditure of resources. You mines gold, having spent a portion of your labor.

Why it's called mining. In POS you do not spend anything.

Wow you missed his point completely, what a retard.

I guess you just learned about POS huh? Keep reading , you might learn a thing or two. I've been here long enough to see noobs like you come and argue as if they found a "flaw".

I perfectly understood. Сonsensus  does not necessary to spend electricity. That's what I'm talking about.

But you just don't pleasing prospects. So you call me retard.
58  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Total and unconditional end of the era of mining. on: January 26, 2015, 04:40:43 AM

Public record blockchain can be done on a wikipedia site and the community would reach a consensus too. I call it Proof of Edit...

Each method has it's own pros and cons.

We are not talking about Wikipedia, we are talking about сryptocurrency.

Wow you missed his point completely, what a retard.
59  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: So miners, are you selling your mined btc as soon as you get them? on: January 26, 2015, 04:37:11 AM
Holding what coins I have and  I no longer mine BTC due to the ever growing Diff and massive spikes. Id rather mine alt coins as they come out mine for a few days or a week or so and then switch off and then take the coins to exchanges and trade them up and build a nice stash of them along with making some profit on the top.

You're a legendary! You must be rich! please send me some coins bro .....
